There's a New Timber in Town - FIRST FLIGHTS w/ FMS Kingfisher 1.4m

Ойын-сауық

The Kingfisher is faster than a Timber, rolls and pitches better, and flies slower than a Timber can. Not that Timbers are bad - we love ours - but lightly loaded bush wings? Sign us up. If you want one for yourself, consider getting it via bit.ly/FMSKingfisher at no additional cost to yourself.

Jon you may have just sold me on one of these. I've often wondered how it was. A set of Timber tires would fix er right up. I like that it comes with floats...I'd love to see you fly it off a lake. I have been flying a buddies Timber EVO on floats and now I want a float plane. Good price too. Looks a little like a Cessna 185. I like that it has struts...looks more "authentic". Nice review...well done. Also...one thing. Just an observation and my personal opinion. Not gospel, just something to think about. It's not necessary for you to keep saying how honest you are and how much integrity you have. Your passion for the hobby, objectivity, personal style, and honesty about it all are obvious. I know why you do it. There are those that (stupidly I might add) automatically assume anyone that gets airplanes for free will lie to keep the stream of free stuff coming in. Its like automatically lumping people in a specific group because of who they vote for, with no consideration for the endless number of possible caveats and differences that make an individual who they are. It's just a narrow minded way to see people. Jon anyone that watches your content or mine...I mean REALLY watches, and listens to the words we are saying...will know how we roll. The people that assume, and don't listen enough to pick up on the obvious objectivity, passion, and honesty...well that is their problem, and it doesn't really matter what you tell them. Their narrow mind is made up before the first word is spoken anyway. Like you...I sometimes almost feel bad if I really like a plane. It's as if I feel like I HAVE to find a negative...and its because of the people I spoke of we think that. Well I'm done worrying about that. We all know there are "cheerleader channels", and those are painfully obvious as well. We aren't that...and our loyal subscribers that pay attention all know that. Jon integrity shows in the way a man carries himself. Its never proven with words...only actions. I'll never say how honest I am on my channel. I don't have to. Its obvious to anyone that actually pays attention and has watched more than 3 videos of mine. You are a good man Jon, and it shows. You owe the narrow minded RC Karens nothing. Have the confidence to just be you, and know this brother...that is more than enough.

Thanks so much for the kind words Adam. We'll probably lay off saying "this is our honest feedback" in the future because we'd like to think that the enthusiasm comes through from how we fly these models, not because they were sent to us. This wasn't even on our radar until FMS asked us to review it. We realized quickly that it's a gem of a model - like a Timber but weighs less and is almost as aerobatic. We'll be reviewing it on floats for its final review, and will probably keep making content with it as long as it survives the goofy antics we're up to. Unfortunately, Timber wheels don't fit - you'd have to drill them to make them fit.

I put the spongy Durafly Tundra tires on my Kingfisher. I think the inflatable tires XFly has on a couple of their planes like the Tasman would be great on several planes if they were ever in stock. They look lighter than Dubro.

As someone that's been flying RC for about 30 years now, I'll say I absolutely love the channel, and love all the fantastic new products over the last couple of years. Foam, whether it's EPS or EPO etc has come such a long way, much like batteries and power systems. 30 years ago electric was primative and underpowered. Was 99% nitro powered when I started. Even ducted fans..remember the big .90's with the massive tuned pipes? I discovered bush planes a few years ago with the Durafly Tundra and absolutely love the thing. Such a slow gentle flyer but will perform nearly every trick in the book out of the box. The FMS Kingfisher looks like another step up with the wing design but absolutely needs better gear and softer tires.. The one thing I upgraded on the Tundra...big squishy tires...Makes all the difference.

One more reason to love this plane is the threaded inserts on the bottom for the floats. They're perfect for any payload you want to attach. I've 3d printed a bunch of stuff like a candy drop, a glider tow release, a head tracking FPV system, and even a fake smoke system. The manual says it's a 3S plane, but I run mine on 4S with the stock ESC, and I've had no issues. And yeah, pretty much every pavement landing skids exactly like yours. :)

Over the 50 year span of me flying RC if I had a dime for every plane that said, "Sporty enough for maneuvers yet docile enough to be a trainer" I'd be rich!!! Well... hell might have froze over here I was very impressed with your review which sure seemed to show that the design honestly does both. Most trainers suck at inverted flight and as such you cannot practice some more advanced flying without risking a crash. I'm sure some of the footage here is a testament to your very good flying skills [ bravo my friend!! ] none the less if ever you wanted a plane that you could practice some advanced techniques yet have a very slow flying and very predictable plane to bail you out of a less than ideal situation this might be one of the best I've ever seen.

After learning the basics on a very forgiving little ZT Cub, I purchased a Kingfisher and this has pretty much taught me to fly. It's forgiving, straightforward to fly, not too big and those wheels mean I can fly from grass in my local park. I've smashed it a few times and it was easy to repair. The only poor design aspect are where the wing struts join the body - the mount is plastic, easily broken in a hard smash and the part cannot be replaced. With a bit of creativity you can repair it though. 10mins flying time per 3S pack. 3 years later it's now teaching me aerobatics. Can only speak from personal experience, but it's been a great little aircraft for me and I've enjoyed many happy hours flying it. Great to see it's available.

@@TwoBrosRC Well that's one impressive way to break the mount! I broke mine in the more shameful tried-and-tested fashion of crashing the aircraft. I went for a metal fix - drilled a hole and used a screw-in curtain eye of a similar diameter. It seems pretty secure, but hasn't been exposed to 10g yet. I'll keep working on those aerobatics.

    Жыл бұрын

Thanks man! How you want to run your channel is ultimately your call, but what we'd suggest doing is aiming for the highest quality bar you can reach and consistently trying to jump over that bar with every upload. Even Shorts. Especially Shorts. So many channels make the mistake of posting Shorts with the model flying off-screen and people lose interest. Our Shorts are hand-edited to ensure the aircraft stays in frame, not just clips of full length video from our channel. We try to post engaging or interesting content, more than just basic flying. Attention spans are shorter. Even in long form video, cut the content and get to the point. Make it flow tightly. We're still improving our format to take our own suggestions into consideration, but the better your videos are the more your channel will grow. Thumbnails and titles are everything, too. Easily readable titles with good graphic design practices will outperform content from similar channels because people will see the thumbnail and want to open the video. Feel free to ask any other questions, we're happy to help. The algorithm promotes RC flying more if the channels posting content are consistently performing well. The better you do, the better we do.

The Super Cub is more enjoyable, but not by much. The only time we broke a strut on the Kingfisher was because we made the airframe over-G by doing tight horizontal loops at full throttle. The strut was easy to fix - we just sandpapered the inside of the sleeve and the part that slots into it to give it more surface area, then hit it with Gorilla Glue. The Maule is a more stable aircraft and has more acro potential than Kingfisher does, along with being easy to fly slower on a 3 cell pack. Check out our vid on it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lo19x7xqk9G0ls4.html

@@TwoBrosRC I have been looking at numerous videos trying to decide on Maule vs Kingfisher vs Super Cub 1.3 or 1.7 and given they are priced so similar, the Maule's clear windows, attractive to me teal paint scheme vs cartoon livery of the Kingfisher and the 4S capability and wide wheel stance make the Maule the choice for me. I think the battery compartment is better and easier to fit my fat digits into as well.
