Not including F.A.T.A.L was just common sense. It would have sweeped the competition. To anybody not in the know, in F.A.T.A.L you have to solve quadratic equations to calculate how far do you pee. Yes. There is a peeing mechanic. Yes. Peeing requires a skill check. Yes. You can fail a roll at peeing.

Perhaps due to the circular strategy rendering the game almost unwinnable for fascists, but that's more of a friend group not banning unfair strategies problem than the game itself. Still, it's not uncommom for people to rate social deduction games solely for how hard it is to play as the deceiving side. This includes how easy it is for the "civilian" side to come up with metagaming strategies to render the social deduction useless. That or due to the political theming.

Our War variant was that the player with fewer cards could wager their next 3 cards to make the player with more cards flip up a new card. This helped with taking back aces and kings, and provided significant enough risk that depended entirely upon the card you were going to lose. Are you going to lose a Queen? Probably a good idea to declare war. But if you're losing a 2, don't declare war. You could only declare war once per round, because no limit to the number of declarations in a round ended games really fast, with the inevitable moment where someone wagered their entire deck.

There's a weird lil internet thing called Corru Observer that features a mini-game kinda built around such an idea It's more of a turn-based fighting mini-game but it's interesting as you and your opponent have the same moveset and you get told one of their actions per turn in advance The catch is as the other event it's tied to progresses, the total number of actions each turn ramps up (starting at 2 but peaking at I think 4), all while you're still only afforded one bit of intel per turn

I once came up with a variant of "War" called "Attrition War". Here are the rules: - Every card that would usually be stronger than 10 (Like King, Queen or Ace) is equal in strenght to a 10 - Joker has a strenght of 0, but a special rule - Every turn both players draw 3 cards (One less for each entrenchement, as explained below), and place them face down next to one another, opposite to where the opponent places theirs - Then, the conflict resolves between the opposite cards in the following way: > All cards are revealed at once > the card of lower value is removed from play, the card of higher value goes to your discard pile > If one side played a joker, an ambush happens- both joker and the opposite card go back to their respective discard piles, and if it was opposed by a card of strenght 10 or above it's owner discards a top card from their draw pile > Cards' value is increased by 1 for each neighboring card of the same symbol > If your cards on both left and right win, the enemy is encircled- you automatically win in the center and capture enemy card into your discard pile > If you encircle a Joker, that joker is instead removed from play and you discard top 3 cards from your draw pile (This stacks with joker's normal effect) > If Joker is opposed by another Joker, Christmas truce happens- all cards return to their respective discard piles and no combat or special effects are resolved > If opposite cards are of equal strenght, frontline is entrenched- both sides keep these cards where they are and remove from the game a top card from the top of their draw pile at the start of each of their turns and draw one card less, until one of them breaks a stalemate by supporting with a card of the same symbol or encircling an enemy - If your draw pile runs out, shuffle your discard pile into your draw pile The game ends in one of two ways: 1. If a side is unable to draw enought cards due to both their draw and discard pile being too small, the other side wins 2. If the entire frontline becomes entrenched, the player with more cards in both their draw and discard pile wins I also came up with a faster variant where you draw 5 cards at the time but cannot encircle your enemy

I love the idea of this, but I think there should be a version that kicks out all the roll-and-move type games from the late 90's-early 00's since almost all of them boil down to having the same issue: low player agency and effectively playing themselves. It's like half the bracket are all the same game under a different name, some with slightly more controversial theming than others. Edit: I didn't really think about it until after the fact, but all the games that are just "roll dice and keep score" are in a similar boat, like Bunco and LCR. Just a bunch of spots taken up by games that are more or less there for the same reason.

I don’t think people how bad “what do you meme?” Is, for prespective it came out 2016 and even back then the content it used was horrifically out of date, and being a meme game memes get stale as hell and when that’s the premise of your game it’s horrific. And it’s a cards against humanity like, which means your making horrible 2000’s esc top text bottom text memes. But that also doesn’t work as the “text cards” are often waaayyyy too long for the picture assosiacted with so you can’t even try and force this to be funny this game is so criminally unfunny and never hits that “it’s so bad it’s good” tier

The grand final I truly wanted to see was the meme machine going up against The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War, 1940-43. the reason: unlike RPS and Adultery that literally have no target audience, The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War, 1940-43 and What do you meme? actually have a target audience and even their target audience thinks they're horrible.

It is surreal to me the level of venom that got thrown at "What shall I be: exciting game of career girls". People actually saying a product of its time makes it as offensive as those two Hammerhead games, or Adultry, or even Oy Vey which is arguably worse- your daughters become house wives. Even comparing it to Ms. Monopoly. That was a game that should have known how patronizing it was and exactly how it would make every male player feel and went for it anyway. Career Girls was released in 1966. It is like getting mad at some greatest generation grandparent, it just makes you sound insufferable.

I agree completely. And besides, the careers listed in the game aren’t _bad_ careers, and are still very female-dominated in real life. Half the women on my dad’s side of the family are nurses, for example, and the elementary school I attended growing up had an almost entirely female faculty. As a little girl, I’ve wanted to be a teacher, an actress, and a ballet dancer at various points in my life. Look at it not only through the lens of its time, but through the lens of a child. A little girl will likely see “model”, “actress”, and “ballet dancer” as glamorous careers that they look up to, and they’re very likely to have encountered teachers, nurses, and flight attendants in real life at that point in time. So those are all careers they already know are possible.

I think there’s a genuine angle with Adultery being a gag gift. Like are we GENUINELY certain that the creators of adultery did not just come up with a game in 5 minutes to go along with their gag board game packaging of Adultery? It’s meant to shock in merely the TITLE more than in the actual content of the game. I do not think it has any value past those little fake boxes that you wrap in actual gift in that say “Vape for Kids” or whatever. Also the Stunk region is nominally the worst for letting such a playable and ironically enjoyable board game such as WDYM make the semis. Speak Out is definitely worse in my book, as WWB always felt like a copout answer for me, yet even with that, Speak Out rolls Adultery and North Africa 100 times out of 100. Says something for the balance of the bracket

The stock Sorry game is worse than you made it out to be. You draw cards and watch what happens, but all that happens is you move your pieces on the board and maybe send an opponent's piece back. Sending pieces back to the beginning has never made me feel anything other than "Oh no, now the game is going to last even longer." I would rather lose than continue playing, but I don't even have enough agency to throw the game. What you didn't mention is that most turns you literally do nothing. Your pieces can't leave the start unless you draw a specific number, and even if you do have a move, it is probably the only legal move. You make maybe 5 actual decisions the entire game, but those decisions will be completely arbitrary. If there is a 'good' move, it's so obvious that picking it requires no thought. It's such a painful waste of time.
