Wonderful... I'm crying on my lunch! As a young guitarist in the mid 70's, Allan's music changed my life. It taught me that the limitations I had attributed to my instrument were an illusion. Here was someone who seemed to be able to play anything he imagined... and the music he imagined was beautiful, it seemed to come from a sacred place that only he could reach. It definitely inspired me, even though I came to realize (over the last 40-something years) that I would never be able to reach those heights. Thank you for such inspiration Allan. Rest in Peace.

All we can do is listen, love what we still have, and thank our lucky stars we got to be in the presence of such a great genius, and receive the brilliant gifts he spent his life giving us. And miss the hell out of him!

I had gone to see the Grateful Dead NYE show on 1976. I was staying at Friend's place in San Francisco. He had left the Tony Williams Lifetime album 9n his turntable. I played it and Fred blew my mind. I remember not a single Dead tube from that night, but I remember hearing Alan for that very first time.

His music touched me from the UK album onward.....for the next 25' years I went to see him play whenever he came east...14 times in all...met him twice, once spent 10 minutes alone with him. He was kind, humble, gifted....and SO MISSED. These days I try to get my hands and ears on any concert or recorded Allan that I haven't heard...all amazing

The sad thing is/was most, but thankfully, not all, Brits would not have a clue who Allan Holdsworth was/is. Very modest, yet, unconsciously, perhaps, one gifted/irreplaceable musician who left me speechless. As a fellow Yorkshireman/musician, I can honestly say, that no one came close. Thank you for sharing your infinite legacy : )

It almost made me cry here in my work. Man, no words... Allan was fantastic. My father-in-music and biggest musical influence. There's no day that passes for me without listening to his music. It amazes me to know how he has impacted so many people from so many different countries and cultures. I'm down here, Sao Paulo - Brazil, and once again listening to the best guitarist to ever walk on this Earth. Such a humble man; such a character! Cheers.

Extraordinary musicians and artists are often described as being, "on another level"; well the level that Allan was on was so beyond the average "extraordinary musician". Such a beautiful and touching tribute to an actual genius.

HOUSTON 1985: Before his IOU set at Fitzgeralds, Allan walks in while the openning band was on. HE sat at the back by the bar. Having recognized him I asked for his autograph and welcomed him to town. We both just cringed and laughed at the squealing noise the guitarist was making. I left him alone, for a while he sat there unnoticed.. within minutes he was surrounded by fans.

It’s almost futile to justly describe Allan’s contribution to art and humanity. After thinking about it for a day, I realized, in his field, Allan’s equivalent to Michelangelo and Leonardo Di Vinci in theirs. He achieved what no other human could’ve hoped to. He changed the scale of 10. Listening to his peers on hours of interviews, I’m sure they’d agree, now, there are no 10’s. And Allan was a 12. Just beyond. I love Bill Bruford’s description, “his talent was astronomical.” I had the privilege of meeting Allan, shaking his huge hand, and thanking him for all his music (I was going to say ‘incredible music,’ but that futilely doesn’t really do him justice). Thank you, Allan. RIP.

Some of the stories man. Reminds me of the time I saw him live and he and the band were called back for an encore and Allan had to borrow a pick from an audience member in the front row.
