That totally makes sense-maybe later you can tame some of the lower level creatures so you can focus on hunting the rarer ones/bosses? And don’t need to worry as much about the basic ingredients as much

Ooo yeah! Maybe we’ll have a cool place we can keep them too, like the slime hutch in stardew. Instead of animals, have creatures / monsters for ingredients and maybe have different ways to take care of them as well.

SpiritFarer is a great game about that exact topic. It's a pretty small game I believe done by a indie/small team I could be wrong. The art style they chose is amazing and the storyline is really well written. All the characters take the form of some kind of animal and you have a boat which you travel throughout the land. You can upgrade your boat to be bigger faster stronger and also customize the living quarters on top of the ship. You can have multiple characters on the ship and they all eat different foods and like different gifts. You also have a pet cat that allows you to couch co-op the game one player using the cat. It's not made by the same game dev as Haunted Chocolatier but a great game nonetheless. Hope this was helpful my friend 🙏 have a good one Patty

with the tweets and knowledge he has from stardew 1.0-1.6 it makes me feel like he's shooting to release this game at the size, if not bigger, than what we have in stardew.

Thanks for your deep dive! I can't wait! I hope ConcernedApe takes his time to develop the NPCs more this time (like he said he wished he did in Stardew), because that's the best part! There were certain things lacking in Stardew, for example the babies never changing and remaining sort of static/lifeless. I love the concept thus far! Hopefully he doesn't feel rushed. I know the game will be spectacular either way.

Those "golden rods" are beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax) in bloom :) Barone lives in the PNW & definitely spends time in the woods! I was so shocked to see salmonberries (which I picked as a kid) in Stardew Valley & had to find out more about the folks who made the game... And was completely blown away to find out it was one person's passion project! I'm looking forward to the Haunted Chocolatier too!

One of my favourite little details about stardew is that blackberries are almost universally liked, but the villagers opinion on salmon berries are very divided. I love picking salmon berries irl when they're in season, but they're definitely nowhere near as tasty as blackberries are.

Finally someone mentions 2023 gold in that blacksmith screenshot! I would love a 2023 release, but I think it is kinda unlikely, especially after ConcernedApe tweeted yesterday that he is taking a break from working on HC and now he will focus on Stardew Valley 1.6 (which I am excited about too, even if there won't be that much content). Still, I am dying of waiting for HC, but Eric should work on it for as longs as he wishes, because I know it will be a masterpiece

He could finish it quicker, but it’s Eric, so I think he’s taking that expertise and making the game better rather then quicker. Also, I don’t think it is/would have been a winter 2023 release fully, more like a beta release for us frantics of his games, even so, I LOVE how the game looks, it gives off that nostalgic Christmas vibes that I love. Plus the lil gun above the mantle?? And the lil betting card table? Idk I’m just super stoked for the game.

I just hope the fighting is as easy to pick up as it was in Stardew. I am very happy that there will be relationships too. Also didn't Eric say this does take place in the same universe as Stardew, just in another area all together? There were definitely magical elements in Stardew, so it wouldn't be too surprising. Needless to say I am looking forward to this game and I am being very patient.

I like combat in stardew, but only with a sword/hammer. If I'm forced to use the bow, and it's like a slingshot, that's going to be soooo annoying. Anyway I'm so hyped for this game :) Thanks for putting this video together.

So someone actually commented about the flowers and they’re totally not magical 😅 they’re called “beargrass” in real life and grow near where Eric barone lives! (PNW) I’m so glad they commented that! I think I thought it was “magical” because of the gold coloring haha 😂

One fact that wasn’t in the video is that he is taking a break on Haunted Chocolatier to work on a Stardew Valley 1.6 update that is supposed to make the game more friendly for the modding community. Otherwise great video and I love how much info you included! It made me hype for the game all over again ☺️

He’s from Washington state, so a lot of the scenery is based on the scenery in the state! 😊 The town itself reminds me of Leavenworth, WA quite a bit.

Nope, he’s still doing everything completely by himself! (Which is insane talent!!) Where stardew only took 4.5 years, I totally expect him to get done with HC faster or at the very most as much time as SV took, since he has more experience now. 😄 Thank you so much for watching!

I’m definitely thinking more of a 2024 winter release, just because of the delay with 1.5 mobile and now he’s doing 1.6 for stardew. I've been unbelievably excited since the first preview dropped. The art work, the characters - just the fact that somehow a game as amazing as Stardew Valley was his first game and now we get to see all those additional skills on the next one...I'm just hyped. I don’t think the main world will be stuck in Winter. It probably wouldn’t work if you consider festivals and time progression. And the fact that the holiday decorations are there adds more proof that it’s probably seasonal.

I can see the whole festival thing being an issue, but everything he has mentioned in interviews / tweets and the livestream, has pointed towards a permanent winter 😄 with Eric and his talent, I’m sure he’ll make the festivals work!

Yes,. And we can bake and sell chocolate goods. customers can send in orders. We can hire helpers for certain parts of the job. Or even just chocolate themed furniture, items. We need to gather ingredients, resources to improve our homes and business. I love chocolate so whatever he comes up with will be fun for me.

I would say that’s more likely at this point in the year - he’s still working on stardew valley 1.6 (which I don’t think anyone expected to even be a thing😂) so I definitely think we’ll just get screenshots and more info instead this year. He just posted a new one a few days ago, actually! 😄

I wonder if villagers coming in will be like it is in recettear, where they're mostly random NPCs but occasionally villagers will come in, and probably have unique dialogue/preferences

That’s definitely what I think will happen! Maybe every once and awhile a villager NPC will come in and shop, while the rest are randomly generated! 😄

Ngl I’m skeptical that a game called Haunted Chocolatier would be for me, but then I was skeptical about Stardew valley and that is amazing.

I'm super excited for HC and I think I'll like it even better than SV (although that's already a masterpiece and definitely one of my favourite games ever) because of the dark sides, cute creatures and magical worlds he mentioned. I love mysteries, chocolate and cold seasons and I guess HC will offer a lot of that. And sure a 2023 release would be incredible but he should take his time. After all he's only one single creator working on all of these different things at once. I'm super excited but I don't really care whether it comes out in 2024 or 2028 or 2030. I will wait for it.

I’m nearly 80hrs into stardew valley and I can’t stop playing it. There’s still so much to do, but Haunted Chocolatier looks amazing. I play Stardew on my iPad, which is great for me, so I hope there’s a mobile port for this game as well.

I know stardew valley really has SO much content, I’m sure HC will have even more. From what Eric has stated so far, I think with the mobile update for Stardew valley taking so long, he doesn’t have interest in porting HC to mobile. However, maybe he’ll change his mind! ☺️

This game seems very much like "Moonlighter" with a dungeon for collecting material and you sell them. As time goes on your shop sorta becomes automated.

Since Haunted Chocolatier is supposedly in the same world as Stardew, I feel like the painting world isn’t the world of Stardew.. if HC is already part of SDV. The painting world is just… a painting of the “real” world HC and SDV are in. I’d like to think the town of HC is just very far up north from wherever SDV is. That’s just what I’m thinking for now.

I really hope the main world is only winter fir the winter release and actually has seasons. I got mad Seasonal Depression

Here’s a theory, what if the “magical world” isn’t the magical world, what if the permanent snow world is the magical one as it seems like a marina type thing, so the “magical world” is the real one and we escape to another world

Maybe the NPCs in the castles hidden worlds are connected to the ghosts and could maybe even become them after you release them. 😵‍💫just my theory tho

I just noticed that the glitched door in stardew valley could be the green door we see being opened when the main character is traveling to gather ingredients maybe? a long shot I don’t know.

I think the winter part, is because in stardew you can’t farm during the winter. So in this game farming isn’t the main part

If you stop the video at 12:48 and pause, you can see a hole at the fire creatures right and down . Does that look like little worms from Stardew Valley? Or is it just me.. P.s video was very informative. Thanks for upload. Just recently it was announced that there will be 1.6 update for Stardew Valley . I can't wait for this game! I am such a HUGE fan of Eric Barone (I mean, he made all the stuff himself for Stardew... the gameplay, the art, the music... Such an inspiration!). Although... Since I'm trying to learn how to make games myself I don't know if I dare buy this one... I was only going to try Stardew Valley when I bought it for my Switch but 200+ hours I'm still going! 🤣

I know I am so excited!! Eric barone is such an amazing creative, it’s crazy! Oh you HAVE to buy this one 😂 just limit your time on it… I wonder if there’s a lock you can put on your switch for so much game time a day? That way you can focus on learning how to make a game too!

I doubt it. But would be cool if one of the magical worlds pulls from your stardew file as the farm or village at least. Also, highly doubt a 2023 release considering the tweet about taking a break from Haunted to work on 1.6 Stardew.
