50 years after the publication of Rayuela, the Foundation organised a series commemorating the Argentine author’s passion for jazz. In March 1966, Cortázar attended a Thelonious Monk concert in Geneva and the great impact the musician had on him resulted in the story La vuelta al piano de Thelonious Monk (Thelonius Monk’s Return to the Piano). The jazz standard performed in this video, Epistrophy, which was composed during the 1940s although didn’t gain popularity until the 1980s, is a paradigm of modernity in jazz.
