Well, regarding IQ tests, it's important not to take them too seriously because they only assess intelligence in logical-mathematical and verbal-linguistic domains. There are many types of intelligences, and you might excel in intrapersonal intelligence while not performing as well in logical-mathematical intelligence, and vice versa.

Yes, but they also give a sense about your g-factor which kind of sums the score as an ”ability to be smart”.

Also none of these people are taking real IQ tests. The stuff you find online is all just scams. Real IQ tests are done by psychologists and take a lot longer than 5 minutes or whatever nonsense you’ll find on google. And yes, even with real IQ tests, the ones for kids only measure reading age versus actual age. Then you have the Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale, and even that only measures very specific cognitive abilities - it does not measure creativity, divergent thinking ability, musical or other forms of talent, etc, not to mention emotional intelligence which is by far the best predictor of success. Just being able to predict numbers in a sequence or a recognize patterns is all well and good but all that is pretty irrelevant as a measure of someone’s mental capacities.

Wow my comment got deleted by youtube but anyway all of these online tests are complete scams and even the WAI scale only measures very specific things like pattern recognition. Stuff like artistic and musical ability, creativity, divergent thinking, and emotional intelligence are all far more important and far better predictors of success than counting numbers in a sequence or whatever.

An IQ test only determines how good you are at taking tests. If you take multiple you can “improv” your IQ score but not really.

online iq tests are bs for sure. The only "real" iq test that's actually the benchmark used for iq testing is the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, and costs anywhere from 1 to 2 thousand$. and is generally given to you by someone who is licensed in the field.

i do agree on the online tests - they are a bunch of bogie. BUT the real IQ tests do exist and they are certainly not BS. Yes they will only tell your score based on logical intellect and ability to connect complex structures, but they are still the best measure of intelligence that we have. But as we all know - u can have an IQ of 200 and still be the most socially awkward person in reality not able to construct a full conversation, sounding like a moron. Being intelligent is not the same as appearing smart infront of other people.

There is a difference between an online test for which example Mensa provides, and the real one. The online test is only supposed to give you a hint of what your IQ might be. Real test has less time for answers (about 30 seconds for each answer). The questions are practically the same but the environment is a lot more pressurizing.
