I believe that it's actually a very common misconception that Marko Varalahti was only 6'7, because if you look it says 2.05m/6'7'' -- 2.05m being ~6'9'', so something must've went wrong with the height conversion (which was common around that time). But yeah considering that he wasn't from a western country I'd reckon his actual claim was 2.05m (6'9'').

I look back at the weights that were being done in the past and they seem light compared to what guys are doing today. I'm wondering if 30 years from now is a 550-600kg deadlift going to be the norm for strongmen? It's crazy to think about.

Just came across this video and it is excellent! However, the listed heights are not all accurate: Ted Van Der Parre -> 209 cm is 6,10.5-6,11' OR 213 cm is 7' (I have read that he was actually shy of 7', but totally possible he was a true 7 footer during his young years; either way the tallest strongman to win WSM) Sean O'Hagan -> 212 cm is 6,11.5' (just shy of 7 foot and looks it, has an easy 4 inches on Brian shaw who is about 6,7 and change and a good 3.5 inches on Thor who is just shy of 6,8') Nathan Jones -> 208 cm is 6,10' (6,9.75 according to celebheights) Marko Varalahti -> 205 cm is 6,9' (definitely a conversion error) Hafthor -> 203 cm is 6,8 (6,7.75 according to celebheights) Tom Stoltman -> 203 cm is 6,8 (however, I have seen him listed at 6,6 in his early years; that being said he is taller than brian shaw and maybe a hair shorter than thor so possible he is actually 6,7.5) Brian Shaw -> 201 cm is 6,7.25' (celebheights, possibly 6,8 in his younger years but certainly not 6,8' barefoot anymore) Adam Scherr --> 199 cm is 6,6.5 (celebheights, not a full 6,7) Robert Oberst -> 197 cm is 6,5.5 (celebheights, easy 2 inches or shorter than Brian)

Such a great Video man! People tend to think height matters 90% in strongman, when it actually does not. People who never lifted anything heavy in their life also think the taller you are, the stronger you must be, which is pretty wrong as probably the NATURAL strongest people in the world are 1.85m, because if you are above that your body cant absorb enough calories(you cant eat enough), and if your are below 1,75m you simply cant put on enough weight. It is simply promotion that makes the talles athletes the most money. Events back in 2000-2010 did not always favour height as much as events nowadays, and YET shorter people below 1.80m like the Lalas brothers are world class. Of course for the casual mainstream people it will sound cooler when a 400 pound and 2 meter 5 tall guys lifts something, but actually the strongest of all in classical stronman sense are not bound to height. Pudzianowski 1,85m, Samuelsson 2,00m, Shaw 2,05m, Svend Karlssen 1,87m, Lalas Brothers 1,75m etc All in all i would say the following; Natural best athletes: 1,80-90m Roided best athlestes: doesn't matter at all, but you are finally able to put on weight if you are 1,90m and taller (which is impossible naturally to compete with other good genetics)

Off the top of my head there was also John Matuszak who competed in 1978 and was 6’8”. Also Cleve Dean, Sebastian Wenta, Travis Lyndon, Raffael Gordzielik, Johnny Hansson and Fraser Tranter who have all been listed as 6’7”. It’s a tricky one though because I know World’s sometimes get the heights wrong.

I believe your first man Mark was Jamie's partner in team strong man. He had 1/2 chunk of a very big tree fall directly on top of his torso in a ax chopping event. Your video showed Mark doing the brick lifting Loz. I loved that event. Has it been retired since the days of O.D and MVM?

Ty 4 video love ur channel. Honestly most of the strong men on this list r bout 1 or 2 shorter then wat they put themselves at. Oberst and braun strowman r both shorter then my right hand man who is just under 6,6 out of bed n the mourning. Most athletes and celebs I meet r bout 2 inches shorter then wat they say. I do body guard work for all the pro athletes, musicians and others hear n Hawaii. Awesome channel keep it going big guy.

Tarmo Mitt, Geoff Capes, Dominic Filiou (Freakishly huge too), Janne Vertanin, Richard Skog, Mike Jenkins, Torfi Olafsson, Johan Els, Mike Burke and probably more but I think the one you should have given a nod to was Phil Pfister because he won a world strongest man title and a great competitor. Cool video though as always Loz.

The greatest strongman (imo) and the ONLY one with 5 wins Mariusz Pudzianowski was only 6'0" (and that was his listed height in the competitions he may even be 5'11" or so.) And hence his nickname he DOMINATED the taller guys in competitions. In 2003 World's Strongest Man he won by the largest margin ever achieved in the sport at the time (idk if it's still the largest) he got 66 points and second place Zydrunas Savickas scored 46 points.
