Adorno, my household God. Lovely to hear him speak and in good English. An Italian student dragged me up some stairs to his flat a few days after his death, I would not have gone of my own accord. His living room had a grand piano and plenty of books as in my home. A very awkward conversation ensued. The friend spoke awkward French to me and made embarrassing remarks and questions, repeatedly asking "Where is the body?" I did not translate his remarks into German, although Gretel Adorno understood French perfectly. I wish I had been prepared. If I could go back to that moment, I would have said, "Your husband saved my life."

I disagree with Adorno on a great many things, but I value his scholarship on (and high estimation of) Alban Berg.

Thank you so much for this posting, the first time I've ever heard a recording of TWA speaking in English. More please John, if you have it.

Wow, this is a document of how we really are and how the others see "our" image. I mean the relations between the teachers and the students ! I've always liked Alban Berg !
