nice alternative to the Model Y. They really intended the suspension to be softer considering the car elevation and thicker tires vs the Y. The rear slope looks heavy and bulky for more headroom and likely more cargo.

Their battery pack design is an inch lower than most EV like Tesla. A good 2in/3cm lower than NIO’s battery swap base. Very comfy leg space. This has more interior room than some large SUVs.

The range and efficiency on this will be insane. They haven’t announced official numbers. Some reviewers are noticing 13kwh/100km in mixed use, sports version not long range, ADAS and heavy cooling on. The long range will probably beat Model 3 LR efficiency. And 150km more range than Y of same battery size. 800V SiC tech.

Very astute remark about the G6. One KWH less and one torque less than the Y. Coincidence - no - It can do .2sec less to 100km/hr (apologies if I’m paraphrasing) - to me that says the Chinese designers were told to make a car that on paper is slightly better - hence KWH and torque figures are just one more. Or else the real figures are roughly same or less so the marketing people state one more to make it look good for those who only look at the numbers. The lower acceleration time - always varies according to real world conditions and tyres - well - clearly they made a very good clone of the Y but didn’t make it quite as good! The G6 looks pretty good; but it’s a Chinese copy of a Y. It just is.

@@ideallogic I don't think the western journalists even bothered to do serious range testing at all actually. I've wasted many a hour watching Tom Peng's channel. He is a Canadian business man who lives in Vietnam and has purchased every Vinfast EV ever released and range tested them all. And he is living in tropical Vietnam stuck in HCMC traffic, which means 80 degree temps and 30-40 kph average speeds. You can't get better conditions than that in terms of EV range, and without fail he gets HORRIBLE range results in every single car he's tested. For instance the best result he could wring out of his VF8, in eco mode, at 60 kph, at night in nice mild weather, was 340 km, and his VF8 had 88 kWh of usable battery capacity. His VF9 with 92 kWh battery capacity only managed 250 km of range on a full charge. And his VF5, which is a tiny light car, with a 37 kWh usable capacity, could only get 190 km. Which is crazy bad, because the big battery BYD Seagull with a 40 kWh pack will almost certainly do 400 km if driven in those same conditions. Vinfast is woefully behind on the tech side of EVs right now. All of their cars, big or small, have extremely poor efficiency. And that's not even considering their software issues, suspension damping issues (multiple western media reporters independently reporting motion sickness from riding in the VF8), build quality issues, as well as random bricking issues and occasional extreme phantom battery drain issues. Peng's VF9 only had 200 km on the odo, and the rear air suspension was already collapsed!

Despite the negative assertions that many commenters say against Tesla, Tesla will remain the one to beat for the foreseeable future. XPeng really has to lean into marketing against ICE vehicles (70% of China market, and higher when including hybrids). I think that this is a key reason why their sales have been languishing for far too long. They keep marketing against other EVs, particularly Tesla. The strategy is clearly not working. The P5, G3, and even the newer G9 don’t even seem like they exist. Failed models. G6 is their last chance to turn things around. If they do not market it correctly, then it’s over.

VW and Tesla are ordinary brands like the others, If you buy a VW means that you think if a company had a good quality 50 years ago means that they have same quality today and if you buy a Tesla means you are some of those Musk fans that think he is superhero, If somebody want to buy a car that shows some personality they will buy brands like Ferrari or Rolls Royce. Chinese cars was rubbish 5 years ago but now they are going up in quality and technology like rocket, I tested a BMW X1 last week and than tested a Jetour days after. I never heard of that brand before and I guess nobody heard of it except Chinese guys. quality was 90% same as BMW X1 and driving quality was even better than a BMW!! I won`t buy either of those SUVs but was shocked that why somebody should buy a BMW and pays way much more money and deal with BMW mechanical electrical issues just for having a BMW badge on the hood.
