Was super busted, and most decks would use cards to make surfer go off multiple times. So would end up being 9+ power to all three costs most games.

Yeah Surfer has to be on this list. It even had cross over with Zabu decks. Brood and Surfer on the final turn was a lane winner. Combine that with zabu and you had a 2 cost wong and Surfer combo for +6 on all 3 drops.

Thanks for the history, Nina. I started playing the game in late October 2022, and it’s funny to think how much things have changed since then. The meta constantly being retuned and rebalanced is one of the things that keep this game fresh even if it is frustrating sometimes.

Vanila surfer was the powerhouse. Not doing any cheeky stuff, just putting crazy numbers everywhere, even worse than pre nerf Elsa

Where is Alioth, that's card is absolutely broken. Im remember a month ago when alioth appear in spotlight cache and always win the match😅

Great video Nina! As a new player, I was always interested in how some of the cards were used to be when people mentioned they were busted. Couldn't find any source to show how card used to be, there were some video but weren't edited very well or clear, your editing and explanation are super clear, thank you.

this so true. I see people talk about how "old" cards used to be busted but I wasn't playing then this video truly showcased the power.

Zabu season was wilddddd. It was my most played season, hitting a rank ~140 (pre leader board system)--double spider-man's left and right!

I really enjoy this kind of video recording the history of cards. After watching, I feel like old spider man should be on the list for his unfair ability.

Wow, hearing all the history of marvel snap broken cards helps me realize why we still have controversial cards to this day. It really feels like the devs aren't the best at making balanced cards. I am so glad I was not around during the LeechLeader and Galactus days and boy I was so close to quitting for good when Alioth was released. Idk what SD is doing but I really hope they get better at making fun and fair cards that aren't so ass-broken.

Unfortunately broken cards help them make money, pretty sure it’s done intentionally. Like I remember Zabu was so busted and then like a year later they released loki…

devs should make fun cards at first, and balance should come as an issue later. I would never play marvel snap if my first experience with the game didn't include crazyness like the old galactus, mr negative, storm and prof x, heimdall, etc. Some "fair" metas were pretty unpopular also, like when patriot was a top deck, or the first high evo decks, or sera control, etc.

I remember the day I realized that Aero was busted. I felt like I had unlocked a whole new way to play the game, it was magical!

Agree with 1st place. Zabu was my main reason why I've left a game for almost a year.

Zabu was indeed the most broken. I felt very OP when he was still untouched.

I've been waiting on a video like this for a while. Always wanted to hear the lore of Marvel Snap's broken cards that got nerfed

Beta Hellcow is definitely a contender for most broken card!

One hell of a summary! I think I agree with you on all the choices, maybe not necessarily on the order, but yeah, the list is spot-on :)

What broke my will to play this game is how rare the resources are, and how much all the best cards are hidden behind a paywall.

Aero and Leader, most definitely leader was broken!! Aero was OP! Crap, I forgot about that Spiderman ability. Him and absorbing man!

Ive only been playing the game about 3 weeks now and it's crazy how much this game has changed over the years. I'm so glad I didn't live through these. Some of them took 5-6 months to fix? That's wild!!! The meta feels somewhat balanced now, but I haven't reached infinite yet, Ive been stuck in 92+/- for the pass 2 days.

I almost stopped playing the game when Silver Surfer was unbeatable and then Zabu was unbeatable and then the final straw with Spiderman/Absorbing man making it so you just were not allowed to play the game after turn 5 😂

When you think about it having no way to stop an enemy Galactus aside from debrii or goblins is INSANE

who remembers OG Zabu cutting 2 energy cost of 4 energy cards and Spidey locked two lanes on turn 5 😂😂😂😂😂

Love you Nina. It didn’t help that a lot of these cards took months to get nerfed, but it feels like second dinner is much faster with changes in recent months

OG Okoye and Nakia were my favorite OP cards.

I happened to get Darkhawk the same day Zabu came out and it was nuts how strong that was. The first couple days were super fun but then I had stop 😂 too repetitive

Wow you actually described the cards and put them on the screen when you did it! Good for you. I could not believe it when Alex and Cozy did this exact same video and just acted like we all should remember what the old cards were like.

@@ninaisnoob oh they did bits about the best and worst cards ever in different snap chats two weeks ago. in the one with the best cards they actually do include the old versions of cards, so i'll correct myself there, but in the one where they do the worst cards ever, they just threw the current iteration of the card on screen while talking vaguely about what the cards were like, which was frustrating :P All that's to say, thanks for the great video as usual!

I love aero back then. Better without animation sliding all opponent cards kinda satisfying. I still remember one of my favorite her old gameplay is combination quake+kingpin tower+aero. I suprised quake works with kingpin tower and destroy all opponent cards then next turn play aero to destroy opponent cards again.😅.

A fun trip though Snap, but somehow managed to omit Alioth.

Og zabu and sufer… they were just some of the funnest periods of SNAP, and this is around when I actually got good. And now, I’m top 2k infinite.

Original nova that was a 1/2 that gave +2 to whole board was the most broken thing I've seen

The deathwave deck was insane i missed it so much

Original surfer not being on this list was criminal. he had a winning line up/interaction with over 75% of decks at the time of his nerf, only card that rivaled him was pre-nerf zabu, and it was those 2 decks that held back the thanos and shuri meta that followed, since both had bad lineups against them

It was called baero because aero death she hulk and wave were the top in and they were consider baes

I joined the game during the Zabu season. Luckily, he was at his 2/2 state for a good while by the time I made it to pool 3, so this ridiculous meta was already in the rear view mirror by the time I was properly established in the game. As for busted cards, I’d argue Shang-Chi. He’s consistently been the single best card in the game for the longest time, as if your opponent has a high power card on board (necessary to win the game), he is/was a 4/12 or 4/13 at the least. Even then, everyone was surprised to see him nerfed, as his effect is just so key to the meta’s health that the community is perfectly fine with him being so powerful; he needs to be. Oh and also, obligatory request to do the WORST 10 cards in the game’s history.

Agree with zabu being No.1, bit surprised surfer and kitty didn't get in the list. the original +3 power surfer was super strong and it worked great with other combo cards like wong and mr.negative, kitty not only was a over powered card, but also literally broke the game.

I hope there are game mode where every cards are at their peak

This made me realized I missed 9 whole seasons before I first heard of the game in February 2023, I don't think I've gone a day without playing since.

Those spider webs brought back so kany traumatic memories 😅

i had no idea, i didnt start playing this until Maybe September 2023 lol, actually i remember downloading the game and the Loki season event had like 2 days left. I turned off the game music cause that Loki music was so annoying lol

Zabu was my first pass deck😂 it was fun

I got Shuri and Leader the moment they were nerfed. I was so passed off

I started a little bit before Loki was released so it was great learning what has happened previously. But I disagree on your Loki's meta estimation. As a new player it was great to have access to cards I couldn't play until months later. I still enjoy Loki even if I have most of the cards now.

Love seeing the history of the cards. As a new ish player, seeing the old gameplay with the slightly younger content creators is cute lol. Also, saw quite a few were in like mobile format, was it originally not widescreen format?

I remember back then when I see my oponent have more than 12 card, I immediately retreat because I hate Thanos leech meta

Crazy to see and remember how broken some cards were haha, i survived through all the toxic Meta`s and i`m infinite each month since last March. I`m a day 1 player btw, almost hit 10k collection level. The game was becoming boring for me, especially after the Kitty Pryde and Hit Monkey changes back in the summer, i had so much fun with the OG Bounce Kitty decks, so it was a bummer when Second Dinner started bombarding that deck with nerfs. Well, and then Loki came out, and i started enjoying the game a lot more, now i`m back to daily playing, and i enjoy it when i hit infinite and i can mess around with whatever deck i want.

Midway through the vid makes me miss BAERO Death Wave

That leech was a kill joy.

High Evo and pre-nerf Loki are the 2 cards I will automatically retreat against because I dont have time for that shit

They take a lot of effort to make so it’ll all depend on how well this video does. It was 10x the effort of a normal deck video but will it get 10x the views? I’ll probably still make videos like these even if it doesn’t get too many views though because they’re fun to do, just not too often.
