The World Today With Tariq Ali - Jewish Arabs and Cultural Cleansing
This week Tariq speaks to New York University scholar Ella Shohat about the history of Jewish people in the Middle East and North Africa, using her Baghdadi heritage as a starting point.
Ella tackles the dominant, Western narrative on Jewishness, asserting that Jewish history, culture and opinion aren’t monolithic. Arab Jews, in particular, face the dichotomy of being considered both of the East and of the West - or, as Edward Said described it, being both Oriental and Orientalist.

I am going to share this as widely as I can. So many issues explained with great clarity in a short space of time.
I am dyslexic, but the way these two , people, explain it,I can understand what is being said.Thank you,I can understand a lot better.🤗🏴🙏🏻
HIghly impressive discours. I am an arabist myself of the university of Nijmegen the Netherlands. But there are some things which are very new for me. For instance that the new Hebrew was and is intended to distance itself from the Arabic surroundings and even remove specific sound or alterate them like Qaf in Kaf, Ain in A etc.
Thank you, I learned so much,
like so many interviews whether its this, Going Underground, Alex Salmond Show, The World According to Jesse, Watching the Hawks, On Contact, and George Galloway's Sputnik I wish the interview was much longer and web exclusive content was made to accommodate this.
Fascinating presentation. The nature of the Jewish People is revealed to be a Nation without a State. HaMadinat ve lo Isroel.
Wonderful a very honest explanation in plain everyday langue . I thank you both for the enlightenment .
