I still use two Haswell systems, a Xeon E3-1285L v3 (CPU-Z 364.8/1821) with an RTX-2060-Super and a Xeon 1265L v3 (352.6/1648.5) with a GTX-1660-Super. Their performance after a decade is unbelievable. Good performance and low heat output, they always run at their boost clocks. Socket 1150 still has a few years of fun in it. I use an E3 1275L V3. Really is an excellent CPU. Not as fast single or multi-core as the modern desktop units, but it runs on much less power and with 4 cores/8threads, it’s very usable.

I like that he knows the definition of budget, unlike other youtubers

Great vid! Have you tried running breath of the wild in CEMU? Getting oddly low 15-28fps on my rig but similar builds with a 4770 are getting 60fps+

thanks on this sir! i am still using 1241v3 paired with 580 4G and 16gb of Ram... apart from the gpu being hot while gaming my current system can handle my games on a 1080p monitor...

@@ProYamYamPC yes, its enough for 99,8% of the people for daily tasks and casual gaming, and is cheap to buy and upgrade i3 and i5 4xxx that usually costs the same or more than him (it's crazy) :D

My kid actually has this very CPU in his "Goodwill only build" lol, I found one and a mainboard at goodwill and put myself to the task of building a pc with just parts I found there and at other locations.

I've got the Broadwell version, E3-1285 V4, same clocks, but 14nm and L4 cache. Still holds up well.

Broadwell is often overlooked. Mainly because Intel never released any consumer Broadwell chips on desktop. Which games are you playing?

@@ProYamYamPC They did: i5-5675c and i7-5775c. I first had the i5, then saw a Xeon E3-1285L V4 used for a reasonable price and used that for a couple of years. The L-version has a lower TDP and 3.4GHz base clock, Turbo 3.8. Recently i bought the non-L version with 3.5/3.8GHz and the L-version lives on in a gaming PC for my son. I play shooters, racing games, but also many older games. Graphics card is a 1080ti. Of course I cannot max out at 4K, but 1080p/60 at very high details runs fine (except Starfield, there you have to play at 30fps).

You can also get the E3-1271 V3. It is the equivalent of the i7-4790, and can be had for $25 USD. If your platform is compatible, this is possibly the best bang for the buck.

I think in the UK, the 1271 is around £5-10 more expensive. Might be worth the extra money for the extra performance.

do you reccomend this cpu with gtx `1060 6gb for 300euros ? I MOStly play cs go at 144hz

Does my h81 motherboard need to update bios to use this cpu ?

Nice review! Upgraded to this cpu half a year ago for about 35 bucks. It's doing a great job so far. Might replace it with a ryzen 3000 or 5000 series in a few years. At that point I'd look into 5900x or 3950X instead of the X3D, since I don't play games anymore and I'd rather have more cores.

I used to have the 3950X before my 13700K and it was an excellent CPU. To be fair, when the time comes, I'd probably recommend the 5950X for the extra performance.

Have a look at the E3 1270v3 if you can get it at a decent price 👍 Ive been using these 1240v3 in budget Optiplex gaming builds for years. There used to be a big difference in price between these and the 4770/4790.

The refresh (1 at the end) incresed clock speeds by 100mhz over the orignal chips. Essentially moving them up a sku. The 1271v3 would be marginaly faster because of this. There is so little seperation between the haswell xeons it's amazing they made so many skus. (5/6 at the end are gpu included and gpu refresh).

Amazing testing! Coincidentally, I have a band new motherboard with this Socket and I'd like building a cool platform with exactly this processor. This is really helpful!! 😎👌👌👌 Is the RX 6600 Ok for this platform?? I don't use to play the most demanding games. Greetings from Germany!!

I probably wouldn't recommend the 6600 with this, it will work, but it isn't optimal. I would recommend a GPU like GTX 1080, a little older, but it will be a great GPU for this platform. Or even the Vega 56 which I tested with in the video!

Been surprised how well 1150 CPU's still perform earlier this year. Also there's even boards with 1 M.2 slot. If it's worth getting over a Ryzen 1k or 2k build depends a lot on how tight the buget is and a bit luck on available RAM and Board too.

You can usually find mobo bundles on eBay going for about £40/$50. Replace the i3/i5 with an i7 or this Xeon, and you're onto a winner!

recently bought a [B85 board + 16GB 1600mhz] for 10€ and then a 1270v3 for 15€. The board still had an old bios with missing the microcode update that permits multi core enhancements. so i was able to flash the bios to the earliest version which still had the multicore enhancement option. With that option the 1270v3 runs all core on 3.9GHz (which normaly only boosts in single core loads) instead of 3.7. great performance

they're starting at $200 in the US right now???

I am running a 1680v2, which is the only 8-core chip on x79. It is fully unlocked and overclocks to 4.5 or 4.6 GHz, depending on silicon quality. Besides +2 cores and +4 threads it also has more l3 cache than the 6-core top of the line i7s of the time. With the right memory in quad channel, it is still a great cpu in 2023.

I bet it is. I have an X79 Xeon too. It only has 4 cores and 8 threads but it is still a good chip.

It's 3.6 base 4.0 turbo clock. I love mine

I snagged an old CAD computer from my work with this processor to use as my home computer. I don't do any gaming. Should be good.

Just bought the E3 1270 V3 for 30€ to upgrade an i5 4460 the other day, let's see how it performs when it arrives

Bought a 1270 v3 a year ago and pair it with 1660 super. It’s running pretty good. The only problem is running apex legends. The game itself runs good but first 10 minutes in the menu it’s freezing like crazy. I think the issue that I stuck with 1600mhz ram speed

I just bought one of these for $18. It supposedly outperforms the i7 4790. Mine seems to do fine in gaming.

You will be losing out on some performance, particually at 1080p. But it should be mostly ok

This was the cpu in my first machine because I wanted something with hyperthreading but the 4770 was to expensive at the time so I looked up compatible lga 1150 cpus and I found this and it looked like it was very close in performance to the 4770 so I bought it and when I started to use it it was a killer chip

It's a slightly better chip for the most part, you won't really need the iGPU for a gaming machine, and it also has a better TIM than the i7 4770 too.

OK. Just go to bios and set cpu per core not all cores. Then put frequency to 3.90 in cores if is the upper limit. Then do the test again..............

me using E3 1230v2 still enough ffor light gaming nowdays (because i did not have any powerful gpu)
