    The problem is you generally don't have an air army even if you go stargate for oracles early game. If you switch to carriers without upgrades against a zerg with upgraded hydras, you're going to lose that fight (even without the vipers). Carriers are only good when upgraded, in large numbers, and with their interceptors already out. Admittedly then they are amazing; but getting there is very difficult unless the opponent is asleep for 6 minutes.

    @kugeltmg tempest/phoenix are a significantly faster option. Based on the tech they had though base trading was probably the best choice. But while stalling can build a second Stargate and stockpiling void rays for defense til they push to your last base. They don't need to win the fight, just need to stall for time for your main army to wipe their bases.

    Detection is the main issue vs. Ghosts as well. In PvT they just scan and snipe the Observer. Then ghosts can do whatever they want. The +1 vision for the pylons is a good call, but is still not enough. I mean we admit that Protoss has a vision problem. Maybe +1 vision on the Cannons as well, idk. The problem is the detection. Other than that, I think Protoss is fairly balanced right now.

    Dear Harstem, I’ll just put it straight up. Human players are imba. In this game, my opponent set my predetermined strategy to “Economic Focus”. I thought we were going to have an epic macro game as I droned up as much as my programming allowed. My opener was solid and I was ahead of my human opponent for most of the game. Everything was going perfectly until bam, two dropships full of marines and marauders drop in my main. There was nothing I could do. One by one, my buildings fell and I had minimal army units to fend off my opponent. It was a disaster. I requested to surrender to my opponent but to my dismay, my opponent said NO to my request and continued to destroy the rest of my buildings. Not only was my opponent imba, but they had the audacity to bm me as well. This is surely imba, as I was not allowed to commit more resources to building an army, but I’ll let you tell me Captain. Is it imba, or do I suck? - AI (Hardest)

  • @mihairo83

    @mihairo83

    21 күн бұрын

    Mass lurkers do so much economical damage vs. Protoss. It is kind of imba from this point of view, not because Lurkers are OP, but because Protoss detection is too weak. You need Oracle good micro, Storm micro and Immortals to deal with it. Skytoss is way too expensive for a Protoss struggling economically, and even if you get to that very slow skytoss army, at that moment Zerg will have map control and faster units. More HP for the Observer too keep him alive for 1-2 seconds more would make a lot of difference IMHO.

  • @scipio764

    @@mihairo83a) You can opt for disruptor. b) As Harstem said, you dont fight into the Lurker. You poke around until you get into airtoss. As a Zerg player, having to tech into Lurker against Protoss is annoying af. Good Protoss can keep you at base with relative ease, and attack with Lurker forces you into base trade, which is something I dislike.

  • @kugeltmg
    @kugeltmg22 күн бұрын

    This level of play won't get you to 3300 mmr. Zergs go mass Lurker almost every mid-game in plat/diamond; so you've got to learn that you just don't attack into that many. Like tanks, don't let them get there or accept that that's a zerg base now. I think Lowskilled was majorly thrown off by that proxy hatch and then got ptsd again when he saw lurkers probably because he's lost to them so many times. I can relate to some weird bs throwing you off. It happens all the time but it comes in so many flavors that it's often a surprise. What's truly IMBA is anything weird and aggressive early game. Any random stupid crap is almost always harder to defend than to do because the doer pre-planned it and the defender learned about it once it was well underway. You'll notice Harstem has a rote response to this, like pilot memory items; you have to know how to respond before it happens. It's never clear at that level what the hell is happening.

    2:30 - Captain, the phrase "like a frog in it's pond" isn't so much an idion/turn of phrase as a comparison. In their home turf ("ponds") some frogs sit still and let their food come to them, then do the often illustrated tongue whip. He's saying that the Zerg ends up turtling with lurkers that make it dangerous to attack him (for fear of unseen predators), then just crosses the map and ends him.

Therefore if LowSkilled belongs to some kind of a frog race he could play headless based on pure reflexes. I think "a frog in a pond" refers to the frogs in a russian children book (a traveller frog), where regular frogs are pictured as a creatures that always praise their own swamp where everything is better then everywhere else. In contrast with that special "traveller" frog that was collaborating with birds to experiment with travelling. Sadly, that brave frog could not manage to travel far enough, ended in an another swamp, bragging with her new friends about how good other places are. So probably "frog in a pond" is someone who does not want to discover something and step into the unknown.

    The key is that you do have to actually use the storms and energy-ball-thing instead of simply floating the high templar and disruptors on top of the lurkers to die.

    At 21:56 you mention how lurkers have to siege, and then unsiege, and this is time consuming.. Its not really true though. You can totally leapfrog constantly using the shift key and que up the siege mode on things like siege tanks, liberators, and lurkers. If you make just two separate hotkeys you can do this all day to great effect.

    Another thing I rarely see is pro players queuing up targets.. lets say you have two reapers and you know you can kill 3 probes.. you can shift left click 3 probes an dthen send reapers home as one long command freeing yourself up to do other things in the early game. This works for clearing supply depos quickly with liberators as well.. You can siege your liberators analize and decide to kill a few supply depos or a single tech structure, and also que up retreating after they are done, with pathing. congrats on the recent tournament btw, I love your work.

    You are mistaken slightly. Storming is from High Templar, take two to get an Archon, those two units are pretty much the same as in SC2. The Dark Templar are very similar to their SC2 successors, no blink though. Take two of them to get a Dark Archon, which special gimmick is to mind control an enemy Unit - Permanently. I'm not certain you can even make Dark Archons in Multiplayer...

    I’m pretty sure the frog in its pond thing just means that it’s ready to spring an attack at any time. Frogs can jump very high with their legs, and basically instantly, so a frog sitting in its pond is ready to jump, and strike I guess.

    Someone has probably answered at this point, but Dark Archons have Mind Control, Feedback and Maelstrom. I think Maelstrom just holds units in place without making them invulnerable like Stasis does. But don't quote me on that. I don't think Dark Archons were ever really part of the Meta.

    Honestly the problem of the series is that captain while asserting "is it imbalanced or do I suck" doesn't seem to recognize scenario "I suck, but it is still unbalanced". Let's be honest - everyone will always suck. We have seen players from all levels even pro asserted as "sucks", but losing because of making mistakes doesn't mean it's balanced. For most of player's who can't play Perfect lack of Ballance means situations where probabilities of making mistake or impact of those mistakes are asymmetrical. In this case guy's army melted in seconds because in heat of the moment he made a mistake of not using an attack move and his units simply walked over lurkers not dealings any damage and dying. While it is also possible to do a similar mistake from zerg side and walking with lurkers into a protoss death ball it usually doesn't happen. I think SC2 unit pathing and clumping up patterns makes the army that is not well controlled very vulnerable to lurker damage especially when army is walking towards lurkers as they deal splash damage in straight lines. So consequences of not doing at least basic correct micro against lurkers are catastrophic and this is why in my book it is not balanced.

    @@TheGriftcast Irrelevant. As this game actually shows, the Lurker is just too imba. The only control is burrow/unburrow, and it has 200 hp (!), good speed, insane SPLASH damage and it costs very little in terms of resources and supply compared to it's insane damage output. If you put 15 tanks there instead of Lurkers, the tanks would eventually be cleaned up, but Lurkers? Nooooo. Tbh Lurkers should lose their extended range upgrade and get nerfed to 150 hp, so that 1 disruptor ball and 2 storms kill them. Then they might be balanced.
