Even after all these years, it rubs me the wrong way that Formula Rossa is the fastest roller coaster on Earth when it literally immediately hits the brakes and scrubs the speed.

can confirm it’s an awesome ride. there’s some serious ejector on all the hills and the launch is super forceful. one of Australia’s best rides
I love how on most of these lists you see "65 feet per second" and it's the top-ranked pacing. Here you see "75 feet per second" and it's just middle of the pack, and an absurd "96 feet per second" being *third*. Just a whole other breed of coaster.

Plus one. It's much more than just the launch.
The main difference between Stealth and Zaturn is that Stealth had it’s launch changed to have a faster acceleration than Zaturn. In fact, out of all these coasters, Stealth has the fastest acceleration stat.

I don't think it's good as Stealth and it's certainly one of the weaker xcelerators but that's only when compared to the others, it's deffo not as bad as people say.
I always wondered why, with launched shuttles first appearing in the late 1970s, it took so long for full-circuit launched coasters to really take off (no pun intended).
@AbsyntheMorstan
Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised if it was about the ability to generate enough force for a full circuit. Schwarzkopf's flywheel launch is pretty zippy for what it is, but it doesn't seem to have enough speed to do much more than the single loop and the spikes, and Arrow's launched coasters are more of a gentle push than anything. By the time of the coaster wars there was enough interest in and money for more experimental projects and heavier drains on power + modern electrical infrastructure.
@joshuaboniface
Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest reason is technology. The early launched coasters were very trivial to control. Spin the flywheel up, disengage the clutch, go. But the Accelerators are much more mechanically and electrically complex. TTD and KDK (and probably the others too) use a really complex hydraulic system with IIRC 8 pumps which requires some precise computer control in order to accelerate it properly while keeping the machinery small enough to be viable. That took late-90's/early-2000's computers to manage properly.

That's a great question. I think initially they where designed to save space, offering steel coaster thrills in a compact space. Nomenclature plays a part as well. Most people in the mid-seventies would have defined a roller coaster as gravity powered device, in fact shortly before that many would have included wood construction as a part of that definition. Similar to how Cedar Point preferred nobody noticed Gemini had steel track when it opened, they really wanted the general public to accept it as a wood racing coaster. Fast forward 50 years, to 2018 and they are proclaiming the first ever 200 foot hybrid coaster. My point is that I think It has a lot to do with what would be accepted by the public. Six Flags over Texas apparently had a big banner on New Texas Giant during its construction reading Tallest, Fastest Wood Coaster, but didn't open it with it on because it simply wouldn't be accepted as such.
Great video Chris never thought of this really good creative series everytime you drop these is always 🔥🔥🔥always keep up the great work!
I think when it comes to launch roller coasters, S&S Are the undisputed kings of Launched coasters. They have held the world record for the fastest accelerating roller coaster for a long time and each and every single roller coaster that I've been on for them, particularly their launched ones,never fail to disappoint me for how intense they are. Take Maxx Force and dodo dompa for example. The launches on both of these roller coasters are truly out of this world. Max force does 0 to 80 mph in 1.755 seconds. The fastest accelerating car ever built does 0 to 60 mph in 1.7 seconds. And in the same time max force does it 20 mph faster in the same time. As for dodo dompa, that roller coaster is absolutely terrifying. It does 0 to 112 mph in 1.56 seconds. To give you an understanding of just how fast that is, if this were accelerating for the same period of time as a Bugatti Veyron does in 0 to 60, it would be doing 190 to 200 mph. The first time I went on that coaster, I had the absolute soul scared out of me. in my opinion, when it comes to launch roller coasters, S&S is the way to go and there is no one who can do it better. When it comes to fast roller coasters, top speed wise, intamin does it better.
I love that theming for Superman Escape and how you're being rescued by the Man of Steel who is supposed to be pushing the train, and how they actually designed a Superman statue pushing the back of the train, very clever.
I love your by the numbers series! I’ve only been on one accelerator, dragster. That hydraulic launch is awesome!
Having been on a few of these, nothing compares to Stealth. 0-80 in 1.9 seconds is just brutal. Need to do Do-dodonpa at some point...

Only been on 2 of these ( Kingda Ka and Storm Runner). Storm Runner was amazing.
I thought maybe you would do this video and now that you have, my top 3 are, 3. Storm Runner 2. Top Thrill Dragster 1. Kingda Ka. Of course, I've never been to Europe or Asia. That being said, I just don't think you can out do Kingda Ka in speed and height and Storm Runner has an amazing layout. I hope Cedarfair works with Intamin again one day as imagine having a Storm Runner style coaster twice as long and at King's Island. Whoa!
Ahh I want these rides made again ugh
u are the king
I am so happy that there is a accelerator 3 hours away from me now at lost island
I think the main reason why dragster has better pacing is because it’s smaller so the launch needs less power and it clears the top hat faster
For rides like these I really think you should count prime ride time all the way up until you slow down to the trim speed at the end because braking at 50+ mph is part of the thrill for a lot of these, especially stealth, ka, not to mention stuff like full throttle
Hi, great video man, loved it, but i believe you forgot to put Red Force at Ferrariland, Port Aventura, i rode it 2 years and it was awesome, and it’s from intamin and i was very shocked when Red Force wasn’t there, but regardless, great video🥰

Furius Baco is missing here.Great intense ride
What about Furius Baco? RCDB doesn't classify it as an accelerator but it does have the same hydraulic launch like all of the others
I’ve ridden both Formula Rossa and Stealth. Stealth’s acceleration is way more forceful and consistent than Formula Rossa’a. The Ferrari World coaster’s hydraulic launch actually starts off very lamely for the first split second, before powering forcefully to top speed. For sheer accelerative intensity Stealth wins imho
“By the tallest” I think it’s pretty obvious what that one is And the fact Rita is the tallest ride at Alton towers is just insane 💀
When are you getting back to Hersheypark? I think you need to try everything again. Also will you talk about wildcat?

In retrospect it would have made sense to include it here. RCDB doesn't list it as one so I didn't think to add it
Any particular reason coaster logos weren't used like normal (other than there were probably 3-4 that didn't have one)?
Wow, seeing all of them listed in one place, I just realized that I have ridden half of them. Most of them were so un-noteworthy so that I basically forgot about them by now. Sure, Kinda Ka left an impression, as did Kanonen (the latter for being so slow that we were not sure if the train would make it all around the track). But that "oh yeah, that thing at Hershey Park.. oh yeah, Heide-Park has got one too" moment (as for a few others) shows that I am generally not too much of a fan of this coaster type.
Question:would you count red force an accelerator or a blitz’s. If so where would it rank
@AirtimeThrills
Жыл бұрын
Thanks to RCDB not classifying it as anything other than just an Intamin launch coaster I didn't include it in either. But if I had to choose I would definitely have put it in the accelerator group
Do the arrow suspended coasters by the numbers.
is Furious Baco at PortAventura not considered an accelerator coaster? does having wing style cars make it a different model? I thought it would be included since it's an intamin hydraulic launched coaster. Either way, I love this series!
A mild criticism, I think launched coasters should also have some consideration for acceleration rate, not just top speed. Stealth for example, has a lower top speed than Top Thrill Dragster, but a stronger launch.

Same with my daughters. It’s great to be able to share with one’s kids, such an amazing adventure.
You know I love this series, but considering it’s Intamin Accelerator coasters you forgot to list the rate of acceleration. I think Stealth comes in at #1 on this list for that.
I feel that Top Thrill Dragster should include a few more seconds of ride time, because even after you hit those first set of brakes at 17 seconds, you continue to haul butt for several more seconds. I barely even feel those first set of brakes. It's much further down the track before there's a notable loss of speed. Putting some mild brakes at 17 seconds ensured that its pacing would top this list, but I would still prefer to have a hill like Kingda Ka instead.
You forgot another accelerator that is located in portaventura world, in spain, its name is furius baco and it goes from 0 to 135 km per hour in 3 seconds

Okay tell me what you think about this. Since Cedar Point (my home park) is moving the Matterhorn and scrambler to where the pavilion is going to be at, that leaves empty land next to the Corkscrew. With Corkscrew declining I’m popularity, becoming very rough, and one of the worst rides in the park, do you think they would take it down and put an RMC Raptor single rail coaster in its place for all those attractions? They can still make it go over the midway like how Corkscrew is. I think that is very logical to do in my opinion. I know that Corkscrew is a spectacle to look at and trust me, I love seeing it running, but everyone knows the ride sucks and it’s not going to be as enjoyable as it was for kids to be prepared for the bigger rides since it’s so rough. Now that they are adding a wild mouse, that’s THREE coasters kids can ride before they start riding the big ones. This is just my opinion on it, you might’ve already said something like this, but I’m not sure so I’m commenting it.
