@@msms5435 According to OfficialData.org, the value of the dollar lowered by 3,036% between 1897 and 2020. Which means that $80 in 1897 had the same value of about $2500 today!
@msms5435

I meant from 2016... I meant that $80 would equal 2400 dollars in 2016. I did not mean how much that would be in 2020. When I said, ‘’with that philosophy’’ I meant when Austin Lucas said, ‘’$10 in 1897 is nearly equivalent to $300 in 2016.‘’ I didn’t mean to cause any mixup. Just to be clear though, I meant that $80 in 1897 would equal $2400 in 2016. Not 2020. Also, I think you meant that the value of the dollar raised by 3,036.% You said that the value of the dollar lowered by 3,036%. That would mean that a dollar today would be worth $0.032938 in 1897. R.I.P. Dyea, Alaska. Skagway still exists, my grandma went there on a cruise with her husband back around 2006. She even saw the grave of “Soapy” Smith while on a tour of the local sites. When I asked her if she’d been to the nearby town of Dyea, she seemed perplexed. I looked it up later and found out Dyea became a ghost town in the years after the gold rush was over.

Yeah there are two money traps like that at the beginning I think it's random which choices you get but both the bike and the "gold sniffing gophers" just cost money and don't do anything. BUT both the caviar and the eggs can be sold later on in the game for decent cash

There Seems To Be No Respect For Personal Property *I FELL DOWN AND HURT MY LEG*
This was my Oregon Trail growing up in Alaska in the early 90s and not having a computer of my own. I played this at school during computer lab, and I thought it was fun learning what the best choices were for the game. Like who's the best partner, what's the best ship and ticket class, and a big one was honestly which boat design is best. I had to play multiple times to figure that one out because if you fell too many times or took too long there were consequences to that. My understanding is that it's based somewhat on actual history and trying to teach that history while also teaching about consequences for our choices. But yeah, kinda boring, but when the alternative is to just practice reading and typing....I think I'll play The Yukon Trail!
Anyone else miss this classic Moose format? I love his old intro 😍 I been watching moose for years !!!!

Yukon Trail players🤝 Aromantic people Getting harassed over their lack of a partner
I want one of these games where they talk like you when something happens. 'Oh, no, he's dying of dysentery! That's that thing where you mix up the letters in a word and think you read something else instead, right?' Yes, that is what dysentery is. And then if you choose yes, they continue with the trail, but have to stop to constantly tell you to stop eating every time you read 'Eats' on the map, or else your food will be gone by the time you reach the 'Thorn'. No, that is Dyslexia. And if you choose no, you point to a member in town and tell your partner 'Dis en Tery, Dat en Bobby, and dos en ar da Johnsons.' And then audience laughter ensues and credits roll, but it's a minigame and you have to choose which names to jump over. If you succeed, you get to stock up your rations at the craft services table.

Jolly Rogers at no time did any of that make sense
When I first played this game, I was already familiar with “The Oregon Trail” (5th Edition), but here’s how I came to enjoy this one as well in spite of having played the better game first. I had just got a tooth pulled at the dentist and my mouth was still numb from the medication. My dad felt sorry for me and so we went and bought some software games at the nearest Costco and Yukon Trail was in the pack. I was impressed with the game, but it was partly due to the numbing agent I was under. Still learned a lot about history. I picked Midas as a partner because he looked like my dad (personalities were quite different though). Good memories.
brings back some memories of plating this game in the shed, on a computer in the early 2000's. thanks.
When I think of "Skagway" I think of skags from borderlands, and I hate skags... So I hate Skagway

I am going to lie, I knew that there were this many trail games.
This is one of my very earliest memories, watching my older brother play this in our living room.
I will always love you, Trail Bike. Always.

honestly the native person is likely the best choice because of the fact that, you know, THEY ACTUALLY KNOW THE TRAIL AND THE DAMN DANGERS.
The foot joke has got to be my favorite!
WHERE'S MA PIECE OF WOOD?
This was my FAVORITE game as a kid, jfc. It was always so exciting to have a video game set in the region I grew up in. Not many games ever take place in the PNW. Oh and Skagway is a gross town. Don't ever go there.
