@@fernandovasquez2249 both videos have a lot of the same imagery, underwater, siren esque characters, etc. The Freak music video is said to have been the scrapped Ultraviolence video (bc it was too dark/literal) though so that would either really help or hurt the continuation imo. Its funny how Lana says these type of things or directly writes "Im not the marrying type" and some people still think she is this extremely devoted lover. If anything, this song is admission of lying to appear as if she is devoted but in reality its all a game and she likes to watch them leave

i disagree with this, while it sound fitting on paper, if you read her poetry and notice her wording in and off her music, I dont get the sense that Lana necessarily yearns for stability or commitment. The whole song to me sounds like an admission of lying about herself to make them think thats how she is and eventually moves on to someone else, its all a game to her anyways. As if lovers are temporary, server their purpose for a time, and then she is ready for the relationships to end. She is obsessed with freedom and being wild at heart (her words) not to stay grounded in one place with one person for the rest of her life. "Pretty white mountain tops so many places to call home"

I have always feel in the chorus is a juxtaposition of "what i say (the sing voice)" / "What i really think (soft spoken voice)" So it shows the words that she uses to manipulate the boys when what she really feels (and confess) is that shes here to destroy them. Is just a Game to her, anyways.

I think Lana is talking about the power of seduction that women have over men. She says "I'll do what you want" which I think is directed to the men, she'll put on a show and be sexy like they want. But "what the girls know" is that women can turn on their charm and seduction and use it to control men. I also think the line "I watch you leave" relates to this, she can coyly watch them leave knowing they can't stay away. The feeling of the music also reminds me a lot of her song Mermaid Motel which has many references to being a striper and has major mid-centry Miami resort vibes (think Lujon by Henry Mancini) just like this song.

  • @jpvianini

So, I haven't finished watching yet, but here's something. I think the actual lyrics are " Play'em like guitars, only one of my toys", meaning she lets them think they're controlling her, but she's the one lying, so when the "gold" goes away, she turns lemon into lemonade by putting on (and out) her own music.

Never heard this song before, great selection, thank you. I am wondering if "putting on my music while I watch the boys" could be her conquest ritual? I have always believed that Lana's music is about her being the hunter of men, the men that she is attracted to. Thus, what if she created a ritual to get the men that she is atracted to? So if she sees a guy that she likes, then she "puts on her music" or she starts her rotual, she finds out the music that the guy likes, grung, punk rock, etc and she gets on stage to sing it, and she always gets her guy, until he walks out of the relationship.

Nice editing job. I noticed you did it yourself. I think that’d be difficult. So, I feel like you do with the speak of the purity between the vibrance of the baby flamingos and how the vibrance is lost once the female flamingo has had it’s babies. Maybe she is liking the mother flamingoes to hoes and then to herself. Maybe if they’re dull now and that’s equated with what society deems a female a hoe. The youth/innocence velveteen rabbit. If she was “tainted” by having been when someone before. The double standard and playing at that by playing the system. But, simultaneously, having awareness of her pattern in relationships. It makes me think TS “So I play him like a violin” & “I think I’ve seen this film before”. And having the music for this is once again speaking to this being almost pattern she’s seen before and she’s prepared for this narrative. Lemonade maybe like make lemons out of lemonade? It’s as if she’s given up on love so she’s just expecting disappointment. Maybe the flock of flamingoes and only the girls know alludes to that there are “plenty of fish in the sea” and they’re just one of the boys’ choices. Search and destroy sounds like a mission with intention. I think her use of the “boys” reference as opposed to men, also. Super fascinating. All the women are in white, also, like purity. You called it from the beginning. Holy crap I wrote a lot. Sorry! Have a lovely week! Thanks for sharing! I’m loving the Lana deep dives! Stay lovely! 💛

Hey Mere…So, I’ve never told you this…I don't think…maybe I have…hell, idk🤔, but I know Lana. Not EXTREMELY well. I believe I've told you before that my Dad has been in a band my whole life. They play all over, even overseas, at festivals, for the most part. I've met her at a few of these festivals. The 1st time not long after BTD dropped, & after her set, I was like, “Hey, I'm a huge fan…Can you sign this for me?” She was amazing! She actually noticed my backstage band lanyard, and asked who I was there with? I told her, and she knew them…which was really cool! We didn't spend much time together during that particular festival after that one encounter; but, I have had the chance to hang out with her at two other festivals over the years. The last one was right before Covid. She's amazing! I love talking to her, and picking her brain. It’s insane how much alike we are! Now, I usually don't talk about my friendship with her, or anyone else with any fame because I hate getting tons of questions about intrusive subjects. I feel like, anything she's told me, if she hasn't released it to the public, I'm DAMN sure not breaking her’s or anyone else’s, famous or not for that matter, confidence. I don't speak on things that aren't my place to speak on. She's coming to the beach in May for a festival that my Dad is playing in as well, and he told me he’d take me on the tour bus with him! I'm sooo freakin’ excited and I HOPE 🙏🏼 he actually keeps his word! Or y’all ain’t seen PISSED!!! 😡 I'd LOVE to hang out with her again…Like I said, it’s been a while! I was on her old Insta before she went offline with it for a while. When I see her, imma have her add me back! Lol! She told me one of the sweetest things anyone has ever said to me when we hung out at the last two festivals for a couple of days each time, and that was that she never felt interesting nor understood, and she very rarely meets anyone who truly “gets” her, and fully accepts her for who she is as Lizzy, not Lana, and that I was one of the rare people who sees her for who she really is, and appreciates the authentic person she is, and for that, I would always be special to her and she’d never forget me! I cried!!! I mean, I ugly cried! But she did too, so that made me feel better, Lol, and I told her I had always felt similar, and that she made me feel the EXACT same way! So, hopefully,🤞🏼I’ll see her again, think to take pics and videos, and maybe TRY to get in touch with YOU, Mere!!! Would you freak out?!?!?! Lol! 😂 But, yes, Papst Blue Ribbon on ice was her go-to drink when she was younger. So, that was what that reference was to in the song. And, your analysis was pretty much spot on. Two things…1) Lana has had low-key relationships with couple of girls, and in fact it’s when she feels the most genuinely loved and understood. Although, she’s made it clear, and she is NOT ashamed to let everyone know, her most comfortable relationship is with way older man. That’s because she likes to feel well taken care of, and just the security in it. Lastly, she hasn’t been shy AT ALL about saying it’s not necessarily the life for most women being “the other woman,” but in MANY ways, she actually perfers it, and has been in several relationships like this. On another note, how is Lil J???💛 And Mereeee…when you get a minute, PLEASE check your messages. I’ve sent a lot of things. Lol…Love you SO BIG!!!💞

You wanna hear something wild ?? I first heard of Lana back in 2012 walking the streets of Long Beach listening to God's and Monsters on repeat for weeks ! I've never ever felt so in line with anyone in my entire life. Her music speaks to me and has helped heal me from so much trauma and over the years I've just been the most appreciative of Lana's artistry and how much she's done for me without even knowing it. And a couple years ago, I started having dreams where Lana and I were literally the closest of friends, chilling in the garden, smoking a joint discussing life as if we had known each other for years. We've never met. Then i had another dream, and another, where I was at one of her concerts. I've never been to any concert before in my entire life. Months after that dream, this amazingly kind and generous woman in Florida whom I've never met but bought houseplants from off of Facebook marketplace, ends up surprising me and my best friend with tickets to her Pittsburgh show last October 3rd ! It was an over 5 hour drive to get there but we made it. I actually got to finally see her in person, with my best friend directly by my side, and my friend's boyfriend chauffeured us to the venue ! Could it have been any more perfect of a scenario ? I can't imagine that being possible. A completely serendipitous experience that I feel like I am making it up because there's absolutely no way that I'd believe it if I didn't live it myself. I know this is an extremely long shot, but if you DO see her again, if you could mention my name to her !!! Let her know I finally got into her Instagram Honeymoon account, I'm drcook88 on Instagram, and I also recently commissioned a friend for a painting of Lana. I posted it on my Instagram if anybody would like to check it out. It's from her 2014 Glastonbury concert and it's absolutely worth the price tag. I'm so happy with the way it turned out. ❤❤❤

I love hearing stories about people who have hanged with her, the stories are very similar in their description of her character and personality. It seems that people who listen to her music often misunderstand her reality and her intentions, her wants and needs. Being misunderstood is one of the topics that she keeps bringing up in all her albums , specially since honeymoon till now with Ocean Boulevard, almost as if shes begging the listener to really hear her and not just stereotype her or have a preconceived idea of her or what the media and critics seem to think of who she is. Hope you dad takes you on tour and you get to meet her again!!!

It could also mean craving that attention from men who are not very healthy XoXo

I'm so excited to watch this, but sometimes these lyric videos bug me because they don't have the right lyrics, I'm almost positive it's "where ribbons are knots" -- not "blue ribbons on ice"... though, that's an interesting interpretation. Maybe I've been singing it wrong all these years, but I'm pretty sure that's the real lyric! LOVE this song, thank you for reacting to it!!

Hey i could be totally wrong but i think "pink flamingos" along with "ribbons" may be referring to innocence because the colour pink is associated with little girl wearing ribbons. That also goes with the "velveteen ..." line 🤷‍♀️ Love your reactions btw❤

The women in the video remind me of Sirens (or nymph maybe??) luring men in to their own demise. They're putting on this show that us women see as fake, but the men don't.

I think with "blue ribbons on ice" she is referring to Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, she also literally mentions it in "This is What Makes us Girls".

I honestly don't think that Lana used the imagery of the girls kissing or her knowing what the girls know is an admission or her listening to soft grunge to her doing things she does not want to do for the sake of men. I don't think the girl who kiss her female fans on the lips with no men around is doing what your client described. Lana might sing about being there for the men in her life "till the end" almost as ride or die but her personal life is not reflecting this at all. If anything this song is an admission of her lying about her devotion to men so that men think she cares about them more than she actually does. "Hoes with lies akin to me, Lies can buy eternity, Play em like guitars only one of my toys" is directly alluding to this. Maybe those girls represents what Lana likes when the boys leave or they are not around. Despite tropes Lana uses earlier in her career she seems to be a lot more free in her relationships and not traditionally super monogamous and devoted as some listeners think. She has never really changed herself or morphed herself to her lovers, She seemed to have stayed true to herself, a more mature version of herself, but still Lizzie. Also she has stated multiple times most of the people that she's been with have been completely private relationships, so he have very little insight of how all her relationships look like.
