This is definitely a repost from my former world record video, but this is for those who does not know Eclipse Skip. If you are curious about Eclipse Skip, it's a massive skip that saves roughly about 45-48 minutes of cutscene time to solve the Eclipse EP. There are two parts to this skip so I will be dissecting this into two areas: the set-up and the skip. Set-up (5:19 - 6:54): I start by abusing the game's autosave feature, where if the sum of the save file's total panels and EP solves is a factor of 60, a new save file will automatically be created. I used 5 new save files in this run as it is the quickest and there is a consistent way to set-up the skip (thanks to runner gaesenpai for discovering this). Next, I go to the Eclipse Video and pause the video where it shows the sun. Normally, you cannot pause Theater videos as the auto solve if you leave the panel in any means, but if you reload the save, it pauses it. It is important that you open the save-files from the bottom of the list as it can almost guarantees that you get the skip set-up (idk why, but it works). Whenever you go through save files, the pause will also affect the other save files. To simplify, if you paused the video at the sun part of the video, the other save files you open will also show the sun part paused. This works similarly if you pause the video at the eclipse part. However, sometimes if you pause the video at the eclipse part in one save, the next save file you pull up may show the sun part paused, which isn't expected. If that ever happens, you have successfully set-up the glitch. The Skip (40:04): According to darkid, a runner of this game, the glitch happens because the sound entities from the shipwreck noises, EP noises, and jungle puzzle noises would overload, which coincidentally effects the theater videos. Unfortunately, this glitch is highly inconsistent. Since it depends on random sounds around the map to overload the sound entity limit, the skip has a terrible time range on when the skip occurs, as it could happen between 20 minutes to roughly 2 hours. But that's half the battle. Because of its inconsistencies, it is easy to care less about perfecting the first half of the run and crack under pressure in the second half, resulting in time loss from the category's "psychological warfare." If you think that you need more explanation about this, let me know! It is the most broken skip for this game and also the most complicated.

This is amazing to see, but on a certain level I'm sad The Witness is no longer "the game during which you get to speedrun a different one if you want to" :P

I love this game, but I still have yet to beat the Mountain King timed challenge (the slitherlink/triangle puzzles are the ones that usually trip me up)... I didn't realize that the table puzzle would reset if you redo the previous green panel, so thanks for that, it'll come in handy the next time I give it a go... As for speed-running in general, I leave that to the pros like u ;) Hypnotic run!

first time watching a the witness speedrun half way through the vid 1. the persicion is just WILD 2. i am throughly shocked 3. how are the puzzles named?

Some areas have a set order to them, and others are just “it’s pretty much X so we’re calling it that” 😂 I will say that “EP” means environmental puzzle, for a puzzle that is based in the environment, and not on a panel/screen

Amazing run! Just curious, on the challenge timed section, are you just having to figure them out or are there a finite amount of puzzles that you can get? So you can mostly remember?

The Challenge is basically all random, and while one can try to remember all of the possible seeds for challenge, realistically that doesn't happen as it is rather cumbersome to do compared to just solving them through puzzle solving skills.

@@undalevein4749aren’t those little three-sets of impossible puzzles tied to the seed? I wonder if you could set up an app to input that set into it and see the solutions ahead of time.

I have 2 questions: 1) How is the boat going so fast? That's not normal right? 2) What's happening here? (25:37) It looks like you're tracing a straight line up, so I guess a door maybe. But I can't think of anything in that area. Additionally, the routing and skips in the quarry and treehouses were mindblowingly clever and hot. Great run all around.

1) The boat's speed is normal. It is at max speed from what the game allows it to. 2) This snipe opens a door between the endgame tunnels and the final room of desert. You can see the door at 32:08 where I exit desert through the tunnels, which shouldn't be possible for a casual playthrough since the door is closed. This is the only instance of something called a Wall Snipe, which happens when you lower your geometry details graphics (the option appears when first opening up the game).

@@undalevein4749 honestly, at first glance i was like "what, could there be a discarded triangle puzzle there?" then i looked at the time split and it mentioned the desert, so i was confused but when you went to desert and the shortcut door was open i knew exactly what you did and my mind was blown
