The World Needs African Women Says Award Winning South African Poet Lebogang Mashile

Lebogang Mashile opened the 2nd Day of 30th Anniversary of the Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Accra Ghana with an extraordinary performance that brought the house down. Ghanaian media power house Anita Erskine caught up with her as she stepped off the BIG stage.
Mashile says "Being a creative on the continent can be very difficult as at times we have to be our own institutions but the work that is being done by creatives right now is absolutely essential and the gaze of the planet is on Africa. My work is a privilege and a calling. I have the privilege of living a life that my mother could only dream of, my grandmother couldn't dream of and that my great grandmother prayed for - we are inventing new ground for what it mean to be an African woman."
