I agree, I went in expecting a thrilling murder mystery and that is not what happened 😂 but I think that's by design. Every part of the plot was tailored to make us realize something about the characters and the strong social hierarchy that Celehar has to navigate while working as a priest -cum -detective. So I enjoyed my second read through more, where I went in and noticed all the details like how Celehar became more friendly and how his work really took a toll on him as the plot progressed.

I very much agreed with your review. I really enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to reading The Grief of Stones (I had it preordered but am still waiting for it!).

Thank you for providinc the understaning what the book is all about and how much it is close to the Goblin Emperor. 🤩 Also now I found out about one more inspired or spin-off kind of story about Sherlock Holmes 🥰

The timing of this review is great as I should have this delivered tomorrow although, like you, I will reread Goblin Emperor first. Amazingly detailed review of a really interesting book once again Rachel.

I miss the Untheileneise Court! I wanted to enjoy this book but unfortunately, I did not, which is a shame because Goblin Emperor is my favorite book! My favorite parts of The Goblin Emperor were the setting, and of course our main protectionist, so without those things I found it difficult to enjoy such a quiet book that was missing the things I enjoyed most.

There's going to be a sequel! Yay! I wrote in my own review that I would have read more about Celehar going through his everyday life, but I didn't know there was going to be another book. You just made my day!

I would read a whole book just about Celehar drinking different types of tea and buying a new coat (that shopkeeper better find him a nice one with a discount!).

I am also shipping Celehar and Pel-Thenhior! I loved how this showed us more about the world and the people who are not royalty and nobility. Love this book!
