The Worst Week for Teaching | Teacher Vlog

Y'all it was an insane week at my school. Between snow days, holidays, an eye issue and a valve problem I'm not sure this week even counted. I can say that it certainly is hard to get in the groove when so many things keep knocking you down.

Same kind of week...Tues- Thursday was snow/ice days. Then a pipe busted Thursday so wasn’t sure about Friday. They got ours fixed though and so we had school Friday ... however, we had to share bathrooms with the younger elementary kids because it took a little time to get their bathrooms going again. We also don’t have to make up days because we assign Google Classroom Work and packets ... so AMI days 1-3 was used . (alternative method of instruction- we get 5 a year before we have to start making them up). SO Friday was spent going over those assignments... seeing how everything went and where our technology struggles were... just a crazy week for sure!!!

in Canada or in my school district at least, snow days mean that transport (yellow buses, minivans) is cancelled. however, the school is still open and teachers show up and teach the very few students who show up.

Last week I taught a math lesson where my 1st graders looked at me as if I was speaking another language. How do you keep from getting devistated or being too hard on yourself when this happens?

  • @BridgingLiteracy

+Miss Taylor it's going to happen. It happens to me! The important thing is that you throw everything out the window and use it as a "teaching moment." Reflect on the lesson, this will be what makes you into a great teacher! You got this! Don't stress out about failures, learn from them and move on. 😘

  • @BridgingLiteracy

+Miss Taylor A DRA is a sort of running record. You may be familiar with reading levels. There are letter levels, Lexie levels and there are DRA levels. For the DRA, we administer a running record and then give the comprehension piece to determine what reading level the student is at independently.

I know I'm late to the messages, and you may have answered this already, but... as far as your sore eye goes, I found out a few months ago that I had "allergic conjunctivitis". My "conjunctiva" in my eye was still inflamed, but it wasn't contagious, just a reaction to my allergies. Not sure if this is what you might have, but it looked VERY similar. My eye got SO red. Just thought I'd mention this before I finished watching and forgot. Hope all is better by the time you get this.

The Lettered Classroom the only downside is that we have to put together 4 days worth of packets! But the principal said to space them out, so I’ve been working on that on the snow days! But it was very nice to spend time with my kids and go sledding! 😀 I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m actually happy for Monday because I love teaching and it’s been so long and on Monday I mad pretty easy for them since their just coming back it’s mostly just review stuff! Also there’s this one company called stampin up! And they sell things to make cards and I am very in to that so I got my box from them and sold some and made some for school!😀

As a student teacher, there are students who choose not to look at me like one the teachers and instead, as a friend. I like establishing close, supportive, and warm relationships with my students, but I feel like the respect is thrown out the window even when I 'scold' the students. Some completely refuse to listen to me at all! When you were student teaching, did you experience this? How can I combat this?

I'm confused what classroom capers "who stole the pillow?" has anything to do with MLK and teaching tolerance? I'm actually a huge fan of your vlogs but a little disappointed by the fluff MLK activity. Just a reminder that TPT is just that and it doesn't mean that everything on there is great for kids. Happy teaching anyways. 😊

I See my comment was ignored but I just wanted to shed light on the fact that during these crazy times in our country, it's almost unacceptable to not use MLK as the perfect opportunity to instill the values of acceptance, tolerance and love in our children. If not us, then who?

The students get the clues for “who done it” by going through a variety of activities about MLK and his life/values. I did a similar activity with a student for math where they would solve different problems and it would give them clues for a riddle. So from my viewpoint, it isn’t fluff, but rather a way to get students engaged. The fun “who done it” part just draws their attention to the real meaning of the activity, learning about MLK!
