    I think Forbidden Memories and Reshef of Destruction are difficult for fairly different reasons. FM is difficult almost purely due to RNG. It's heavily luck-based on what cards you manage to get, as well as what cards opponents play. RoD is difficult primarily due to mechanics. Namely the duelist level limit and the fact that your Life Points don't reset after duels, with only one place in the whole game where you can restore them. FM is a lot harder to obtain cards, but once you do get them, you can use them. RoD is a lot easier to obtain cards, but you're restricted by duelist level on whether or not you can use them. Both games require heavy grinding, but FM is primarily RNG-based grind, while RoD is kinda level-based grind. You can get lucky or unlucky with FM, making things substantially faster or slower. Whereas RoD will pretty much always require the same amount of grind no matter what. Easiest way to see how they compare is looking at mods. FM's most popular mod, to the point where every other mod for it either includes it or a variation of it, is the 15 Card mod. To significantly reduce the RNG-based grind. That's all it changes. RoD's only real mod, as far as I'm aware is the 'Reshef is Actually Tolerable Now' patch. Which is a more substantial changes like increasing level-point gains, removing the weird time-wasting board check thing, and restoring LP to the usual default after duels. It makes it more like it's prequel, Sacred Cards.

    All Reshef does is waste your time, the difficulty isn't as high as people always claim it is because they confuse frustrating game design with difficulty. The fact the devs nerfed duelist/deck points and domino gain as their response to fans complaining Sacred Cards was too easy just shows the lack of respect for your time. There are some duels that are hard but the whole game is just pretending it's way harder than it really is because the grind was artificially increased by many times over.

    YFM is not difficult purely to rng only. mastering the mechanics of fusion and guardian stars, which takes a long time to master is very essential. Which means getting good . Not getting lucky . You don't have to have good cards to finish the game . In reshef, there are a lot of inherited rules of the actual game ... so it's quick to calculate the difficulty in the first 5 minutes of the game.. and can easily get around it with type advantages, which takes seconds to understand

  • @sharplosion1

    @sharplosion1

    Eh, the primary key to YFM is knowing how to make Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, which is one of the easiest fusions in the game. Knowing others are useful sure, but the most important one is also the easiest to memorize. From there, it primarily becomes about getting more materials to make Twin-Headed, as well as equip cards to power it up over the huge beatsticks. Jon_Oh's solo-type runs does show it's possible to beat with other strategies, but it still heavily relies on luck in getting either the right type cards for the deck, or the right equips and traps to beef it up, which again rely on RNG. It's why he still uses, at least I'm pretty sure he does, the 15 card mod despite not doing the 'meta speedrun strats,' how the game goes depends heavily on RNG and the grind with it. Also once you get to the point you can slap down 3000-4000+ attack beaters, only the very end of the game can stand up to you, and even then they need to play their equally high-attack cards which isn't a guarantee. Plus opponents using traps for removal is pretty infrequent and pretty easy to circumvent with bait attacks from less valuable cards The entire point of the grind for good cards because it's nigh-impossible to get over big beatsticks in YFM, your only option is to out-match it or have spell/trap removal, which also requires grind to get outside of the 1 you get in your starting deck, which won't be enough for end game. The Final 6 is so infamous even for people who know what their doing and have grinded for better decks because it's still so heavily luck-based on what cards the opponent plays, doubly so since the last few outright cheat. One duel of bad luck sends you right back to the start. In Reshef, due to the fact that you can't set down 3k beaters in one turn, it takes more set-up to get such power on the board with tributes and such. Plus there's far more and more accessible removal, both from spells/traps and monster effects. And as you said, with how the type advantage system works, not only could you beat over any enemy with a 0-attack monster of the right type, but so can your opponent, so your own big bodies aren't always guaranteed victory. Sure, you can destroy a monster of one type for free, but a opponent can just slap down another that won't be destroyed by that type, and it's a combination of deck-building and luck whether or not you got the OTHER type needed to beat that one, and so on and so on. The problem comes in is with the grind necessary to be able to USE most good cards. Enemies will gradually get better, meanwhile you lag behind because of the poorly paced Deck Point gain. If you want to be able to use anything good, it's not a matter of grinding against RNG, it's a matter of grinding to get enough points to use it at all. It's dynamic grinding vs static grinding. Both games have room for actual strategy and mechanical knowledge, but most of the time your options of strategy come down to what you've grinded for to be able to use for it.

    FM Duels are not RNG .the AI are cheaters. opponents always open with their strongest cards. FM is literally like a hard version of pokemon .but with fusions . Rng is a factor in tcg games, but Unlike reshef where you're just forced regularly to swap cards for type advantage ,once you figure it out day 1 . It's over (A literal rock paper scissor btw.) in FM, even the best speedruners can lose because the game literally forbids you from having powerful cards . And grinding is not forced , there's always alternative ways .. the game encourages you to figure out fusions more than grinding .but sure, taking the grinding route is a guaranteed route, as in any other game.

    I double dare you to finish a Reshef of Destruction run without cheating or looking up card codes, until the final boss. I have finished a Reshef of Destruction run on my GBA back in the day and it was brutal to say the least. The final boss was the only reason, that i looked up a single, very specific card code, just to stand a chance. I don't blame people for cheating to skip the massive grind, that require 500+ duels, only to a few good cards in the deck. A casual run, without cheating and looking up card codes, will require a lot more time, then "just" 3 days.

    The "just" 3 days it takes to 100% FM is all of game time in very optimized routes that just pray you get the 1% drop after the 1% drop to decrease the grind from weeks to 3 days. When you don't get the luck the run can go on forever so runners just give up and start over. It's a completely different comparison to Reshef, where you're not speedrunning the game. That way you will grind here and there for weeks maybe months just to increase your duelist level, deck capacity and be able to afford some cards because all those things were nerfed out of spite. It's such a ludicrous comparison.

    I consider your previous video one of the top 2 ever made on the game so im eager to see this one! I'd say that one of the things to makes Reshef so hard is the absurd prices and grind to get out of the starting deck. (The field check system is the worst though). I don't have the endgame experience on vanilla for both of them, but I feel Reshef has a lot more broken atrategies available to the player (Notably Vampire Lord and Dark Flare Knight completely body most of the midgame). The thing is that Forbidden Memories is a lot more fun to grind in a casual setting. Reshef's awful starting deck will often just completely fold to a single mountain warrior from Joey. IMO Reshef starts harder, but once the A-tech grind becomes necessary FoR takes it. Also... Seriously! 100%!?!? Utterly insane, I've seen those drop rates. Kudos and condolences to anyone who attempts it.

    according to the rules of the category: "Real time is irrelevant. Since the run is segmented, pausing the timer is allowed. If so, timers are to be paused once "Save Complete" shows on the screen and resume once "Load Complete" is cleared from the screen. You may load the file in-between segments to gather information, but must exit the file without saving."

    To add to the other comment, other multi-day speedruns will have different rules. Some allow you to take a certain number of breaks of certain lengths without that time counting. In others, they do do the entire thing in a single segment and the game just sits there not being played for several hours. I think that mostly happens in runs where you need to get an achievement for playing for a long amount of time though.

I play this a couple hours each day and right now trying to get my last metalzoa. Got the first one in only 100ish duels, 2nd around the 300 mark and still working on the 3rd which is being very stubborn and am at 711 now and its been a over a month now. I know 3 copies of 1 card doesn't mean its like that for all cards but metalzoa's drop rate is the same as several of the other cards so getting even one of all them could easily take this long

    I know nothing about RoD so I can't advocate for or against its difficulty, but FMR has his difficulty due to 3 things. First being the RNG with the opponents being skewed towards the player's downfall, especially during the Final 6's non-stop duels, the card drop table keeping the low level cards throughout all duelist where they could've just removed them from the more powerful foes to make it worth your time rematching the stronger ones, and the biggest kick in the nuts to all non-japanese players is the removal of the PocketStation features in the international releases, making a big bunch of cards impossible to obtain as a stand alone card without using cheats or save modding. The PocketStation part basically removed access to IR cards, communication fusion (aka ritual summoning cards outside of duels in order to permanently obtain the targeted card, like 3 Blue-eyes white dragon and the Ultimate dragon ritual (yes, it's cursed knowledge), from the first Pocket to the Second Pocket, creates a copy of Blue-eyes Ultimate dragon (spending the former cards) that you can directly put into the deck.

    Reshef is still harder because jusy for a casual run through can from 1 hour to beat the game to 4 and a half years dependant on RNG, you ate given the same deck. Have to deal with duelist level. And every single card costs litterally thousands to hunreds of thousands of dollars of in game currentcy. If that isnt bad enough. Your life points do not reset fter every duel. And start to finish everyone has a god tier level deck in comparison. Combine that with duel gauntlets that hapoen between 4 to 20 duelists in a row, and the final stretch being a gauntlet of 5 with each one having no less than 12000 LP, end boss having a 67.75% chance to FTK you and having 40,000 LP. If a game can have one small facet of rng based collection but an easy actual main part of the game, I would not consider that game to be harder to BEAT than one that actually has a long main story that takes extensive planning to get to the ending.
