I think it might be of some benefit for the folks at the MLR to create some kind of exchange system, where American High School kids could visit a high profile South African rugby school for a year. The list is actually a long one because South African high school rugby is essentially a professional thing now, so you could really take your pick there. Even if they are not good enough to play for any of the age group "A" Teams, just being in that system and environment will probably be of tremendous value. The same would apply for going to a New Zealand high school for a year, because their school system also fantastic, probably better. I am guessing you are already at a university level now, so that could also be an option, just to spend one "rugby year" at a South African university, and try to compete in the Varsity Cup or Varsity Shield. If you can't get into a team, just be a part of the system and learn as much as you can.

While agree with you about the basic point, athleticism alone won't be enough for world domination of Rugby union. Does anyone think the U.S failed to qualfiy for this world cup because they lacked the athleticism of the Chilean team? Until the U.S is able to breed rugby palyers from an early age so they hava an instinctual feel for the game, at least in the main decision making positions, they'll never dominate the sport. Like all games of continuity 'footballing' ability, particualrly across the team, counts for a lot.

I played alongside David Hodges, the man was a true professional at a time where the game had just turned professional. His attention to detail, his work ethic, his determination on the field and in the gym, amazing guy. I genuinely believe that once rugby becomes a more recognised sport in America, they could be unstoppable.

They all have the physical prowess it’s giving them the mind set, as kiwis we are blessed to have both league and union as does England Wales Scotland France sth Africa ,Argentina etc, all the rugby nations, in those games there have been many stand out players that are emulated for their Game play, Step/Jukeing, Handling of the ball etc, show these guys the likes of the Dan Carter’s, Benji Marshal ,the George Greegans, the cliffy Lyons and Geoff Tooveys the , Stacy Jones’s, 3 of these guys mentioned are some of the smallest players in Rugby and Rugby League but are considered some of the Greatest Playmakers and the most Respected for their Leadership , Gameplay and Direction ,sometimes muscles give way to Cunning and smarts🤙Salute and good luck to all those Men🇳🇿

From France, shout out to the hyped up americans when it comes to, to me, the best tam sport in the world that is rugby. You're coming a long way and still have a huge mountain to climb but through patience and commitment, you'll get one day in contention with the best teams in the world. The passion for this sport is massive in the traditional countries, happy you're finding your passion as well. No offence to US Football, but Rugby is way above in terms of culture, skillset and team spirit. In France we determine our rugby with Dazzlingness, French Flair and Gregary instinct. Finally, it's a pure "good persons" sport. You won't come accross selfish people in this game.

The US is the sleeping giant of Rugby. The player pool is potentially enormous. 2022 we've seen the greatest competition at the International level. The great sides are playing running rugby, where you see the ball sing. France, Ireland, Argentina, New Zealand are out the front. Interesting to watch good skills and commitment. Only criticism, ball in two hands always. Timmy Horan's most common feedback. It always puts the opposition in two minds and gives the ball carrier all options in maintaining possession. As soon as you see an opponent tuck the ball under his arm he's not looking to pass. Shifting the ball to then be able to pass is lower percentage than ball in two hands. Passing the best pass to a team mate is the absolute core skill in maintaining possession. Never pass to a team mate in a worse position than you. You cannot win a game of rugby without the ball. Guys like Michael Lynagh, Johnny Wilkinson, Dan Carter et al all had ''soft'' hands ie it just flowed on regardless of how poor the pass to them was. It's a skill that everyone can practise and perfect.

yeh there is no slow in the NFL, if you're slow you don't make the field. Football is a fast twitch sport, need to be able to be fast and explosive regardless of position for 5-10 secs each play. Challenge for former US football players is converting their bodies from playing a largely anaerobic sport to more of an aerobic sport as rugby has you running constantly.

Chile have their whole squad playing for the same regional team and have played 4x as many games as the US since Covid. The US have to bring players together from all over the US, plus European professionals and turn them into an international team with minimal preparation time. The Eagles are lucky to train together for a week in a whole year. Chile are together 300+ days a year. That's the challenge.
