I’ll add Andrew Lesnie to that list. If you watched the Appendices, he was extremely crucial to the way these films turned out. He passed at only 59 shortly after the last Hobbit extended DVD came out.

One of the most convincing performances of a nordic king ever seen, heres to Theoden, a king i would follow into battle 👑

The backbone of the greatest scene in cinematic history. I dont usually cry for actors passing but this time was different. I was about 4-5 years old when I watched LOTR for the first time. By far my favorite films ever. No close second. This one really hurt. Son of Rohan, may he be at peace.

Hail!
Not many actors had such a magnificent presence on stage as Bernard Hill.
For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.
Rest in peace Theodan King. Go to be with your fathers, in whose mighty company you shall know no shame
So sad! He will always be King of Rohan. His part in the trilogy will be remembered. Rest in Peace Bernard. You will be remembered by generations to come for your work.
I remember seeing Theodin for the first time in the cinema and thinking that within the first five minutes of him (no longer possessed by Saruman) being on screen with dialogue I could tell he was going to be a great and memorable character - most especially in the scene of him crying over his son’s grave, and certainly in many, many other moments to follow. But my favourite scene in all of the movies is the one where Gandalf exorcises him of Saruman’s grip. I was gradually recovering from a fairly relentless form of abuse at the time and was having success at fighting back, so that scene particularly was very meaningful to me.
Rest in peace king Théoden!!😢😢😢😢
As a composer and musician, it is rare that the words delivered by an actor reach the essence of my soul enough to inspire a musical creation. Such was the case when I saw and heard Bernard Hill start his dialogue and soliloquy with Gamlin, his vassal in The Two Towers. Gamlin opens : "My Lord, My Lord? King Theoden questions his very right to be king by asking Gamlin..."Who am I". The rest is golden tear-jerking drama to me. This song is part of my "Musings for Basses and Baritones collection. Ever rest in peace Bernard Hill...King Theoden forever.
Ride out to the Undying Lands, my King. ❤👑
Goodbye my king your soul flew in time and traveled to all these good memories on 1999-2003 you have all on LOTR Cast back then, then your road led to your final destination. Rest in Peace my King Theoden, Hail the Victorious Dead in movies and in real life. Goodbye Rest in Peace Sir Bernard Hill🕊️
Forth Eorlingas!
“I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel shame.” Rest in Peace Theoden King. Hail the Victorious Dead! DEATH!!! ✊🏻
King Theodon was always one of my favourite characters in the trilogy. Ive watched the movies so many times and yet his lines, Bernard hill's amazing performance never ceased to give me goosebumps, a smile on my face, tears and the will to charge to my death for Rohan. He played his part to perfection and he will be missed. May you go to the halls of your ancestor's and feel no shame but pride. Rest in piece Bernard Hill, king of Rohan.
As soon as the song kicked in, I had to pause and sit for a few minutes...to collect myself and get ready for the tears that I knew would fall.
A Beautifully done tribute. RIP Bernard Hill :(
Go in peace my king
Thank you for this beautifully made tribute video. It's perfect.
RIP King Theoden. Bernard Hill, Ian Holm, and sir Christopher Lee have reunited in the gray havens beyond the seas!
He is one of the reasons I enjoy the trilogy. He was born to play that role. Rest well Theoden king.

"Hail The Victorious Dead." Rest well, Theoden King.
We heard of the horns in the hills ringing, the swords shining in the South-kingdom. Steeds went striding to the Stoningland as wind in the morning. War was kindled. There Théoden fell, Thengling mighty, to his golden halls and green pastures in the Northern fields never returning, high lord of the host.
Bloody hell just seen. It feels like only two minutes ago I had him as a Lord of the rings collection figure on my shelf. I’m now 34. Time goes by too fast
Thanks for all King

Thank you for this. I was very sad indeed to hear of Bernard Hill's death. His performance as Theoden was incredibly powerful and moving to me and countless others. Reaching for true inspiration and spirituality in many moments - particularly his speech prior to the Ride of the Rohirrim. He truly embodied and brought to life the wonderful character and story of Theoden, and he will be immortalised through the ages through the gift of his acting in these movies, beloved by generations into the future. May the earth rest lightly on him.

❤ a lovely tribute for a rightful king RIP dear bernard
Where is the horse gone? Where the rider? Where the giver of treasure? Where are the seats at the feast? Where are the revels in the hall? Alas for the bright cup! Alas for the mailed warrior! Alas for the splendour of the prince! How that time has passed away, dark under the cover of night, as if it had never been! .... All is troublesome in this earthly kingdom, the turn of events changes the world under the heavens. Here money is fleeting, here friend is fleeting, here man is fleeting, here kinsman is fleeting, all the foundation of this world turns to waste! .... So spake the wise man in his mind, where he sat apart in counsel. Good is he who keeps his faith, And a warrior must never speak his grief of his breast too quickly, unless he already knows the remedy - a hero must act with courage. It is better for the one that seeks mercy, consolation from the Father in the heavens, where, for us, all permanence rests. ~from _The Wanderer,_ 10th century Old English poem and inspiration for Théoden's monologue Rest In Peace, Bernard Hill. May you find your white shores and far green country where nothing diminishes ever again.
Théoden King 😢
When I was young, I HATED Theoden, I thought he was a reluctant coward. But as I grew up, I realise he was in fact the strongest and had the best character arc. From being bewitched and forced to be powerless while your kingdom fell, to be freed then find out your child passed away. He had no special powers, he wasn't an elf or a wizard, he was a human. He led one of the best defences against overwhelming odds and never backed down. He rode for Gondor despite the fact they abandoned him, he led the best cavalry charge in fiction or reality, into the jaws of death. Accepting you were riding to your death and doing it with bravery and courage despite all he had lost. No, Theoden is anything but a coward. Bernard Hill's portrayal is as timeless as the franchise itself, he will be sorely missed, at least now he goes to his father's and he will not go in shame, Rest in peace Theoden, King of Rohan.
Let the horn of Helm Hammerhand sound in the deep one last time... R.I.P. Bernard Hill.
