I'm a big fan of these fans, pun intended. I tried them out when I built a PC for a friend last year on a budget. I have compared specs with a $70 Lian Li 3 pack and the Thermalright fans have significantly better static pressure and flow rate, while actually being slightly quieter. I will concede that the Lian Li fans may look slightly better but not $55 better. Depending on the case, you might not be able to tell anyway. Certainly wouldn't be able to tell in a case with a proper high airflow mesh front. Cannot overstate the benefit of 'daisy chaining', ripped off from Arctic's PST. If you are using 12 fans, I wouldn't plug them all into the same power header though. Even a midrange board tends to have 3 system fan headers these days. Doesn't matter for the ARGB connections and I'll use just one even if there are 2 on the board. LEDs aren't going to overdraw the header or wiring but you hook up enough fans to one header, you might burn something. Probably the daisy chain connectors because you'd be drawing 12 fans worth of current through a single point through a connector that was really only designed for a single fan. I'd say 3 on one header is probably a sensible limit. Another fun thing you can do is piggyback the rear fan off the CPU fan header so that it runs in time with the CPU cooler. Pretty much a straight shot there and it is dumb to have that rear exhaust fan moving less air than the CPU cooler, which can happen on a lot of boards, depending on design and how they are set up in BIOS. The air stacks up, gets turbulent and impairs the extraction of the GPU heat out the rear vents and top screen via positive pressure from the front intake fans. I think on a lot of newer boards, the sys fan header nearest the CPU is set to run at the same speed as the CPU fan. This is but one of the many reasons why just slapping a PC together and running it for all of 5 minutes before packing it up and shipping it out the door is a horrible practice but is followed by all major SIs and the majority of smaller volume and custom builders. You can get a decent prebuilt or custom as long as you buy it from me or one of the half dozen other builders on the planet who go the extra mile and then drive a few more hours just to be sure. 'New' just means a component that has had very little testing. Used is actually often a better bet. I've seen too many new parts DOA or fail quickly due to poor QC. I just used these fans again in a build for sale yesterday. R5 2600/RX 6600. 3 fans in front, one in back and one on the cooler. PC runs cool and quiet, even with the GPU power limit at 120% and the CPU drawing 115W with an OC. I used an Assassin 120 X SE R cooler and was blown away when it kept the CPU at 52C during a burn test. It is the thinnest 120mm cooler I've ever seen but I'm planning to get one for my Ryzen 5600X. A recent GPU upgrade left me with more room and the 92mm cooler is looking awfully small. Been running an undervolt/underclock to keep temps reasonable and for $20, I can overclock the piss out of it and still drop temps by 10-15C.

You get one of those $20 cheap AF hubs that comes with a remote that lets you change the color and pattern. Some hubs are just hubs, while others are controllers. From what I can discern from a quick search, it looks like what you bought is just a hub and will not work without a control signal from a MB ARGB header. It is just a holdover from before they started doing the daisy chain thing and you would have to have a header for each fan. Thermalright also makes a very basic controller for around $8 you could get to make it work but it will have limited functionality. It looks like a little inline dongle with 3 buttons on it and you'd have to open the case whenever you want to change the color and/or pattern. Also, the only thing I am seeing for hubs with a Thermalright brand is actually a PWM hub, not ARGB. AFAIK nobody makes one to plug into an internal USB header for control with software, which seems so obvious but now it is actually cheap enough to produce that, it is an edge case anyway because even the 5 year old ASUS Prime B450 I have has both 12v and 5v headers. How many people want to spend $50 to have software controlled RGB on a 10 year old platform? The USB linked hub would cost at least that much. Nevertheless, I'm going to get to do it at least once because I am building a PC to sell with a 4th gen i7 and a 1080. The 1080 has RGB which will have to be controlled with software and then the case fans will have to be set manually with the remote. Will be a PITA for whoever buys it but on a $500 PC that performs as well as it does, these are the kind of things most people will just cope with. And it will have functional RGB. TL;DR, here's a link to a YT vid that will say basically what I said using a lot more words and taking up a lot more time than just reading this comment: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZ6ckq2upqTPoMY.html

I recently discovered that you can control RGB through BIOS on a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite V2. Not sure about the Asus Tuf board I have in my gaming PC but everything else on it is better speced than the Anus board. But since I was putting the Anus board in a PC I'm going to sell, I found it a very useful feature for staging my product photos without having to use an app (in my experience, they all suck). Another point worth mentioning is that there is some spotty cross-compatibility between manufacturers. I have used an EVGA app to control lighting on a Asus board before. The card was EVGA and using the Asus app to control the lights on the EVGA card didn't really work properly. I also had a Wraith Prism in the mix which is 12V RGB. The Asus app also didn't seem to like doing both 12V and 5V lighting, which was probably the issue with the GPU also. I don't really do RGB, I just tried it once so I knew how to do it as a builder. I hated it and will never RGB a PC for my own personal use. It used to be a huge waste of money but these Thermalright fans are way cheaper than the Noctua fans I typically use. It really doesn't cost extra to have basic RGB these days but I still won't do it. I might buy these fans for one of my own machines but it will be the non-RGB variant.

Having the same issue right now on my B450 Tomahawk Max. I'm looking for a separate ARGB controller to completely bypass the motherboard headers which are 4-pin 12V and thus not addressable. These Thermalright's 3-pin 5V A-RGB can light up each LED individually, while with 4-pin 12V ALL LEDs show the same color and brightness at the same time. There are some 12V to 5V converters but they only let you connect the 5V ARGB to your 12V RGB motherboard header but you will lose the functionality to individually address the LEDs and thus what ARGB really is about. So with these converters the ARGB fans will behave as if they were 12V RGB fans and only show a single color at a time for all LEDs. The only gain would be you could control them with the software that the motherboard comes with, but most of them are horrible anyway, it seems. So, a separate ARGB controller bypassing the mobo headers is the way to go for me. Just need to figure out which one is actually good.

lets be real. the Artic P12 is just as cheap or cheaper and some of the best performing fans you can buy. they are under $5 but they have 0 RGB another plus in my book.
