Love the idea of doing a grounding exercise before journaling. I've never thought of combining those before, but it makes so much sense.

I recently did an interview on my channel with author Rebecca Deng who wrote "What They Meant For Evil" She mentioned in the interview that her book in a sense started from her simply writing, like a journal, about her experiences during the war in South Sudan and her journey to the Kakuma Refugee camp as a child. That journaling and writing that was being done for healing eventually turned into a book!

This really helps to calm down a restless mind. After journaling a couple of days you can see the things that bother you on day 1 dont bother you that much on day 4. I still need to stay work everyday on myself, because when I stop the same things start bothering again after a while. It's time to push through! I'm done being traumatized

My Sistuh! Really glad I found this channel. I've been doing this without realizing it. I love you said free association... As someone who has been parentified I found myself filtering some of things I was writing EVEN THOUGH I knew no one else would read it. I have since stopped but what you're saying actually worked. I really appreciate your work, especially with dealing with psychology from a biblical mindset and addressing church trauma. As a leader that has stepped away from the false system version of Church I have met with many that need such counsel and help. Berakhah/Blessings to you! Shalom

I'm so glad you found the video helpful. So glad you have found the essence of your personal power, and have left the falsehoods behind. I, too, have left Christianity and the Church behind, but I accept and respect that some of the virtues and principles in the holy books give people hope and meaning. Whatever works for them. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on my video. Very much appreciated.

Thank you for this video. I've always loved writing and found great comfort in it, but lately it's been really hard to articulate my thoughts and feelings, mostly because they're very angry or painful. I like the idea of journaling about an experience in the past that isn't too triggering. I often try to journal about an ongoing issue and I find that extremely difficult to do.

Sophia, I see a therapist I really like, but she doesn’t deal with Complex PTSD . She does talk to me about my trauma though, and did tell me I have PTSD. to begin with . So since that is the case, Is it enough for me to overcome my CPTSD with the journaling and continue talking to my therapist with whom I don’t want to stop talking to?

I wanted to share an interview I did with Calvin University alumni, speaker and author Rebecca Deng about her book "What They Meant For Evil". Rebecca came as a refugee from what is now South Sudan via the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. This interview and her book deal with themes such as healing and trauma. Rebecca's book emerged from an almost journaling process that she was using to get out on the page many of the experiences she had from the war in Sudan, her life in the refugee camp and then her coming to the USA. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qq6Ls5mjlLynf7Q.html

Sharon, thank you very much for taking the time to offer your feedback and question. If you go back to really the first 3 minutes of the video, it talks about the boundaries surrounding this exercise. Around the 2:15 mark, there is the suggestion to not start with something highly disturbing, especially if it is something that you have not worked on in therapy or through self-work. At the 2:54 mark, I actually offer suggestions for the techniques you want to begin with before you start the writing activity. These include grounding and self-soothing techniques to ensure you are ready to begin the writing exercise, so if you start to feel overwhelmed during the writing, you can stop briefly and return to these self-soothing techniques, or you can stop altogether and seek professional help with the topic you attempted to write about. I also mentioned around the 3:10 mark a video I did on how to engage in body awareness techniques to help you return to baseline if/when you start to feel overwhelmed. I hope that helps.
