Their Meteoric Rise is Unmatched! | U2: The Rockumentary | Bono | Inside the Music

Музыка

A cliche start: 4 teenage boys form a rock band in the drummer’s kitchen. 45 years, 14 albums, 24 concert tours, 22 Grammies. U2 raises millions to fight hunger, disease and poverty. Music transcends melody. It means mission.

MY LETTER TO U2-1987 I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono! I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage! I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations. Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year! All the Best! Gary Lagstrom

Great tribute to my favorite band. I am the same age as U2 and being half British, I connect with rock British bands and singers more than anybody else and I’ve been lucky enough to many of the greats such as The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, bastille, Sting to name a few but up until 2/24/24, my dream was to see U2 live. Well my beautiful wife surprised me with the VIP package at the Venetian and to see U2 at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Mind blowing, incredible, epic and other superlatives do not and cannot describe the experience. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to and the best weekend of my life. Bono connects with the audience like no one I’ve ever seen. Larry Mullen Jr is a machine on the drums. Adam Clayton is the glue that keeps it all together and the Edge is in a class by himself with his iconic guitar sounds and incredible background vocals and although Larry wasn’t there at the sphere, his replacement did not miss a beat. I cannot wait to see them again!

@@paulharrisonadventuregearm5457 That’s just laughably false. The entire sound was developed equally around Larry’s drums and Edge’s guitar. His riffs and fills were groundbreaking. Adam’s contribution, albeit less so, was an immensely vital part especially on the early records when their sound developed. His work on Boy, War, UF, was incredible. People who assert they’re both replaceable expose their ignorance about music. U2 would never have been U2 without Adam and Larry. Period.

I am lucky enough to live 10 minutes down the road and have seen a gazillion concerts there Red rocks is special. The acoustics are like nothing you’ll ever experience anywhere and the amphitheater only holds 9900 people so it’s a very intimate and special experience EVERY singer and band talks about how special it is to perform there and most say it’s the best venue on the planet. I didn’t live in Denver in 1984 but I’ve heard U2s performance from Red Rocks. If you’re a music lover, Red Rocks should be on everyone’s bucket list If I could go back in time to see a concert or 2, U2 at Red Rocks would be one for sure and Slane Castle in 2001 could be their best ever performance. My all time favorite song is Streets have no name and the version at Slane Castle is their best The energy in that crowd was incredible! And my god, Bono ran around the circular stage before starting the song. What an athlete!

32:40 Hi. New small fan of U2 here. What's the story behind this album cover of 'Songs of Innocence'? I immediately thought, "is Bono gay?" Or was he se*ually exploited by industry men during his early years in showbiz, since you know, he does have Hollywood good looks? This is quite common right? I hope someone knows. I'm still discovering their songs.

Here’s what their Wiki page says… The cover image of drummer Larry Mullen Jr. protectively embracing his then-18-year-old son while both are shirtless. The group thought it worked as a visual metaphor for the album and its theme of "how holding on to your own innocence is a lot harder than holding on to someone else's". Bono said, "With this record we were looking for the raw, naked and personal, to strip everything back." According to Bono, the tattoo on Mullen's upper arm is based on Native American mythology of the Pawnee tribe and is a symbol of protecting innocence.
