@@Snowcat-rg7bz Come to think of it, here in Canada, the federal government created the “Arrivecan” app that was a $53 million boondoggle costing an order of magnitude more than it should have and was full of embarrassing bugs sending thousands of vaccinated off to quarantine by mistake. They also created the Phoenix pay system that for years has been failing to pay civil servants correctly. Under Trudeau, a national emergency is a bunch of trucks honking their horns in front of the Parliament Buildings, they can’t issue passports in a timely manner and they can’t balance the budget. All the while having absolutely no real world experience whatsoever. Bunch of high minded, useful idiots, living in an "intellectual" bubble. They have pushed this ideology with no consequence, or objective push back. I will say this as a plain old high school graduate. You cannot piss on my boot and tell me it is raining. The ONLY way the Marxist/Communist regimes have ever been able to survive is by brute force. They establish power by promising utopia. Then they squash all who oppose while EVERYONE becomes poor and dependent on government. It is not hard to see this.

I remember Soviet communists also called themselves "progressive humanity" and preached " liberty, equality and brotherhood", they were accusing the west of exploitation of working people but I don't know the country that would exploit working people worse than soviets themselves. They blamed western way of life yet at the same time "the Party" tops preferred western luxury goods. Lenin didn't choose to live in a barrack like ordinary workers, he reserved nice and stylishly furnished mention. When AOC instead of a buying Ford focus, buys a Tesla I kind of get it.

I studied Marxism for a semester at a California university back in 1991. On paper, It all sounded good to me. I never thought much about it throughout my adult life until I joined an Occupy group in 2011. My eyes were quickly opened. Within the first-week individuals were fighting for power. Our group camped in a public park. Most of the members chose to sit around and smoke weed and drink alcohol. They were supposed to be carrying signs protesting whatever (I cannot remember what their grievance was) But carrying signs was too much work for them, instead, they expected the members who had jobs to give (the lazy ones) food and whatever else they wanted. About a month later a few members demanded the money the group collected from people dumb enough to contribute be available to the group. Before that only 2 people knew where the money was so it would be safe. Within 3 days all the money was stolen. What a surprise! That was enough for me. Marxism, socialism, and progressive ideology are all communism! I say no to all of it!

PRAISE TO A TEACHER (The sixth and final year at the "Prince of Wales" boarding school, Nairobi, Kenya. Year 1957) We waited for our "Literature" teacher at class time. When he finally arrived, he apologized for being late and he said he was in a meeting to explain a new idea of his. He told us that he had decided to stop teaching us the usual texts. We were left speechless! To our perplexities, instead of giving explanations, he asked two questions ... At the rows to his right, he asked which of us knew Karl Marx ……. after the surprise, one asked where this person lived. At the rows to his left, he asked who knew Adam Smith …... one immediately asked if this guy was English or American. Rubbing his chin, he just said "oh!" Then he went on to tell us that he understood of our ignorance, despite of our intelligence. He pointed out that by the end of the year, many of us would be going to university or other destinations, and we knew very little about the current situation in the world. (For example, that in the previous year there was an invasion of Budapest by Russian tanks.) "My job will be to teach you how to learn on your own, and I will follow you throughout the term." Then, pointing his finger at me, he said "John*, you will be the coordinator of your half and you will go to the library to research all about Karl Marx." Pointing his finger at Bill* on the left, he told him, that he will be the coordinator of the other half to research all about Adam Smith. Every week we should notify him about our results or problems. In the fifth week, he checked if we had enough knowledge to present what we had found, and with our positive response, a new surprise arrived. "You will have to convince the other group of the validity of what is proposed in YOUR research, compared to the OTHER." I therefore asked him the question ... "How can we compare our research vs theirs if we don't know what the other is proposing?" He just replied ... "John, you're on the right track, get busy, and let me know when you are ready!" Our group, after another four weeks, advised that we were ready, while the other asked for the following week. (If they had spent that week to find the negative points proposed by K.M. (as we did for A.S.) the result would have certainly changed. Updated 2019) ( Privately, I asked the teacher why he had chosen ME to propose Karl Marx, since after studying both ideas, I preferred those of Adam Smith. His reply was that he expected this of me, because I always used logic and not emotions as many do, and wished me not to change in the future. But we also learned from this teacher that one should always be open to listening to all the points made by others, and only then evaluate. )

Listening to that clip separated from the whole video, gave it a more powerful impact as not processing all the information in one sitting. Tom's casual analyses of Marx, the character of the generations of leftists following, the example of the Occupy movement, bring home not only Tom's brilliance, but also the bankruptcy of the Communist/Socialist movements themselves. Not mention; the abject failure of Socialism in over 40 countries - and much worse - the multi-millions of deaths attributed to Communist governments. And, the death toll continues to rise in these modern times - China - Russia - North Korea - need I say more? Finally: TSTV you have done well in your choice of clips but also in the titles. Never click-bait, always tied to the substance and a way that garners interest - at least in my opinion. Thx guys

I found it interesting that Mr Sowell quoted Karl Marx describing himself as “God like”. Do not socialise replace God with their own ego?

Albeit I deeply admire Dr. Sowell, sadly i only hear lots of talk, mostly critique. Please consider leaving a legacy to AMERICAN children. A book or curriculum on citizenship, economics, etc.. 🤔

Three main issues 1. Marx is often interpreted in a state of dispair and poverty. This can lead seeing the world from a victim mindset or from shallow view on justice 2. Marx is rarely understandable if you have no education in economics. I understood the Kapital very well as an economist and was flubbergasted what for a kind of crap other ppl made out of the very same book I read 3. Marx never made a statement how a new economy or society should be built he just hinted that the commune of Paris is promising 4. Additionally like Sowell said Marx was just a men a flawed men and no God or light figure for petite bourgeoise offspring who wants to rebell. I guess if Marx would have known the abominations ppl would develop on the base of his work he would have reformulate them.

I love Thomas Sowell's insight, but he doesn't seem to cite anything as "the worst opinion I ever held". I guess it's supposed to be Marxism, but a more valid headline would be something like "Marx Was Just A Man". I mean there are all sorts of opinions within Marxism, and Thomas does not seem to discuss a simple opinion, rather a studentship of Marxism. When I click on a link that says "The worst opinion I ever held", I guess I'd like to hear exactly what and why Thomas thinks something is so bad an opinion.

That was my thought - he says "working in government and seeing how poorly it was run cured me of my marxism", which it's like, ok so the existence of a poorly managed government office somehow debunks all of marxist doctrine? Labor theory of value, dialectical materialism, all gone in a flash because some public sector workers are bad at their jobs? No explanation or qualification for these statements whatsoever... very weird lol

@Thomas SowellTV Orwell said similar things about his own “comrades” and fellow organizers in Great Britain’s Marxist movement- that they were a bunch of rich and elitist brats. He also noted that they spoke all that rot about “the proletariat”, but that when it came right down to it, they despised working class people. What do y’all think about Antony C. Sutton and others proof that Marx was in fact the then patriarch of the Ratschild family’s third cousin; and that he and Engles were actually hired and paid by him via his World zionist Congress to write their pamphlets and manifestos? In my opinion that really puts one in the eye of these Anti-Fa and BLM activists. We all know the horrible things that Johnson said when he implemented welfare, and his having malicious intent behind it, directed at the Black community. But that aside, would you reckon that could be yet another one of the reasonings behind the Welfare State and Universal Basic Income is just that: to find a way to broaden the base of Marxists to the rest of the population; rather than the elitists needing to rely solely upon rich intellectuals and college students alone to force us into their New World Order and enslave humanity? Cheers; and love the videos wether y’all are associated with Dr. Sowell, or not. Truly appreciate it.
