So it takes 30 months to be able to do Nordic hamstring curls. I just started so I guess June of 2025 I'll be able to do them. I think I'll be able to do them sooner I don't need too much assistance with the push-ups and catching myself at the bottom.

Not really, took me about 4 months of training them once a week to do a slow deficit and I am pretty close to do an unassisted lift off (I can if I have a small block under my belly button). The only problem is the pain when i contract my hamstrings. Mind you, I don't even have a fitness / strength background and my lower body strength is lacking due to pervasive knee injury from running ages ago.

I get very sharp hamstring pain when I do nordics and contract my muscles to go unassisted though I managed to get strong enough to do a slow deficit and a unassisted lift off if i have a small block under my belly. What could be behind the pain? My hamstrings are extremely painful when I stretch, though I have very good flexibility but things like elephant walk just makes me want to scream from pain.

Probably not but nordics enhanced their speed even more. If you're not already fast then doing them may not make you world class but you may bring out your potential that you didn't realize you had. I was blessed with good speed and jumping genetics but I got hurt many times due to using the wrong techniques. I'm rehabbing now but when I have the strength I'll give Nordics a try.

Ben offers good information but the Nordic is a bit overrated for speed. If maximum tension is felt near the bottom then wouldn't it be better to train the Nordic at that position isometrically? Another problem with the Nordic is that it's not a high velocity exercise. You need to develop high velocity strength for sports and the Nordic can't be done at speeds that are effective to gain high velocity strength. That being said, I still include Nordics in my training and I think they are great.

  • @lildarkd

@@sobeck6900 sprinting for longer distance than those that you are exposed to in soccer. For example a couple 50 yard sprints will help develop the eccentric strength in your hamstrings and will provide your muscles with velocity specific adaptions. I have many studies in my files that show just that, sprinting is way more superior than doing Nordics! Another thing you could do would be Single Leg Romanian Chair holds. They are more effective than Nordics at increasing hamstring endurance.

@@sobeck6900 it depends how often you do longer distance sprints in soccer. If you are constantly sprinting for half field counters then you probably already get enough stimulus. Generally, working in sprint training once or twice a week is a good idea though.
