The worst scam on the Internet?

Could this be the worst scam on the Internet? These scammers will drain their victims' bank accounts! How do they do this?
I've been watching the scams of Webzant IT Solution Private Limited, of Kolkata, India fool their victims into thinking that they are the police and they need the victim's help to catch a 'hacker' in their bank. This is a video guide to why their scams are so serious.
The company's website: webzant.com/ [This was taken down within 1 hour of this video upload... a sure sign of innocence.]

Scammers (with heavy Indian accents while pretending to be UK police): Telling the victim to take photos of their passport, drivers license, to give them access to their computer, to give them access to their smartphone... Jim (native English speaker): Tells the victim that they are being scammed. Doesn't ask them to do anything. Clueless victim: I don't know who to trust!!!!! Seriously?

Pretty understandable, scammers use what is called "poisoning the well". They warn the victim of people who will tell them things that go against the scammers' narrative, tell them that these people are a russian hacker called 4chan or whatever, and not to trust them. Thereby they make their victims form an opinion on Jim before they even hear him, which makes his task way harder. It's a well known propaganda tool, and definitely worth looking into.

That old saying, "It's easier to fool someone than it is to convince them they've been fooled" comes to mind. Even when the scammer raised her voice and became berating and abusive toward the victim for talking to the man trying to warn her, the victim didn't want to see she was trusting exactly the wrong people.

I have seen this so much on that catfishing scam, the guy was scammed out of 50k+. The catfishing site showed the guy exactly how they scammed him. The next day he talks to the scammers again and told his so called “girlfriend” that they proved to him that the photos they have sent where stolen and the real girl was on the show saying she never spoke to the man. The scammer said, “That was me, I was on the call with all you guys, I had to say I did not know you because we are not allowed to have a boyfriend why modeling. “ and he believed the scammer. Like you say it’s easier to fool someone than to convince them they are being scammed.

Because in order to convince someone theyve been fooled, that person would have to consider the idea that they might be foolish. Im not saying getting fooled means youre foolish, it can feel that way. You may just be ignorant of certain things. And thats ok. But i can understand why people would be scared of feeling foolish and start getting defensive. I spent 6 years as a care taker for my grandma until she died at 99. Its not just dimentia that makes the elderly prime victims for scammers. And its not that theyre gullible. They can be very distrustful. Its the embarassment about being forgetful and confused. The fear of being a burden or looking foolish if they ask for help or ask too many questions or accuse the scammer of trying to pull one over on them. If you tell them theyre being scammed it can be really hard for them to come to terms with the idea that they *can* be fooled. It can make them feel like maybe they arent capable of taking care of themselves. And thats a very scary thing to confront in yourself. Just try convincing a senior citizen to get rid of their drivers license.

Exactly. It's like the scam "collection agencies" here in the US that call and tell you there is a warrant for your arrest and you have to pay them money on a Green Dot card to keep from being arrested. I wish folks would stop and think for a moment. If the cops have a warrant for your arrest, the last thing they're going to do is call you and let you know they're coming. In real life, they just suddenly show up and arrest you. That's the whole point.

Call centers are so common in India, because of lack of real jobs, and overpopulated cities. That’s why most call centers are in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and even sometimes Jaipur. Smaller cities don’t have as many because they are managed better than say Delhi. India is a really cool country but scam call centers are sprinkled all over the country. Hopefully this epidemic of call centers will deteriorate with the help of scambaiters, and then police.

@Janet Holmes. I wouldn't rely on that, because they are using Americans as well. And there are American scammers that have been operating for many years before the Indians started doing. I remember a case where a man became a multimillionare, and his scam was sophisticated but he would show up to people's houses to collect the money. He would target elderly, especially women who lived alone). But eventually he was captured by law enforcement. It is too easy now to figure out people's age online, so they can specifically target elderly people.

@@michapaananen8522 Uhh no. There's literally another of Jims videos where he found a list on a scammers computer showing the scam companies recent victims. As Jim said, the average age of the victims WAS 78. 78! On the file list you see the date of births of the victims and its a bunch of 1940s and 1950s for their year of birth. The vast majority of the victims of these tech and IRS scams are the elderly. You just either lied or you misunderstood something you read. Either way you said something completely wrong. Lonely over 60s are the main victims of these scams.

people are honestly wanting to be scammed at some point. How many times does your bank have to tell you they will never ask for your password, PIN, etc, and you just give it out to people instead. Why do people pick up their phone when it's someone they don't know calling? Why do they fall for all of this? Seriously she spent 5 hours on the phone with them and never thought to ask any family or friends she knew in real life? "Don't tell your bank" is the same thing as a kid. If you're in the park and a stranger says "don't tell your parents"... it's a pretty good bet you need to tell your parents right freaking now.

I've received a few calls similar to this so I actually choose to speak to a person and ask them straight out how stupid do they think I am. This works quite well with scammers who claim that they are Amazon (I check my account regularly, or the IRS or the SSA and I ask them if they are aware that these agencies will never call a person as the first point of contact and will always send correspondence via mail. Also, in regards to the SSA, they won't even reach out to me. Instead they will reach out to my aunt as I receive social security disability benefits and my aunt is my payee so everything goes to her. I will never give them any info. In fact, just last night I received a message from "Netflix" saying that my (non existing) account's payment method is not working and I needed to use a link that if looked at quickly resembles the Netflix web address, but it is doesn't have the correct correct spelling of Netflix. So, I sent them back a message informing them that I don't even have a Netflix account (I don't, I share my aunt's account) and that I know that they are scammers and can go fuck themselves.
