The WNBA Has Never Had Rookies Like This Before

Спорт

The WNBA has a bright future, and everybody thinks it's because of rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, but what nobody is talking about is the rest of the 2024 WNBA Draft class. Which I believe has the potential to be generational and change the WNBA forever. In this video, we breakdown, analyse every WNBA rookie drafted in the first round, and how they fit with their new WNBA teams.
Watch WNBA Games Here: www.playback.tv/dkm
The 2024 WNBA draft class is being celebrated as potentially the greatest in the league's history, drawing comparisons to the legendary NBA draft classes of 1984 and 2003. This extraordinary group of players is expected to elevate the level of talent and visibility in women's basketball, with the potential to transform the sport forever.
Leading this remarkable class are standout stars Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Angel Reese, renowned for her dominant inside game, rebounding strength, and defensive versatility, has already made a significant impact at the collegiate level. Her ability to influence games on both ends of the court is anticipated to immediately enhance any WNBA team’s frontcourt and generate substantial fan interest. She will help the Chicago Sky, especially when teaming up with Kamilla Cardoso.
Caitlin Clark, meanwhile, is celebrated for her scoring prowess, court vision, and long-range shooting. Her dynamic playmaking and ability to score from nearly anywhere on the court make her one of the most exciting prospects in recent years. Clark's flair and competitiveness are expected to transition seamlessly into the professional game, drawing parallels to some of the NBA's most electrifying players. The Indiana Fever can't wait to start their new era building around Caitlin Clark.
Beyond Reese and Clark, the 2024 draft class boasts numerous other elite talents who have excelled in collegiate and international competitions. This depth includes sharpshooters, versatile defenders, and skilled playmakers, all poised to make an immediate impact in the WNBA.
This class is notable not only for its talent but also for its perfect timing. The WNBA is currently experiencing unprecedented growth in viewership, sponsorship, and overall popularity. The introduction of such a talented group of players is expected to further this momentum, attracting new fans and enhancing the league’s global visibility.
The comparisons to the 1984 NBA draft class, which included legends like Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Charles Barkley, and the 2003 NBA draft class, featuring LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony, are well-deserved. Just as those drafts revolutionized the NBA, the 2024 WNBA draft class has the potential to elevate women's basketball to new heights, shaping the sport's future and inspiring the next generation of players and fans.

Caitlin Clark (PG, Iowa) - Indiana Fever: The consensus number one pick, Clark is known for her scoring ability and deep shooting range. She was the driving force behind Iowa's success, and her playmaking and leadership skills are expected to make a significant impact in the WNBA
Cameron Brink (PF, Stanford) - Los Angeles Sparks: Known as "The Unicorn" for her versatility, Brink excels both offensively and defensively. She has a strong presence in the paint and can stretch the floor with her shooting
Kamilla Cardoso (C, South Carolina) - Chicago Sky: A dominant center with excellent rebounding and shot-blocking abilities, Cardoso brings size and strength to the Sky. She was a key player for South Carolina, helping them secure multiple victories
Rickea Jackson (SF, Tennessee) - Los Angeles Sparks: A prolific scorer and versatile forward, Jackson's all-around game includes strong rebounding and defensive skills. She transferred from Mississippi State to Tennessee, where she continued to excel
Jacy Sheldon (SG, Ohio State) - Dallas Wings: Known for her scoring and defensive tenacity, Sheldon was a standout at Ohio State. She can create her own shot and is a reliable perimeter defender
Aaliyah Edwards (PF, UConn) - Washington Mystics: A powerful forward with a strong presence in the post, Edwards helped lead UConn to multiple Final Four appearances. Her physicality and rebounding will be assets to the Mystics
Angel Reese (PF, LSU) - Chicago Sky: Reese is a dynamic forward who led LSU to a national title with her scoring and rebounding prowess. She recorded an NCAA-record 34 double-doubles in her championship season
Alissa Pili (SF, Utah) - Minnesota Lynx: An elite scorer, Pili averaged over 21 points per game and was a key player for Utah. Her ability to score from various spots on the floor makes her a valuable addition to the Lynx

She is a forward who can play the 3, 4, and 5 positions. But is a 4 as per WNBA standards. And she will be fine in the WNBA. Yes, Catlin Collins is better on offense, but Reese is better on defense and rebounding. She can get offense rebounds and put backs. Rebounds are important because there are always missed shots and people take this for granted. It is rebounds and defense for the most part that wins championships. Hopefully, Indiana's other players can paly better defense and rebound the ball. Relying on CC's offense along will not win many games for them!

You don't know what you are talking about! Reese became the only player in the NBA, WNBA, women’s NCAA and men’s NCAA history to pocket at least 30+ points with 15+ rebounds, 4+ assists, and 4+ steals. She did achieve the feat while having a shoot over 80%.. All her team needs to do is feed the ball inside out to both she and Cordoso, that will open shots for the two of them and their teammates. They would be a Two Headed Dragon!

I know one thing, the Sparks need to put Rickea Jackson in the starting lineup. She was the 4th pick in this draft class and they got her coming off the damn bench. She was considered the best all around player along with Brink in the draft. Rickea’s talent is being wasted by the Sparks. They could easily be among the best duos in the league. 🤔

1996 NBA draft class was by far the best to exist in the NBA. And it's not even really close. Allen Iverson, Marcus Camby, Shareef Abdur- Rahim, Stephen Marbury, Ray Allen, Antoine Walker, Kobe Bryant, Peja Stojakovich, Steve Nash, Jermaine O'Neil, Derrick Fisher, Zydrunis Ilgalskus, Lorenzen Wright, Malik Rose.. This was a packed draft class in the nba. David Stem was proud of this one in 96. Weren't they the draft class with the most awards between them?

Yeah, there was unbelievable talent in that draft class and with all the focus on the sport that Kaitlyn Clark brought that new batch of stars are going to have a lot of new fans because of it so that helps them out, but yeah, that is one of the best draft classes I’ve ever seen out of the WNBA

I see an Injury machine with Reece, it's just a matter of time. If she does not start to work on her core and strengthen her ligaments (yoga). Her temper will be returned real quick, when she picks on the wrong person. Watch! she picks on those smaller but will never confront those taller or bigger than her.

Dude why the F*CK am I SO interested in the WNBA now. I literally didn't care about it until these rookies showed up and now I'm like... actually wanting to watch this rivalry happen. I swear to god if the WNBA does not capitalize on this opportunity, I don't know if it will ever happen again.

You’re forgetting that millions didn’t tune into WNBA until Caitlin started her rookie year, sold out arenas, fan base, millions in contracts. Take Caitlin out of the WNBA, the league is back to low viewership. Right or wrong, it’s the fans who will decide their fate 💞

Caitlin Clark and Cameron Brink is the only reason I now watch the wnba. But have say all of this hate at Clark is because theirs "NOT" one individual(s) in the wnba, who's on her level. The jealousy of Clark is why women will never get the respect they whine about. Clark is the Michael Jordan version of the wnba and has already cemented her history in women's basketball and hasn't even finished her season.

Also I do have to say the WNBA has a problem with young talent they seem to give up on their young prospects way too easy and a good example of that is the 2021 wnba draft ( Charli Collier) was the number yet she had no real time to grow 💯
