Theater Talk: Helen Mirren - "The Audience"

Ойын-сауық

Theater Talk welcomes actress Dame Helen Mirren, star of the "The Audience," Peter Morgan's celebrated new play about Elizabeth II and her 63 years of conversations with the Prime Ministers who have served during her reign as Queen of England. Although Dame Helen (just nominated for a 2015 Tony Award) is royalty herself, she is also down-to-earth, witty and outspoken. She shares with us a wealth of anecdotes about her prestigious theatrical career and its diverse influences, making this episode a captivating performance in and of itself.

Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in 1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins.
The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.)
The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts.

Dame Helen. Exceptional. I really enjoy Theatre Talk, but, when you see an erudite English person, you realise the differences between English and American educations.

The title National Treasure is overused but in Helen Mirren it has never been more appropriate.

She has an odd way of pronouncing her name.”Mayrun” or “Mairn” instead of “Meerun.” Which is just another adorable thing to love about her.

This interviewer comes off as very aggressive. Maybe unintentional but there it is.

Ben A I get that feeling, too. I think Susan instigated it the most.

I usually notice this amongst most modern day American interviewers. I find them lacking the 'humour' in the English. I did find a very amicable interviewer in that league, albeit, her being American - Annette Insdorf.
