Not including F.A.T.A.L was just common sense. It would have sweeped the competition. To anybody not in the know, in F.A.T.A.L you have to solve quadratic equations to calculate how far do you pee. Perhaps due to the circular strategy rendering the game almost unwinnable for fascists, but that's more of a friend group not banning unfair strategies problem than the game itself. Still, it's not uncommom for people to rate social deduction games solely for how hard it is to play as the deceiving side. This includes how easy it is for the "civilian" side to come up with metagaming strategies to render the social deduction useless. That or due to the political theming.
i have no actual basis for this, but my assumption and explanation for the obscurity of oy vey!’s origins is that it was never made to reach beyond jewish circles. it relies on stereotypes, yes, but it’s the kind of stereotypes that seem more like in-group jokes than out-group jokes, kind of like gay monopoly. if this is the case, the game is not nearly as offensive as it may seem to non-jews.

Our War variant was that the player with fewer cards could wager their next 3 cards to make the player with more cards flip up a new card. This helped with taking back aces and kings, and provided significant enough risk that depended entirely upon the card you were going to lose. Are you going to lose a Queen? Probably a good idea to declare war. But if you're losing a 2, don't declare war. You could only declare war once per round, because no limit to the number of declarations in a round ended games really fast, with the inevitable moment where someone wagered their entire deck.

There's a weird lil internet thing called Corru Observer that features a mini-game kinda built around such an idea It's more of a turn-based fighting mini-game but it's interesting as you and your opponent have the same moveset and you get told one of their actions per turn in advance The catch is as the other event it's tied to progresses, the total number of actions each turn ramps up (starting at 2 but peaking at I think 4), all while you're still only afforded one bit of intel per turn
if nothing else, this entire bracket has introduced me to VERY interesting games from all over the spectrum. I didn’t know board games went that deep!!
I once came up with a variant of "War" called "Attrition War". Here are the rules: - Every card that would usually be stronger than 10 (Like King, Queen or Ace) is equal in strenght to a 10 - Joker has a strenght of 0, but a special rule - Every turn both players draw 3 cards (One less for each entrenchement, as explained below), and place them face down next to one another, opposite to where the opponent places theirs - Then, the conflict resolves between the opposite cards in the following way: > All cards are revealed at once > the card of lower value is removed from play, the card of higher value goes to your discard pile > If one side played a joker, an ambush happens- both joker and the opposite card go back to their respective discard piles, and if it was opposed by a card of strenght 10 or above it's owner discards a top card from their draw pile > Cards' value is increased by 1 for each neighboring card of the same symbol > If your cards on both left and right win, the enemy is encircled- you automatically win in the center and capture enemy card into your discard pile > If you encircle a Joker, that joker is instead removed from play and you discard top 3 cards from your draw pile (This stacks with joker's normal effect) > If Joker is opposed by another Joker, Christmas truce happens- all cards return to their respective discard piles and no combat or special effects are resolved > If opposite cards are of equal strenght, frontline is entrenched- both sides keep these cards where they are and remove from the game a top card from the top of their draw pile at the start of each of their turns and draw one card less, until one of them breaks a stalemate by supporting with a card of the same symbol or encircling an enemy - If your draw pile runs out, shuffle your discard pile into your draw pile The game ends in one of two ways: 1. If a side is unable to draw enought cards due to both their draw and discard pile being too small, the other side wins 2. If the entire frontline becomes entrenched, the player with more cards in both their draw and discard pile wins I also came up with a faster variant where you draw 5 cards at the time but cannot encircle your enemy

I love the idea of this, but I think there should be a version that kicks out all the roll-and-move type games from the late 90's-early 00's since almost all of them boil down to having the same issue: low player agency and effectively playing themselves. I don’t think people how bad “what do you meme?” Is, for prespective it came out 2016 and even back then the content it used was horrifically out of date, and being a meme game memes get stale as hell and when that’s the premise of your game it’s horrific. And it’s a cards against humanity like, which means your making horrible 2000’s esc top text bottom text memes. Even comparing it to Ms. Monopoly. That was a game that should have known how patronizing it was and exactly how it would make every male player feel and went for it anyway. I agree completely. And besides, the careers listed in the game aren’t _bad_ careers, and are still very female-dominated in real life. Half the women on my dad’s side of the family are nurses, for example, and the elementary school I attended growing up had an almost entirely female faculty. As a little girl, I’ve wanted to be a teacher, an actress, and a ballet dancer at various points in my life. Look at it not only through the lens of its time, but through the lens of a child. A little girl will likely see “model”, “actress”, and “ballet dancer” as glamorous careers that they look up to, and they’re very likely to have encountered teachers, nurses, and flight attendants in real life at that point in time. So those are all careers they already know are possible.
The Ungame isn't fun to play, it's a therapy tool. But it isn't painful or offensive so it has no chance at being the worst. It's just the worst I've personally "played" because I've done therapy work with it.

It'd be interesting to see a bracket of "games that have never been finished". Whether due to impossibly long run times, insane rules, or simple, overwhelming unpopularity. Our pleasure! Thank you for watching!
I can't believe I watched a 2 hour video where I felt invested in cheering on what ultimately became the winner and found a newfound curiosity for finding a way to play the North Africa game.
Seeing Phase 10 here hurts. It's basically just Continental Rummy, which I grew up playing with my family every christmas. I miss those games.
I think there’s a genuine angle with Adultery being a gag gift. Like are we GENUINELY certain that the creators of adultery did not just come up with a game in 5 minutes to go along with their gag board game packaging of Adultery? It’s meant to shock in merely the TITLE more than in the actual content of the game. I do not think it has any value past those little fake boxes that you wrap in actual gift in that say “Vape for Kids” or whatever. Also the Stunk region is nominally the worst for letting such a playable and ironically enjoyable board game such as WDYM make the semis. Speak Out is definitely worse in my book, as WWB always felt like a copout answer for me, yet even with that, Speak Out rolls Adultery and North Africa 100 times out of 100. Says something for the balance of the bracket

I agree completely! The contempt that the Internet has for memes after their allotted 3 weeks of relevance has always baffled me. Personally, a part of me is still going to find memes from the past funny, and I’ve unironically repeated a lot of outdated memes in real life. What Do You Meme is a harmless and fun game and people’s contempt for it just shows how “pump-and-dump” meme culture has become.
I'm actually annoyed to see pass the pigs here, thats a pretty good game, I think!
never thought i’d be on boardgame youtube but im happy to be here
it took until i was 27 minutes in to realize it was 2 hours long.
1:31:19 " helps people learn communicate better" that made me laugh. Great video :)
I clicked this video SPECIFICALLY because I collect Obscure and niche Board games, and I want to see if anything super weird shows up I can hunt down
15-Love reminds me of the Avalon Hill Tennis statistics game. Steffi Graff VS Navratilova took five hours rolling dice and the stats on both athletes just resulted in unbearably long rallys.
Totopoly is one that should get an honorable mention for being a game of 2 halves where the first half is about getting money and preparing for the race, betting on horses. But money doesn't actually matter because the second half is about getting your horse over the finish line, which involves rolling the EXACT number. So, you end up with a bunch of players at the end needing to roll a 1 to win.
4:26 we play this everytime our family meets up somewhere around chistmas time, but it’s called left right center and we use actual money instead of tokens, really fun game.
Hyped for the best board game bracket!!
The sheer excitement and hyping up of all the contestants is infectuous. Makes you want to make a new contender yourself.
I fucking love Phase 10. One mess up and your lead can be over. (And doing a full hand phase is fun to mess with people who don't have it down because it becomes more chaotic. I love it so much that I taught my entire college dorm room floor how to play. THAT was chaos at its finest, and I love it.)

god, phase 10. A snail falling over is more chaotic. Rather play actual rummy

I could see myself enjoying it with friends where it’s moreso a background thing for hanging out, but every time I’ve played it was with my family and MAN was it a slog to get through. We’ve never finished a game of it because everyone got bored of it by phase 5. If you like it then more power to you, but unfortunately I am a certified Phase 10 hater.

53:35 in dnd you usually have a map you move around on in combat, as such it and in fact most TTRPGS are both pen and paper games AND board games, or at least somewhere in between. And besides Tick Tac Toe is a pen and paper game but you included it anyway.
Owning one of the two finalists means you are a chump, owning the other means you should not be allowed to interact with other human beings unsupervised, there was no true competition.
The guy that said CFNA:DW 40'-43' was the one board game he would refuse to play to completion forgot WWB
How is Careers not on here? That game sucks. It was the game that everyone seemed to have, but no one wanted to play.
As a person who collects antique board games this video has broadened my horizons 😊
I love that valefisk’s torture game almost made it

An absolutely amazing video
I'm very disappointed to see that Outdoor Survival didn't make the cut. Any game where the players roll dice to stumble around in the wilderness at random before they die of hunger or thirst deserves a crack at the Big Dunce.
A lot of these feel like "rng bad :(" placements.... Quite a few of these games don't belong here Eta when the final was announced: Also. Don't call me out like that. I wasn't looking for copy of adultery for my weird boardgame collection. You don't know me. 😭😂😂

if that were true Yachtzee wouldve been on here, but its mostly "rng bad because i have no control"
I'm a little bummed that we didn't get the Ultimate Bacon Battle when it was just one match-up away, but this is what these rankings are for!
I would love to see a redo with this once Chemicards comes out, it would do really well
The stock Sorry game is worse than you made it out to be. You draw cards and watch what happens, but all that happens is you move your pieces on the board and maybe send an opponent's piece back. Sending pieces back to the beginning has never made me feel anything other than "Oh no, now the game is going to last even longer." I would rather lose than continue playing, but I don't even have enough agency to throw the game. What you didn't mention is that most turns you literally do nothing. Your pieces can't leave the start unless you draw a specific number, and even if you do have a move, it is probably the only legal move. You make maybe 5 actual decisions the entire game, but those decisions will be completely arbitrary. If there is a 'good' move, it's so obvious that picking it requires no thought. It's such a painful waste of time.
Put this on when playing campaign for North Africa, almost got through a single turn there
1:21:45 i love the censor bar fading at the same time as the thing it's censoring lmfao
Please look up the synonyms for "Convincing".
52:28 also the exitance of the trading mechanic makes it not bad
I dont know how Secret Hitler even got nominated for this, it in no way deserved to even be considered for this tournament
I’m wondering where Exploding Kittens (the base game, as I’m not too familiar with the expansions) fares on this list. Seems to be pretty random to me outside of a few cards, but even getting those cards is random.

As someone who’s played a lot of it there is a decent amount of strategy involved especially with the expansions
I'm surprised that Mouse Trap is not on here due to how long it takes to set up.
