Lyrics:
Well, I try and try to forget you, girl
But it's just so hard to do
Every time you do that thing you do
I know all the games you play
And I'm gonna find a way to let you know that
You'll be mine someday

Its probably modelled on various Beatle hits and has identical 'hooks' and phrasing so its not surprising. Straight out of Revolver or Rubber Soul etc. and of course the film. Hard Days Night. Its very catchy and takes me back to Beatle Mania days when I was as hooked as everyone else.

It is just awesome that Adam has been able to write a song that sounds like what would have been a Beatles huge hit back in the 60s. Not an easy task but he achieved it perfectly. Congrats and RIP.

Maybe not 1960's but likely early 1970's. The Beatles had their most success after 1964, which is when this movie supposedly takes place. The British Invasion had just started in the US in 1964. During one scene when they are being interviewed by Clint Howard, "Jimmy" said his influences were Dion and the Belmonts, which sort of fits the right time frame of many of the Wonders songs as being sometime around the late 1950's to early 1960's.

@@jeffburnham6611 I would say it does have a ‘64 vibe. The Beatles became very popular here in the states in 1964 and immediately inspired scores of imitators, of which the Wonders would’ve just been one. The early 70s sound had a lot more polish and production to it compared to the beat rock sound of the early 60s which this song is inspired by.

Sorry to burst your bubble but… if you have any experience with the early 60’s pop stuff, it’s a pretty generic and formulaic imitation of a lot of songs. Pretty much in the “Buddy Holly Vein”. Here’s an example : kzread.info/dash/bejne/nX2F17uLf7nAZqQ.htmlsi=RRxpRyUE0Vk69-W5

You are correct, it really is formulaic. However, it is pretty good pop fluff. It is a recently written song that is meant to sound like a Sixties song. The songwriter achieved that. The song was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song. It's a nice piece of pop confection.@@jimmy5634

1996: Adam Schlesinger captured the 1964 British Invasion sound perfectly and Tom Hanks got the four band members to learn their instruments, as well as sing the song. Ended up being a hit on its own, 32 years after when it could have happened.

It was genius, how he tapped into about twenty years of oldies nostalgia from the saccharine fifties, through the Beatles, distilled progressions and familiar phrases, but then presented a totally fresh, novel, original song that just plain works. It would certainly have been a hit, in those days. I will be very surprised if any of the Daisy Jones &6 songs make much of an impression, next to this classic, though it began as a simulation.

When I lived in Orange County (California), Old Town Orange was one of my favorite places to go to relax and get grounded. Much of the the movie was filmed in Old Town Orange including Watson's Drug Store on Chapman Ave. At that time (not sure if it's still there) Watson's had a jukebox and one of their selections was .. you guessed it .. That Thing You Do.
