WELCOME TO KARBALA, IRAQ. This is the site of the world's largest pilgrimage, where every October, over 15 MILLION Shia Muslims walk from neighboring countries to show respect to Imam Hussain's shrine (grandson of prophet Muhammad). Even though I am not visiting in October, I can feel the spirit in the air unlike any place I've ever been.
The mosques and mausoleums are STUNNING, and somehow, I got special VIP access into the back room to meet with the boss... and he gave me permission to film inside. This kind of permission is unheard of!
But my favorite thing about Karbala is the hospitality. You've probably noticed a theme by now - that the Middle East has the most hospitable people in the world and a perfect example of this is Karbala!
The main mosque provides hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of FREE meals to anyone who stops by. I've never seen anything like it in my life... And not only that, but the local people will open their doors to all visitors.
We randomly got invited into a family's home where they cooked us a 10 course meal.
All of that and more in this amazing episode, which I hope will change your perspective about Iraq.
If you're still reading this, just know that I love you and thanks so much for watching my videos and supporting me over the years. I am in my happiest place right now, traveling through Iraq proper, and I'm just so grateful to be able to share these stories with you. More to come next week!

Iraqis are Arab, but Iranians, are much more Shi'a (as in, a greater proportion of Iran is Shi'a) and in looks and practice, Shi'a is a different religion from Sunni (the Sunnis would probably deny this, though). So the vibe is *very* different.

Just to clarify some things mentioned in the video: 1. The Arbaeen Pilgrimage happens in a different time every year & not necessarily during October as Muslims follow the lunar calendar! 2. As other people said in their comments, Karbala isn't the holiest place for shia muslims (but ONE of the most holiest places); Mecca, Madina & Jerusalem are the top 3 holiest places for all different branches of islam! 3. Abbas isn't an Imam, but Hussain (his half brother) is one of the 12 Imams for shia muslims! Thank you Drew for another great video!

@Rizz Wizz if you live near border like near iran it’s bad. If taliban take control it’s over the country will go into civil war and their might not be an Afghanistan. Although it’s not that much worse than a couple months ago in some areas The potential of what can happen is very scary and extremely dangerous.

Imam Baqir (A.S.) said: Amirul Mu’mineen (A.S.), along with two of his companions, happened to pass by Kerbala and as he did so, tears filled his eyes. He said (to them), “This is the resting place of their animals; and this is where their luggage shall be laid down; and it is here that their blood shall be shed. Blessed are you O’ Earth, that the blood of the beloved shall be spilled upon you.” Bihar al Anwar, vol: 98 pg. 258. Imam ‘Ali (A.S.) said to Ibn Abbas: (Once when he happened to pass by Kerbala), Isa (A.S.) sat down and began to weep. His disciples who were observing him, followed suit and began weeping too, but not comprehending the reason for this behaviour, they asked him: “O’ Spirit of God! What is it that makes you weep?” Isa (A.S.) said: “Do you know what land this is?” The disciples replied: “No.” He then said: “This is the land on, which the son of the Prophet Ahmad (S.A.W.) shall be killed. Bihar al Anwar vol 44 pg. 252.
