I’ve found myself in an emotional slump lately and I’ve now found myself watching anything Muppets or Jim Henson because it is so comforting. Can’t believe I didn’t enjoy this as a child but it’s never too late!

It's true what he says about people not caring about the puppeteer. I was standing on Columbus Ave , near my apartment, when a muppet came down the sidewalk, carried by a man I knew was Jim. The muppet said hello and I got into a conversation with it. I never paid any attention to Jim. The muppet had so much personality that it was real to me, so I just talked with it. Then they moved on down the street, talking to people as it passed. I will never forget it. I loved it .

For reasons that are unknown, my grandmother taped this special when it originally aired and gave it to me as a Christmas present. I still have it and have probably watched it 30 times. I quote parts from time to time. I have now gone on to be a professional artist, and I've even done puppetry as part of my job. MUCH was influenced by what I learned on this special. I even got to work on a theater project with someone who worked for Jim Henson Productions once! Thanks Grandma. I don't know what prompted your foresight, but it made an impact

For some reason I don't recall Jim Henson getting fired from productions for causing incidents with directors, arguing over contractual situations, and permanently blacklisting puppeteers for understudying for him when he refused to take part in a gig. Then again, what the hell do I know?

As a huge Henson fan, this documentary is 100% awesome.

I have a cool story about meeting a bearded man a while back in New York . I was hired to work in a Jewish deli on Madison Avenue at 65th Street in Manhattan part time at night with two individual who purpose in life was to be evil . They were rude sold hard drugs and was stealing cash from the store register every night . They even had the deli owner son the one who hired me hook on that garbage . It became a real snake pit . One dark lonely cold winter night I was in the back of the store and I heard a loud crash . I went to investigate what's causing the commotion and see a man bent over trying to clean up the mess he made . He drop a cup of yogurt .I told him don't worry I got this I will clean this up . When the man stood up I instantly said to myself this man is not a ordinary man there was something special about him . Something you do not see everyday . He was a tall bearded man in a long black overcoat . I recognize him it was Jim henson creator of the muppets . I immediately sense a humble wise old fashioned man . So I asked him how is Kermit the Frog . At first he look surprised that I recognize him then his face lit up with a big smile .I told him that I was a fan of his work . I ask him about a movie he made called THE DARK CRYSTAL . I told him the movie was very weird and dark . We also talk about Frank oz who did some of the character voices in the flim . You may know him as the voice of miss piggy . The way he described him and his work you could tell they were good friend .The conversation ended went I was call away. I told him it was a pleasure to meet him . What I got from this encounter is he was a genuine individual a kind smart man .Definitely a people person . It was like a holy experience . He left me with a good impression . Many dark days past . I felt confined in this box so it was time to move on . I wanted to work freelance so I became a trusted new york city messenger that took me to a location in lower Manhattan across the plaza from the World Trade Center and many part of the city and beyond . 😃

Jim Henson is my hero. He inspired me to have a imagination and to create things that make me and millions of people happy. He told Me to find the rainbow connection and that life's like a movie. Write your own ending. If I never knew who Jim was, then I would of been a dull and lame girl but thanks to him, I am unique and colorful. He is like my father. Sometimes I call him dad. I love Jim and Frank and the muppets. I will never survive a day not watching Muppets or any Jim Henson film.

Finally got to watch Muppet Show on Disney plus at 27. Damn wish I had grown up with that instead of half the shit I was exposed to. Knowing he was Dr Bob & all the rest makes his death even more sad. Dead before I was even born

I remember watching Jim Henson on Johnny Carson toward the end of the week, and then hearing that he was dead on Monday. It's not supposed to happen like that. He was a true cultural icon, and the world lost years of joy and wonder when he died. He was one of the good ones.

The very first time we see Jim in this when he's talking about how people focus on the puppet even if the puppeteer is visible... 100% yes. Adults & kids. I experienced this magic first hand when I was student teaching & had a one-on-one moment with a kind on the spectrum who mostly only spoke when he was having an episode & screaming. I grabbed a puppet and talked to him through the puppet and had a whole conversation about his family with him. I didn't act overly silly or try to be funny, just a gentle voice that let him know I was there, listening and supporting him. I still remember that moment & watching the shift he went through from angry and screaming to calm and talking to me. It was amazing.

I don't know how my childhood would have been without Jim and his Muppets, but I know it would have been worse. Thank you, Mr Henson.

When I was working with Jim Henson on Sesame Street, I did bits with Ernie. And then Telly in Hooper's Store. My only regret was I didn't go on The Muppet Show or any Muppet films. I love the the crossover between the Muppets and Sesame Street gang like Bert with Connie Stevens. I was sad to see Jim Henson die but there's one thing that the Muppets did the tribute on was to bring the memory of him alive in our hearts forever. And that is , if just one person believes you and more believes in him makes us a family.

I had the great pleasure of being introduced Mr. Jim Henson at my Robotics lab at Atari Corporate research in Sunnyvale California (Long story). Meeting him had a great influence on my career. I never saw this documentary until now and it's inspiring. I was so fortunate to meet him.

Miss you Jim. You meant so much to those of us who loved the thought of being a puppeteer. I did see a reality show last year where groups of people formed teams to compete for jobs working with the Muppets.

R.I.P Jim Henson, you had talent that no one can match; it brings tears to my eyes when they show Kermit singing with Ray Charles (it's not that easy being green), I can't really explain why...

i can't help but cry while watching this, but it's happy tears.

What an absolute legend. So many of my fond childhood memories were created by him

2021, I am 47 and a grown man. I am sitting here smiling and tearful. Grow up with The Muppetshow, loved it as it was back then. What a legend Jim was and his whole team bringing so much joy and laughter to kids of all ages. Thank You, if You were part of it and reading this!

I was pretty young when this show came out (now 58) I remember my grandparents being absolutely enthralled by this show, it was a smash hit globally. Genius.

I am 74, and I remember the very early Kermit that sat on a surface and ate worms as they would crawl up to him. That is until one worm ended being a big monster's nose. Then early on Ralph the dog was on the Jimmy Dean Show on tv. Jimmy and Ralph had about a five minute set with each other each show. And sometimes Ralph would sing or chat with some of the guests. I wasn't very old at the time, and really enjoyed the whole show, but Ralph was a special part for me.

I remember watching this on ABC when it came out... Jim Henson had been past for a few years... but this was something that just brought back all of those EARLY childhood memories back. I was 14 watching this, and yet I felt like I was 7 years old again. watching this now... I still feel like I'm 7.

This man was able to make me believe ! My heart was shattered when we lost him. What a man.

Jim Henson 1936 - 1990 Jim Henson was one of the most famous puppeteers, film maker and artist of the 20th century. He quite simply revolutionised puppetry in a way that nobody had ever done before. He designed puppets in such a way that the whole face really appeared to be talking to the audience. He designed the eyes in way to force the audience to focus solely on the puppet, as though the entire face filled the screen. To begin with, Henson was not interested in puppetry as an art form per say. He was primarily interested in television. He used puppetry as a vehicle for getting into the television industry. Henson began his career in the 50s with a 5 minute puppet show for adults that aired at 11.25 at night, entitled Sam's Friends. His team became known for making commercials for products such as dog food. In 1969, he was recruited by a children's television workshop to become a key innovator in the development of a program called Sesame Street. The aim of the program was to combine education with entertainment using a combination of of human performers and muppets and short animations as a vehicle for teaching children basic literacy and numeracy skills. In addition to spacial awareness, social skills and issues that would affect them in everyday life. In 1976 Henson and his team went on to produce The Muppets Show in London which became the most popular tv show in the world at the time. Characters like Kermit the frog, Ms. Piggy, Sandy Evil, Beaker, Fuzzy Bear, Gonzo and many more quickly became household names. The show also featured wide variety of human guest stars prominent in show business at the time. Everyone from Spike Milligan to Leo Sawyer appeared on the show. It ran until 1981. In the early 80's Henson moved on to film to create masterpieces such as The Dark Crystal 1982 and Labyrinth 1986. They were spectacular works of art that combined comedy, artistry and story telling in a unique cinematic fashion that few had witnessed before. Initially they were not well received by the critics I believe this was because Henson had previously been pigeon holed into being a children's performer simply because he was a puppeteer and they did not know how to interpret such films. To me Henson was not just a children's performer, he was an artist, a storyteller, craftsman and philosopher who never had enough time to complete his work as demonstrated by his experimental film Timepiece which was nominated for an Oscar in 1965. Henson was also interested in folk tales and bringing those folk tales to a wider audience, which came through in one of his final projects before his death. The Storyteller which was hosted by a veteran actor John Hurt of Elephant Man. Henson's gentle message was peace and harmony in the world and a dream that encompass singing and dancing and making people happy, that's a quote from The Muppet Movie 1979. He commented on racial harmony through the voice of Kermit the frog in the song, Being Green, and environmental issues through the series, Freckle Rock 1983-1987, and above all use his muppets as a metaphor for the way he believed people should live their lives. His family continue his legacy with dignity and grace. My purpose in writing this was not to lement about my childhood but to try and get people to understand the complexity and beauty of Jim Henson as a performing artist. This is not to dismiss the vital contribution of people like Frank Oz R.I.P Mr. Henson.

There's a Jim Henson museum in Leland, Mississippi where he lived as a youngster. It's a small museum but worth checking out if you're in that neck of the woods.

Jim Henson was a genius ~not all geniuses have a beautiful heart ~but he did. I think my generation was blessed by him and his friends ~the way that The Beatles (and others) blessed us. They gave us some gifts to share with others. What more could you ask for? I feel grateful for his brilliance, and in awe of it too. What a wonderful soul.

I was born in 89. I knew his name from all the shows that I watched such as the Fraggles and Dinosaurs and Sesame Street and of course the classic Muppets but I didn’t know he died until he was in fourth or fifth grade when I read a passage about him in a standardized test. Couldn’t help crying a little.

Jim Henson was absolutely a genius. The biography written about him is fantastic!

What a great documentary! ❤️ I’m now 45, and feel my whole life has revolved around the muppets. My sense of humor, my quirkiness, my love, optimism, has come from growing up watching these amazing characters. Thank you Jim and Henson family. I love the muppets so much, and my kids do too!

The Muppet Show was a huge part of my growing up. I still love the characters, and can name most of them.💛

I’m 39 and I still get emotional seeing Jim with the Muppets, especially Kermit and Big Bird, and hearing Rainbow Connection. I’ve always loved him. I watched some of his funeral the other day and balled like a baby. Especially when Big Bird sang. Regardless of how old I am, those characters are %100 real.

What a genius he was brought happiness to my childhood

I remember where I was on 3 occasions upon hearing about someone famous who was important to me, in 1980 it was John Lennon, I was 20, in 1990 it was Jim Henson and I was 30 and then in 2014 it was Robin Williams.

He was a great man,Dark Crystal is my favourite film

Not seen this since my dad taped it off the tv when I was a baby for me to watch. Came in half way thru the "they look at the frog not the beard guy" henson interview. The man was a legend. Part of the creative God Tier

This just appeared in my timeline today,12/26/20. This man shaped my childhood as he did for so many others. I even bought the entire Muppet Show collection. Rest easy Mr. Henson. You are still missed..😢😔

I was only 10 months old when Jim Henson died. Jim put a huge impact on the world, sorry Epic Rap Battles did his legacy better than he did.

What a wonderful man. His work is truly inspiring, i've always loved puppets / muppets. I'm training to be a teacher right now and i'd love to incorporate puppetry into my work, it's such a beautiful and fun way to teach children about the world. I'm not sure how i'm going to go about it but i'm totally going to attempt to make my own puppet, a little class mascot character (Probably a baby Axolotl, i'm going to use him to teach sign language / Makaton. ) This was such an interesting video. Really wonderful, just like the man himself!

I remember watching this show and admiring how Mr. Henson’s normal speaking voice kept making me think of Kermit and other Muppet characters he voiced. I miss him and the magic the Muppets had while he was still alive.

When TV was innocent and entertaining for children, the 80’s we're just everything was possible.

Big part of my childhood..awesome times🍻👍if i could only get my grandkids into it😣👴i still see the Muppets as alive to this day...keeps me young

I was a member of the mail order Muppet Baby Book Club when I was young. I love that my mom let me be my weird self. I'm an abstract artist/designer today.

Is wonderful creation very well done Jim Henson he is pleased with the puppets and a wonderful actor in all films and shows

Jim Henson was definitely one of a kind! and we should all thank our lucky stars that we had him on this earth for a short while!

Love that small clip of Jim at 1:07:36. Even after all the many, many creations and characters he'd come up with and all the technological innovations he'd pioneered over all those years, Kermit was still his guy!

I worked with Jim and crew on the pilot show which was shot in NYC. I was the recording engineer. Fun fact, the pilot was called "sex & violence with the muppets" Jim and crew were the nicest people. It was a real pleasure to work with him

Thank you so much! I had this taped off the TV when I was little, and watched it until it wore out. Although I think there's a little chunk missing about Labyrinth, I'm so glad I can watch this again!!

I want a time machine to tell Jim not only to see a doctor when he becomes ill, but to tell him that someday Labyrinth will be well loved & adored, and people will host entire events & Balls inspired by it.
