@Carlos Pro YOU KNOW WHY I SAID THAT?? IT BECAUSE THIS MUSIC TODAY IS NOT OF QUALITY. YOU HAVE MANY MOVIES, COMMERCIALS, INTROS ALL PLAYING "OLD SCHOOL" MUSIC TO GRAB THE ATTENTION OF THE PEOPLE TO BUY WHAT THERE SELLING. DOPE BEATS ON TOP OF GREAT LYRICS. VANILLA ICE, MC HAMMER, TUPAC, BIGGIE, RUN/DMC, I EVEN HEARD DAS EFFECT THE OTHER DAY WHILE WATCHING A MOVIE, I WAS SHOCKED. NOT MANY PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER DAS EFFECT!!!!!!!!!! I GET YOUR POINT THO, BUT CAN THEY PUT TODAYS RAP LYRICS /SONG TO SELL PRODUCTS?????????? I SAY NOPE, NOT AT ALL!!!!!!!!! TOO VIOLENT, TOO SEXUALIZED, CANT UNDERSTAND. THE KIDS TODAY DONT KNOW WHAT GOOD MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE UNTIL THEY GOOGLE AN OLD JAM AND FIND OUT WHO THE ARTIST IS!!!!!!!!! THE YOUNG "ARTIST/RAPPERS" TODAY IS PURE GARBAGE, YOU CANT EVEN DANCE TO THEIR MUSIC UNLES THER SINGING A RAP SONG!!! YOU GOT SLICK RICK WHO RAP AND TOLD A STORY THAT YOU CAN GROOVE TO! WHAT ARTIST YOU KNOW TODAY THAT CAN DO THAT. "IT TAKES TWO BY ROB BASS, AND DJ EASY ROCK, THAT RAP SONG WILL LIVE FOREVER. MY POINT HAS BEEN MADE SIR

Deon, I totally agree. I was born in 1969, so I've seen the birth of Rap and Hip-Hop. I remember when Rap and Hip-Hop had a message. Groups like Public Enemy, KRS1 and Arrested Development. When there were CRAZY bars, EPMD, Rakin. I could go on... but Deon said it all. There is A LOT of Garbage Music, with garbage lyrics, over weak repetitive beats.

Corporate has taken over the pop music industry. They grind out "safe" pop "hits". Creativity is out the window because it may not sell, but it could launch a new era, like Elvis, or the Beatles, or even a new genre of music. Pop stations play these mediocre tracks and people buy them. How long has it been since a purely instrumental track was on the charts?

You ain't never lied about that Sir! Garbage music has taken over the youth and some adults. There's no more creativity anywhere. There's not much good wholesome hip hop or good old love songs in R&B anymore. Hell, there's no more real R&B period if you ask me! Music is a reflection of the world today, it's gone to shit!👎🏾My only savior out here is older music and house music. Those have been my go to as of lately.

He has a valid point, when the record labels own the radio stations streaming platforms and sign the artists audiences get duped into believing that mediocre cats are good or dope. Nope it's not just rap music (most of this stuff is not Hip-Hop) it's also this pop music, this version of R & B and the rest. Music and money have always went hand in hand so it's not just all about money it's about how technology combined with a lack of creativity (talent and creativity are not the same) and fewer people willing to take a chance on artists contribute to this pure nonsense we hear today, these are just my thoughts.

If I have to hear about another big dick, or fat ass, or expensive car, or being misogynistic to women, or violence between men... I'm gonna loose it completely! It's fine that we have music like that & it does serve a purpose but why can't we have more options.... black people are the most diverse group of people on the planet I am positive that we can explore other parts of our Spirit & infuse it in our music... & unfortunately positive feel good music is not as popular

It's all relative. Today's music isn't meant for old heads like us to relate to. When I was a teenager, there were plenty of 40/50 year olds who thought bands like Parliament/Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubber Band were hot garbage, but to us they were iconic because we could relate. The 90's was the last great decade for music, but that's just my opinion.

I posted this under another comment but it stands on its own as how I see what happened to music.. It's our fault. When's the last time YOU voted music? I'm 35, the last time I was active in voting was in high school. I called the radio stations to make requests or to vote on "hit it or quit it" or some other form of that. That was US voting. .as a teen, also, we had gf/bf. We lost people/loves. We understood complexities. We wanted to feel good AND be adult AND have a song for love and lost love and friends and lost friends and etc etc. But then technology grew with us. Social media became the influence. Social media where LITTLE KIDS are all over with little to no restrictions cause parents won't or can't do it. I remember coming from USMC back home and my little cousins were on DatPiff and there were other sites like it where they were voting in who was good. All kinds of likes and sharing. That made them popular and companies want money..so..sell what's popular. Makes sense for them. They don't..or didn't back then, know that it was your little brothers and cousins and kids voting. They just know what's popping and what can bring them in money cause that music is what is wanted. Kids, want any kusifc that THEY think makes them feel grown. And kids notoriously can't stay on the same topic. So all that "commercial rap" that we used to hate on back then, became popular now..now that kids are in control. And the kids ARE in control. Back in those "call in" days, kids younger than 13 really wasn't, at large, getting in the phone hitting up radio stations. Adults and older teens who were allowed were doing that. So the older teens and adults were in control of what got popular. Logically, if we stopped our kids making shit popular and we, the older people, got more involved, WE would be the demanding force. Music would HAVE to conform to our tastes. The complexities of life ause that's what WE want. And so the shit rappers won't be popular, so companies won't pick them up .they'd go to who are popular, which are those artists who can cover more areas and depth in their music. Put some restrictions on your kid's phones and internet usage. What reason does any child need full access? People justifying letting their kids have shit just cause OTHER PARENTS let their kids have shit. Now, while I won't criticize about buying a certain brand of shoe, cause it's just that. Looks. The idea that a kid needs the next best cellphone makes zero sense. And most of them with unrestricted online access...makes NO sense. Anyhow, that bleeds into our music. They're able to get on sites and like, share, vote for all that shit we have no hand in. It has a good tune and says ANYTHING about drugs, gangs or sex, no story, no ideas, no creativity.mjust the mere mentioning of it, and a kid feels grown just for repeating those words. Mentally seeing that imagery. And they like it..cause they feel grown..what all kids want. We want music to change? Then WE need to change how music is promoted. WE have to get more involved and take away access from kids who shouldn't be all over that stuff anyhow

Funny that the video I watched right before this was Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues" and "What's Going On". Now tell me, do you hear ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE to that type those songs of artistry are creativity by todays "artist". Absolutely not.......But I will give India Irie her props for trying to put out songs with substance in the mist of so much garbage today.

Way I see it, there’s always been garbage music out there, difference is that it’s easier to access now than 20-30 years ago.
