I feel like the boy and girl met when they were younger (the boy being abused by father or mother) and stuck by each other. Through the years the boy began to physically abuse the girl seeing as he thinks it’s affection, and the girl stayed with him. Her staying made the people around her leave (the pot over head with staring people, broken hearts). And now she sticks with him, because she believes he won’t leave if she lets him hit her, possibly hoping that he’d stop one day and holding onto hope, while the boy is indifferent and gets depressed because he sees how he treats her and doesn’t understand why she won’t leave.

For the shampoo bottle, it can look pretty, but if it's empty then it's pointless or without meaning. For the garbage bag, it's full, but the stuff inside it isn't good. Like an artificial, skin deep relationship, vs one where there's a lot more investment/depth, but none of it is good.

Yes, there were theories of what you just said and some others on the original video. However, like I said the theories were on the original video, therefore (pun intended) meaning the video you just commented on is a re upload. I heard that the channel that the original version was on was deleted, unfortunately 🥲. Update on the whole Kiwi / Yumilytle thing. Apperantly they changed their youtube name to kiwi and it was orignally yumilytle (a much more searchable name) so if anyone get's any leads on if they are still doing art that would be nice, I searched up their socials and they deleted their Tumblr so this deletion on their account may've been on purpose. Also there was a period of 3 years straight they didn't upload anything before their account was deleted. What I'm betting on is that they went to college (as it would make sense for the fact their channel got deleted in 2021) and were maybe embarrassed of their old work of art, so maybe they sold their account (which would explain why the reason they were deleted was due to seggsual content as that sort of thing happens when you sell accounts, plus it would explain why if the creator was just simply hacked they didn't try and reach out yet.) and they must've just gotten rid of their tumblr along with it. This is just my theory though, they were last noticeably active in 2020 when the name changed occurred but everything past that point is up for speculation, Kiwi or whatever you go by now we miss you! your art is incredible.

I had a friendship just like this song back in primary school. We were both really young, I didn't understand what she was doing, and maybe she didn't either, I'll never really know. She isolated me from all my other friends, and made me believe that she was my only friend, the only one I needed. At one point, it really was me and her. You and me. She made me actually believe we were best friends. I found a diary entry from back then about her. It went something like "Have you ever had a friend that only acts like one online, but doesn't talk to you in school?" It seemed as if she was embarrassed to be seen with me, while simultaneously being by my side 24/7. Although, I don't think she had realized what she was doing. Maybe she was just trying to keep me close, and that was the only way she knew how (even if it ended up in me having a long history of trust issues, abandonment issues, miscommunication issues and etc. after her-). I hope she's in a better place now, and has changed.

Basically I was saying that I related to this song because one of the friends I had made back in primary school was very manipulative/emotionally abusive, and distanced me from all my other friends for months until she was my only friend, and I didn't want to believe it when I first heard it from others, until I saw it with my own eyes. Since then her involvement in my life has altered it alot with all my other friendships, even if I haven't spoken to her in years. I hope this helped you.

Reading people's theories like the morning newspaper in a 1900s comedy

I think it's important to note that the two of them staying together hurts BOTH of them, not just the girl. Yes, it's horrible that he's physically abusing her and doesn't know how to love her the way she wants him to. However, I think it's important to understand that her staying with him only prevents him from being able to heal, because she keeps trying to fill him with her love thinking that'll help him when it just won't. She's not allowing him to see love beyond what he's been exposed to, which was the abuse he had to suffer in childhood and the love from her that he's finding completely void and empty. The thing I've noticed that shows this is that, when they're grown up, he's wearing this huge puffy winter jacket. Symbolically, it's like he's trying to keep himself warm, but he doesn't have the girl's help to do so. She's not hugging him or anything. It's just him alone trying to tuck in and keep himself curled up tight to stay warm. The relationship is toxic in BOTH directions.

And then he started to abuse her ig to release anger from how his mom abused him onto her and toxic ass relationship. like me saw and heard the song when it came out but now i understand it T-T

I like the ending, I think it’s her, after leaving, looking back on all the red flags and seeing that his love took her everything (full plate) but gave her nothing (three strands of rice) and she’s both free and sad looking back.

My theory is that the girl is from a poor family. She has nothing so when she meets abused boy she instantly attaches herself. Abused boy used to care for her as a kid but later began to abuse her but she still stayed, because she hoped that the boy she loved would come back, in the end he kills her.

I don't think he killed her, rather I think it looks like he abandoned her because he didn't want to be in the relationship anymore and left a message on the plate saying he loved her. (2:56) I understand that the song is basically about a couple that allows themselves to do everything because they "love" each other, although the boy questions this rationing too much (like wanting to run away from the relationship in a passive-aggressive way). so, this comment is primarily about the mv and song because i am A HUUUGEEEE FAN of the person who covered this song (eve) so let me just infodump here!! so first things first this version of the somg is a cover, the original song is a vocaloid song by TadanoCo. the cover is by eve and features 38ban. if you look up "therefore you and me original" it should be the first result. in case maybe you wanted to hear what the original sounds like. personal opinion but i feel like the cover is better than the original. when i was watching the mv (cover and original mv is the same) i noticed that what happens or is shown in this video is almost identical to the songs mv. while of course in this one there is some stylistic changes and things that were added in but if you compare the two you'll see what i'm talking about. so i think this mv is the songs mv but with kiwi's characters and it just follows the story of the song with some stuff tweaked to fit their characters somewhat. that's all i have, i'll edit this if i forgot something!

I cannot stop listening to this. I found it today through a Totono edit. I love it so much. This animation fits it really well too. My favourite thing is the question of the empty shampoo bottle or the full bag of garbage. It's a great metaphor. Clean but empty vs messy but with substance. Being a music geek for a second. The switch between 4/4 and 3/4 creates a slightly unbalanced feeling which really suits the themes. Thanks for sharing.

This song has always resonated with me so much. I find myself constantly drawn to people who have been/are being abused, and getting in relationships with them often means that I am abused by them too. I don’t have it in me yet to do anything but take the abuse and comfort the people hurting me, and though I’m trying to break out of this pattern it’s extremely difficult, and I still have a lot of work I need to do. I have been the altruistic one in my relationships, taking it upon myself to be upbeat and happy for my partners, thinking that I am helping in some way, when in reality I have enabled these abusive behaviors and in doing so made it impossible for people to move on or heal from their own abuse.

I recently broke my headphones wire and when i went to listen to this I found that I can hear only the guys voice if i twist the wire in a specific angle? idk how this happened but it's rlly cool lol

Idk why but I always theorized this song/animation was about an abusive relationship. (Tw?) but I thought she always appeared with a pot over her head and lots of bandaids because of the guy. I also thought the guy had a rough childhood and was taking out all his trauma and pain on her. I don’t know.

0:22 is it just me or does is the boy's hand bent in a funny position? Like, dislocated or broken and going without treatment because of physical abuse? He seems pretty tense and hurting too, probably because he's trying to wipe something off his face with a broken, bent hand. It's also with the lyric "A clock without its hands", so maybe they're comparing the boy to the clock, with no functional hands? He also has them in his pockets a lot, like he's keeping them away, maybe from further harm, they're dug really deep into his coats pockets when he gets older, like he's become even more closed off. Like, he won't let his family touch his hands because they've hurt them before. And he won't let the girl love him because love has hurt him before. Because he loves his family and they abused him. The "keeping them away" could reference his physical abuse of her, though. I wrote a full freaking analysis about funnily drawn hands.

All I can find left of Kiwi/Yumilytle is that they were v. prominent in the ZaDR shipping community of invader Zim + as well as their friends making a lot of NSFW Content which could be a contributing factor? I've heard ZaDR is a problematic ship but I don't go to the fandom so correct me if i'm wrong (sorry). As well as this I can find a post made in 2017 (I think) about Kiwi's friends making a 'feel better soon' art piece based around Invader Zim and they said they hoped they came back from a hiatus so other than that i'm unsure where else kiwi could've went.

I think its really funny on how theres lore about this song and how the creator just straight up disappeared off of all their socials, but, if thats the case, i dont think they want to be found, please stop looking for them, if they wanted to be found they'd come out and say who they are ect.
