The world’s oldest living music band - Ottoman Mehter

The Ottomans didn’t only win battles with swords and cannons. The military band Mehter accompanied soldiers into battles, putting psychological pressure on the enemy by playing very loud and scary music.

@Olga Vir no one was forced to accept islam. Amazigh marabouts spread islam in the maghreb. also tunisia was never fully christian, it was always "heretical" to the christian pope, following such things as donatism, arianism and many others. when the arabs came here they rebuilt and repaired the roman aqueducts that were abandoned by the christians at that time. and they constructed many great mosques and universities like that of al qayrawan and jama3 al zaytouna.

it is good to hide atheist belief with this cult No doubt I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "During the last days there will appear some young foolish people who will say the best words but their faith will not go beyond their throats (i.e. they will have no faith) and will go out from (leave) their religion as an arrow goes out of the game. So, where-ever you find them, kill them, for who-ever kills them shall have reward on the Day of Resurrection." Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 6930 In-book reference : Book 88, Hadith 12

One of the Mehter lyrics: How would unwary know the joy of fighting a war in vigor. Light of purity (spirits of the Shaheed) emanating from the battlefield of heroism When the men of war started the scream: Allahu Ekber in over excitement The surface of the earth shooked against the vault of heaven Lets fight in the name of Allah (Justice) and have all the glory Which Hz Yezdan (Allah) is promising in Quran Creator of the universe made the Jihad (Holy war) our religious duty Names of my ancestors have always been ascended through war Our ancestors who conquered the world for the name of AL-Haq (Allah) Were just and protective of the rights of all people Ps: Imagine You are living in the 13th century. 50.000 soldiers with horses marching towards your enemy and in front of you, you have the Mehter band with 2000+ men playing war music. And imagine the enemy before they will see the army they will hear the music and the Mehter band. The enemy most have thought: Those Turks are crazy, look how they come to wage a war. Like they are going to a wedding. Well, they are right. Its a Turkish ProverB. War is our wedding. What higher reward is there out in this world and here after other than becomming shaheed? May Allah give me the opportunity o die like a shaheed instead of nothing when i am at sleep at home. Amin Amin Amin

The most prominent company making professional cymbals used in drum kits for popular music _today,_ was started 4 centuries ago by an Armenian who made cymbals for this type of Ottoman military band! His name: Avedis - given the appelation ZILDJIAN by the Sultan at that time. Now almost any pop/rock/jazz/latin/R&B drummer has at least one or two Zildjian cymbals in his kit. :^)
