Hi- Excellent 1st Hand how to video~! Is the thermostat the 1st thing to check if your Transit overheats? I smell sweet smell of coolant inside the van as the Temp guage went to HOT while sitting in driveway...no leaking under van- ...i do see thick residue of oil sludge caked over cylinder # 1- I just tried the K-brand Head Gasket Sealer- ...not noticing a change yet... so I thought maybe I should tow the van to Pep Boys and pay 500-700 for a new thermostat -

Thanks alot! I would recommend getting a pressure test done to find a coolant leak. If you can smell it, it's definitely leaking from somewhere.

Plastic tee make it out of copper pipe or galvanized gas pipe from plumbing store.

What about the tee that the hose that you took the clip to remove the coolant bottle hose. I'm dealing with the same van where that very tee is broken. I'm having a hard time getting to it.

Question. My transit overheats when driving at 75 80 miles. I change the water pump and belt tensioner. But still overheating. You think maybe thermostat problem?

Hi, could I ask if a 57 plate has the same setup? as the garage I use can not fix the problem and he has never mentioned a bottom hose thermostat. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thermostat is a whole assembly.
