There are storm clouds ahead for the economy, JPMorgan Chase CEO says

The banking crisis caused by the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank has increased the odds of a US recession, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon told CNN’s Poppy Harlow in an exclusive interview. #CNN #News

The economy is you and every other tax paying citizen that isn't apart of the elite club. The storm clouds started with Ronald Reagan and have never left. Now we are facing a return back to the ice age. We are getting fucked. Sadly we are back in the pre industrial era. Unity is the only way. Solidarity will only make us stronger to demand better wages and union jobs for every american and to make lobbying illegal as well as overturn the citizens united Supreme Court ruling. Plus 2 year term limits for all law makers and judges as well plus end qualified immunity for police. Just overhaul the whole system it seems. We need to do something drastically soon. God help us.

@Tim Donahue I get your point, but in the context of our society today, it doesn't really make sense to complain. Because we, as a society, with our politics and our tax policies, allow people like this to exist and to be this wealthy. Our policies say it's ok. Because anytime someone mentions taxing these people, taxing 90% of every dollar they make over $3 million a year (and this is not revolutionary, we did it before in the 1950s), no one wants to hear it. Unless we as a society want to change how we think (the conservative "well, I should be able to make as much money as I want not pay taxes on it", argument comes to mind) and actually do something policy-wise about wealth inequality, I don't see the point of complaining about it.

Notice that at no point did he suggest that the US should prohibit banks from buying property specifically as an investment. At no point did he suggest that we should reduce or prohibit foreign banks from buying up US homes as an investment portfolio. At no point did he talk about the primary purpose of a home being to house humans. Nowhere did he state that no one should be able to own beyond a certain number of residential properties. He never suggests that commercial properties be put to use or one the market. No more shelving property off the market to drive up demand in certain neighborhoods. There are banks that own more than 50% of the property in some districts and they don't lease it to tenants or use it for themselves. They do this to manipulate the market and drive up the price of their own property. If property is part of a market then we need real laws protecting a healthy market place. We're letting Chinese and Saudi banks play with us like toys.

And don’t think about today rules, but rather a pathway where they argue to legislatures to ease regulations for banks with a more distributive community model as if they are viewed as a local bank.

Yes and Wall Street banks will make it worse, then demand bailouts if the worst happens. Pay and benefits will be enhanced in such a crisis since it would require more work! No matter what happens or how many illegal activities by US banks nothing will happen to anyone. Stock prices might crash but then soar making investors even wealthier! That’s exactly what happened in 2008-9 and guaranteed it will be repeated!

To be honest I think Dimon was pretty on point here. He is transparent at the beginning that this is not charity, he is running his business, but directing business at emerging communities that could really use the opportunity. He is certainly playing politics and positioning his bank as a hero, but that is his job after all and that has been their role for years now (saving Bear Sterns etc) - and so far they have followed through. Of course as CEO of our largest bank he is biased in the outlook he portrays but in this case I see his expressions here to be overall honest and correct.
