The World of Shofars

Hearing the sound of the shofar is the single, unique commandment of Rosh HaShana. The shofar we blow on Rosh HaShana is made from a ram's horn. Why is that? Can a shofar be made from the horns of other animals? What makes a kosher shofar? Rabbi Dr. Natan Slifkin, the Founder and Director of the Biblical Museum of Natural History in Israel, answers these questions and much, much more, in this fascinating, hands on teaching about shofarot.
The Temple Institute thanks Rabbi Slifkin for sharing with us his love and knowledge of shofarot.

Shofars aren't Jewish. They r for the Kingdon of God. We are ALL comnanded to blow shofars and keep the feasts. It's a misunderstanding of new testament readers. Nothing abt the bible is Jewish. . . Its God's word to ALL of us. It just so happens that Jews, Hebrews n Israelites actually know and follow OTinstructions, which Jesus did too. Some of them reject Jesus just like others today. Blessings 2u. ,

If you believe in Jesus as the Messiah than your grafted into the tree and part of the same family. You should be following the same guidance. There was one law for you and those who control joint among you. We'd all of Jesus's Red Letters without thinking of what the church told you they mean and read what he actually said. Be blessed.

"15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. "1:5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:5-9. "2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9. "3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith." Romans 3:23-27.

Thanks, Rabbi. Around 5:00, the bovine family of animals is whom you are referring to. "Cow" simply indicates female (such as "bull" is to male). A female moose is referred to as a cow, a male moose is referred to as a bull. Moose are not of the bovine family, whether cow or bull. A female whale is referred to as a "cow" and it's offspring are similarly called calves.

The colour of a domestic goat`s horn depends on the breed. Those with white heads (i.e. the all-white Saanen) will grow yellow (golden) horns; the grey-brown Toggenburg grows grey-brown horns, and the Oberhasli and French Alpine grow black ones. Of course, these are Swiss breeds, not present in ancient Israel. Willi B. in Canada.

@Paula Wallace Yeshua is from the line of Abraham, and David. If you take the time to read the New Testament for yourself, with an open mind and ignoring all the Christian commentaries that may hinder interpretation, it is clear Yeshua is thoroughly Jewish, and Messiah. The problem is the twisted anti-semitism that has plagued Christian history, that the apostles themselves spoke against (Read Romans 9-11), has become an obstacle hindering Jews from exploring, let alone embracing the New Testament. God's covenant with Abraham is everlasting, and the throne of David, the Kingdom of Israel will be restored just as the prophet Isaiah proclaimed! God's promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob still stand!
