Mw2012 wasn't supposed to be a "burnout" clone. Early versions of the game were actually closer to Mw05 and was going to follow up from carbon. Unfortunately the game ended up being the game that we got due to being rushed out because of a strict deadline, or Ea toning it down to appeal to a younger audience? No one really knows why.

That was the worst decision they've made. Big part of Burnout is mayhem and great damage model as you see cars getting crushed and fall apart on impact. It can't be replicated in a game with licensed cars, damage model sucks. Having to watch a boring cutscene when my bumper cracks a little bit after head on collision at 300kph was so annoying I couldn't finish the game.

Not exactly the worst NFS game at all. This game is just like Burnout Paradise, so it's much enjoyable to finish the events and Most Wanted races, obtain cars and engage the pursuit, while others will be kind of boring, such as the Speed Points used for the player's total score instead of currency, no safehouses or tuning shops, annoying multiplayer events and crash camera.

Right @ 5:46. I'm a huge Need For Speed fan-I'm even collecting scale diecast that match the cars from the first several games-but for me the brand wasn't about street race culture or customization, and they never had stories; NFS was about racing factory supercars and concept cars in awesome locales across the world, set to a 90s psytrance original score, not licensed pop music. Its tone was more Top Gear special, than Fast and Furious movie. I miss it
@randomstormtrooper3345

I really miss the focus that the old games had on the cars, like with the showcases, cockpit view and stuff. It's a shame that anything that came before and a bit after UG/MW2005 is kinda ignored. Also, that Lotus Esprit v8 theme is such a banger
@randomstormtrooper3345 Жыл бұрын
As half-baked as the game is, i really enjoyed just cruising around the open world, you got the longass highways from the classic NFS games mixed with cities from the UG era, and the game encourages the player to go and explore with all the crazy stunts you can pull, cars to find and maybe mess with the police (very fun if you have a mod that makes them more persistent). Also, can you do a video on NFS Rivals? (um salve de Goiânia btw)

In my head-canon the protagonist in Most Wanted 2012 is Zephyr (The racers' protagonist from NFS Rivals) who lost the plot and now dreams of supercars standing around in the open for the taking, these whacky cutschenes and the Most Wanted as a concept. (He despises Ryan Cooper, who destroyed street racing in Rockport and Palmont with his Blacklist-climbing and Territory-claiming antics). Also he hates the cops, so he dreams of outsmarting them with self-reinflating tires, bodyshops that repair cars in a flash and paint shops that chang a car's appearance in a flash. That also explains why there are no consequences for being busted. It's all in Zephyr's head.

(5:02) this is the perfect explanation why this game is so hated. It is great overall, but just because they called it Most Wanted, people hate it. Honestly, this makes me mad. Also, 5:56 the real NFS formula is just driving exotic/very appreciated cars in fast paced races. Just and only that. So, throwing this concept in Burnout's physics and an open world is an actual upgrade over the true essence of Need For Speed. Actually every game that makes something about the original formula better WILL be an upgrade, so i think none of this games built in the original formula will be worse than the original concept but stil... And, don't get me wrong, this is technically worse than Paradise and other Burnout and even NFS games, but still far from being as bad as people think it is

I ended up having an epiphany on why this game was called Most Wanted. This game was the first to introduce Speedwalls in the open world, and as such, further deepen the integration of Autolog and embolden the desire to hunt your friends. The whole idea of being "Most Wanted" in Fairhaven was being better than your friends. It's basically a competition between your friends, which was ultimately the downfall of this game, as most people who played probably don't bother filling their friends list with their actual IRL friends, so it becomes more or less a glorified Burnout.

Need For Speed 2012 was a joke. It was a incredibly uninspired game which had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. That said, the Beta version of this game was actually far more incredible and was supposed to be a sequel to the 2005 game. It was called Need For Speed Most Wanted 2. In that game, you have to complete a series of insane challenges set by a kidnapper who kidnaps Mia. Meanwhile, you are considered the Rockport fugitive that is also "Most Wanted". The pursuits with cops are all or nothing affairs that could ruin you in more ways than one, and it's also intense. The cop AI was ruthless and wanted you to pay for any chase. They set up roadblocks, cleared the roads for public safety, and would even act like a real police force. Like in carbon, you can upgrade your cars in your safe house; that is unless it becomes compromised, and you have to flee from it. Unfortunately, the only thing we have to show this prototype existed was the gameplay was available is those two trailers....

You do lightly mention it but this game was going to be a direct sequel, there is footage of the build going back to November 2011 build. Criterion needed more time but when EA execs saw it they asked it to be done by E3. This led to them messing around in January-May of 2012 with UI and story elements before EA demanded they removed this story and kept some of the gameplay for DLC. Then DICE and Bioware cleaned it up, Criterion worked on the E3 trailer and ended up cutting the Hummer that was literally shown in the Czech Republic trailer for the game. The game is entirely EAs fault. If EA didn't force a deadline on Criterion they could have had the next best seller in the franchise but nope.

I think the way you unlock different parts of the map best illustrates why the 2005 Most Wanted is better than the 2012 one. In 2005 MW, you start with some parts of the map blocked off and unlock them by progressing through the career mode. In 2012 MW, some parts of the map are blocked off and you have to buy DLC to unlock them. As you said in the video, the 2012 version was kind of a microtransaction-filled pay-to-win cashgrab, even if the core gameplay itself can be fun.

I miss it

I really miss the focus that the old games had on the cars, like with the showcases, cockpit view and stuff. It's a shame that anything that came before and a bit after UG/MW2005 is kinda ignored. Also, that Lotus Esprit v8 theme is such a banger

I really like NFS Most Wanted 2012, it's not Most Wanted but it's fun and has an amazing soundtrack.
It used to be Most Wanted 2 and to be released in 2017, but EA didn't give them enough time, they wanted to release it in 2012. So Criterion recreated the game design from 0 and turned it into Burnout Fairhaven.
I've played this game around 2017 (way past the time it came) and I've really enjoyed the game, I wasn't able to finish and i didn't had any of the DLC cars appearing on the map because i was playing offline, but i remember being quite a fun game in it's own merit, the biggest problem is like you've said, this game shouldn't be called most wanted and the progression system of having all the cars from the get go was definitely not the best choice. HELL YEAH
And, don't get me wrong, this is technically worse than Paradise and other Burnout and even NFS games, but still far from being as bad as people think it is
I enjoyed this game back in the day. I know I’ve stated this many times, but the cut content made me never look at MW 2012 the same way ever again. This is a good game, IMO. It shouldn’t be called “Most Wanted” if it had little/ nothing to do with the OG legend.
I just loved the way your picture was up on the billboards you held the record for. Like your actual face. Brilliant.
The world record runs for this game are insane. Incredible how you can drive the whole map in under 3 minutes.
Honestly, as a standalone racing game, I love it now and I loved it when I was a kid, the intro song hyped me so much!
MW 2012 Multiplayer was so fun in private matches. Having 8-16 of your friends racing was the best fun I had with multiplayer
I miss the old blue tag model
This was my first NFS game. It wasnt really that bad, I have over 400 hours on the game, I spend a lot of time in Multiplayer, which still some people play today.
This game was the first NFS game I ever played, and despite the blacklist pacing being eh I actually really enjoyed playing it, the driving and the destruction just clicked with me. I did try the original MW a few years ago for a few hours and that’s when it clicked on me why this game dissapointed many ppl back then (also the comparisons to burnout paradise have made me realize I probably should play that game some day) Also the intro in this game is indeed goated
boy: mom can we get most wanted? mom: no, we have most wanted at home most wanted at home:
I never played the OG Most Wanted or really any NFS games prior to this one in 2012 and I played the shit out of this on m Vita and later Xbox 360 It really seems like a branding issue, I enjoyed this game a lot and never had any problems with it. I was so sad when I saw everyone hating on this game. You just explained that people just expected something different. Great vid!
Played this on my Vita since it came out and finally got the Ps3 version, I love this game so much
Yo you brought back the old rat/beaver and the budget background
The point of having to find cars in the city is that each car has its own races for upgrades and to earn sp, and u can use different types of cars for different stuff and find fast cars to taken on high tier most wanted racers
This game is the Cheapest EA excuse to play burnout with licensed cars.
i'll be honest, NFS MW 2012 holds a special place in my heart with how muched i played it. yeah, it doesnt feel like a NFS game and feels rushed, but its still my favorite. NFS MW 2012 is still an NFS to me
We had the same reaction. I bought it, played for about 10 minutes, felt the bitter taste of disappointment, then immediately refunded it.
The 2005/2012 most wanted games are my favorite in the series, the PC version has issues though, the controls have input lag. Its possible you can fix them with mods, and the game looks great at high resolution and frame rate. There is a mod to make all the effects and reflections higher resolution.
I love when games make fictional car brands. Beamng and burnout paradise are prime examples. I would have loved to see criterion do that again with this game 😢

I actually loved this game as a kid. Granted I never got to play the original Most Wanted. I also played Burnout far more than NFS, so maybe thats why I liked this one.
You forgot to mention that the engine sounds are the best in any racing game ever made.
EA named this game NFS Most Wanted cuz 'Money Bro'
Most Wanted 2012 is the Modern Warfare 2 2022 for NFS
Dude, this game was the bomb for my childhood. Don’t know how this game was the worst, this game is actually really fun to mess around with cops and experiment with the cars. One of the best.
the only reason why i still play this game is because of the sound the cars make while in the air after like 10 seconds with nos
This was actually my first exposure to the NFS series when I played it on my brother's PSVita. I kinda love the game to this day, maybe nostalgia but I don't know for sure. There is one thing to it that makes it one of the best playing NFS games for me, on a moment to moment basis. What I mean with that is the RacerS mod because I can finally play a NFS game with good police chases with my Steering Wheel.
At worst, this is an unfair description for the game. You can't accuse a game with its own identity and character of being the worst just because 2005 Most Wanted used the name of your idol.
Imagine EA ever suffering the consequences of their decisions

The amount of times a game has been released a franchise that is actually a decent game but doesn't fit the franchise at all I would have less of a problem with this game if it didn't call itself most wanted. It being named most wanted really makes it the worst game in the series.
I swear to god, I'm convinced the intro cutscenes in this game are what a drug trip feels like 😂

The only 3 things i love of this game is, the soundtrack, the graphics and the car damage model, amazing for a 2012 game

But as a teenager, I loved playing this game, it was fun since I didn't have much games to play. It was interesting in a way even if it does have its flaws. But it also introduced me to my favorite car in the whole world, the Lamborghini Aventador. So oddly, this game has a place in my heart. I remember almost every Friday night after school, I would stay up until 2 am playing this game. Also, I loved fighting against the police, the Bugatti Veyron SS was the ULTIMATE cop killer. This game fills me with an ungodly amount of rage. Anyone supporting it and saying it was a good game also. This was such a shitty attempt at a NFS game, and the fact that they called it Most Wanted?! Whose idea was that? It’s like going and watching a movie franchise, and there’s one “sequel” that has the same of the original, but is a totally different genre and is complete disconnected from the franchise in every way. Just a cash grab. The GALL of EA to make a shitty burnout game and slap the title of the most legendary game they’ve ever released on it…absolutely one of the stupidest moves ever for the NFS franchise.
In short, it just a Criterion cash grab MW 2005 knock off and I remember that in those years Criterion was marketing it so hard.

I think the way you unlock different parts of the map best illustrates why the 2005 Most Wanted is better than the 2012 one. In 2012 MW, some parts of the map are blocked off and you have to buy DLC to unlock them.
