I always loved Whiteout because she besides being the purest character and super interesting, she is the first obvious example of a neurodivergent dragon in the series, and as somone who relates very mucht to her, it was cool seeing traits of autism and synesthesia unexpectedly

That Qibli inbred theory is so dumb. Just because the identity of his father is never brought up does NOT mean it’s something dark like his father also being his grandfather. I’ve always been convinced Dune was Qibli’s real father. They have a lot of strong-willed similarities and Dune’s negative outlook seems like something the cold-blooded Cobra would actually be into. Don’t forget, they both lived in the Scorpion Den at the same time for a while and Dune disappeared at around the time when Qibli’s egg would’ve been made.

This is true... i never really thought about it...

I seriously was crossing my fingers at the "Animus magic doesn't drain the soul," hoping for exactly what it was. That was seriously my theory about it, and what I base all of my animus oc's off of. Even some of my fantribes that have animi, have scrolls about how it's really the decisions the dragons' make that makes them mad, and not their soul. So glad I'm not the only one.

I KNOW! Animus magic doesn't just make you insane. It's the possibilities. You can do absolutely anything and just snap! delete the consequences. Who cares if you hurt someone's feelings? You can just erase the sadness with the flick of a tail. You just need to be able to know when you're going too far.

I mean I get it but.. can we mention albatross? He never used his magic for himself.. like ever, accept for *once* as a dragonet to attack his sister(ripping her claws off.) he always used his magic for his queen, and he never even wanted to, he never did it willingly either so..? I know he couldn’t have gotten insane though, and there’s a possibility that this happened because he was just sick of being her little servant, so decided to kill her. But idk..

a oversight in the mudwing rules for their tribe leader being the Bigwings of the royal offspring leads to the mudwing being the only tribe to have a potential king rather than a queen. This will probably get reconned, but it's interesting.

7:20 in legends dragon slayer, wren describes eating a blueberry a bit bigger than her head, so that basically confirms that yeah, fruit is huge. most likely due to high oxygen levels needed for animals as big as dragons lol

This is a great and fun video, can't wait for Part 2 :D And it's really cool to see PPAU mentioned as well! (I'm relieved it's on the TOP of the iceberg and not the scary bottom hahaha) One thing to note though is that I didn't found the group by myself, it was co-founded by myself and Alaskanay (who isn't part of the WoF fandom anymore but still deserves credit for the work, storybuilding and lore she put into the initial couple years!)

Okay, so, I'm like 95% sure that the majority of NSFW fics were made by curious teenagers trying to sort out their feelings and sexuality. Which I think is fine, just give the kids the space to figure themselves out. As for the Whirlpool thing, I'm not entirely sure? I first read these as a teenager who enjoyed learning about weird and messed-up stuff from history. Whirlpool doesn't really come off to me as a groomer as much as he does as a megalomaniac who's surprisingly restrained to the social mores of his culture. Oftentimes in medieval European royalty and nobility, pubescent girls would be married off to men twice or thrice their age, or even elderly, just for the social connections. I never really saw an issue with this being depicted in the book, as it was framed as a bad thing and the dragon world was already shown as having a lot of growing up to do. Regarding Seawing toothpaste, I also have to add that Darkstalker's novel also confirms that the dragons have cheese. *Cheese.* For non-mammals to eat. Dragons are (presumably) reptiles. They do not have mammaries that we mammals have to provide milk to young. How are these dragons eating cheese and not getting indigestion? How did these dragons even discover cheese? Are there dragon herdsmen who herd sheep, goats, cattle, llamas, alpacas, and camels?

There are a lot of foods in this series that seem like they don’t fit in the timeline/area. Coffee is something that’s been mentioned twice in the series, and so is chocolate. And I think the reason why everyone hates Whirlpool for that reason on top of others (at least, why I do), is because it’s not any better that it’s in history, I mean, we wouldn’t want inbreeding ether. Also, look at how split the community is at the whole Glorybringer thing… and then look at the whole Whirlpool thing, and the fact that it is something that one dragon severely dislikes, and the other only does for power. This somehow went from a little comment about WoF foods to a semi-rant about how everybody hates Whirlpool lol. Also, does anyone remember when pomegranates were mentioned that once in Darkstalker? In that one scene where Clearsight is waiting to meet Darkstalker under the tree (oh, great, now I’m just thinking of under the sea). Or that one time Blue smelled like fried bananas?

@@Immys_Art Well the fruits never bothered me, qnd chocolate and coffee also not that much. It's mentioned that RainWings like to cultivate exotic fruits, and in Darkstalker he talks about buying fruit from them, it seemed like they had merchants that sold fruit to the other tribes. Sugar is a little stranger, but it's not that unlikely they grew sugarcane or learned to cook more complicated recipies. Different tribes seem to have different levels of food prep. MudWings and SkyWings seem to just cook their food, it seems IceWings might plate things nicely, but just sliced meat. SeaWings and SandWings seem to have more complex cuisine, and rhe NightWings used to

deeply unfortunate that the show was cancelled like, right after this was posted ;-;

I like how one theory basically said that Darkstalker is the Wings of Fire version of Jake. He is your father, he is my father, he is everyone's father.

it's a easily debunkable theory because it hinges on alabtross being a hybrid, when he's not, he's just weird looking. And even if he was he wasn't one to pass along the Animus gene in his family has he didn't have kids, his sister did, and it's never implied she's a hyrbid, and besides, the royal families are racist AF and look down on cross tribe breeding.

4:25 I once saw a seawing anatomy headcannon. According to it they have two liquids in their bodies. One of them is blood and the other one is bioluminescent and is the reason their scales can glow.

I honestly wonder whether the blue blood mistake was intentional for those who are descendants of Albatross as he's believed to have had Icewing heritage due to him being the first animus seawing. So I wonder if Tui just kinda thought of it late into the series or forgot to mention it in earlier, idk. It would be cool however if it were a sign of being a descendant of Albatross or of Icewing heritage.

@@munkin8144 I was inferring whether an Icewing animus made an enchantment or idk something similar to the enchantment done to tell the eggs from each other and to tell who were royal. Like I know it's most likely a mistake on Tui's part I just like thinking into it more as if it weren't a mistake for the fun what if. That and if many seawings have the gene for blue blood they could possibly have offspring with that trait even though they themselves didn't have it appear.

The only thing you have to worry about is the occasional untagged fanfic, which is thankfully rare since AO3 culture is big on accurate tagging. Think of tags as like the ingredients list on a cereal box or soup can - they're warnings for foods you may or may not like or cannot eat. Also, I will be frank, as a hormonal teenager figuring out my sexuality, those were often fics I'd go to because I was scared of seeing actual.... naughty moving images.

And with the names of their moons, it can be related to the abilities nightwings gain from being under the moon as an egg, and with each moon is another ability, Imperial being in command or empire, Oracle being related to prophesying, and perception being the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses which would be related mind reading. (Me and dumb butt typing comments during the video playing lol, I was going to add this to my first comment but I realized you hearted it lol)

My friend and I decided to rewrite the wings of fire plot and make a few side stories. One thing we changed was animus side affects so instead of them going insane they become horribly disfigured. Like multiple eyes and their horns grow out of control but depending on if you use your spells for good or bad your side affects either look more angelic and a fashion trend or they will make you look like a horrifying cryptid that parents tell their kids to avoid.

If you’re anything like me before reading Darkstalker legends (at the time I had finished the series and was watching YT. The whole series was up to book 13 at the time), I saw a LOT of Darkstalker legends spoilers but couldn’t make sense of pretty much any of them lol.

If you reread the scene where Fathom has his first animus lesson, Albatross mimics his sisters' teasing and it includes making fun of his "tiny teeth, oddly-colored scales, and inability to swim well". His *pale blue-gray* scales at least hint he's an Ice-Sea hybrid leaning more on Sunny and Darkstalker's end of hybridization, where they just have one or two weird things about them and that's it.

@@fallsong1050 There’s also the possibility of dragons' reproductive biology being like cats' where it's possible for two clutchmates to be sired by different fathers. Also, the author is dead. Been dead. Killed them when i first picked up the books as a teenager. Look up "Death of the Author" theory for literary analysis, it's why I don't believe for a second that Peacekeeper will never learn of his past life or that Rainwings can change their iris colors.

It essentially means that we should only judge the text based on the text itself and that anything the author says about their world holds just as much water as a random fan's canon-compliant headcanons. Example with another piece of fiction, Fahrenheit 451. Ask anyone who's read the book what the themes are about and they'll tell you that it's a warning on the dangers of censorship. Ask the author of the book himself and he'll say he intended it as a warning about how TV is going to make Western society worse. If you believe in Word of God (what the author says is just as canon as the text itself), you'll say that Fahrenheit 451 is about the dangers of TV, but if you believe in Death of the Author (what the author says is more like headcanon), you'll say that Fahrenheit 451 is about the dangers of censorship. Applying this to Wings of Fire, in cases where Death of the Author is in full swing are: - Peril or Sky being trans - Rainwings having color-changing eyes - Averagely sized dragons of the same age and different species being more or less the same size save for the larger Mudwings - Albatross and Jerboa not being part Icewing - Literally anything Tui has said that hasn't been outright stated in the books Read up on TV Tropes about Death of the Author and Word of God for some clarification

2:12 my theory is that animus magic doesn't just destroy the soul, it would need to go somewhere, i think that (choices also might be an influence here) a fragment of said animus dragon's soul, *goes into* the object. and when there soul is all out, because the objects have soul fragments, the animus objects end up controlling the dragon and making them go mad.

The annoying thing is that everyone thinks that the Wings Of Fire series has furries in mind when Tui wrote the books. (No hate to any furries with the following sentences) People are thinking that just because you read Wings Of Fire or Warrior Cats for example, you are considered a furry or otherwise a supporter/encourager of the furry community. I find this pretty annoying that they just assume that we are. this is probably because the main characters are animals. This video was great though!!

Actually no, animus coming from the icewing tribe has been debunked. Tui herself said their was no original source, and it implied if not outright stated that icewing breed in the Animus gene into the family, trying to isolate it and limit it to STRICTLY the royal family because they knew how dangerous it was and had many rules in place. fukin tired of people passing this fan thory off like it's canon when it's not, albatross isn't even a hybrid and even if he was it's implied his siblings aren't and he didn't have kids himself! How could he pass the Animus magick along, hmmmmmmmmm????? Tired of the fandom stupidity at this point.

I've just learned about this today so I am confused. As for why I still watched this is beyond me.

Not every dragon is in relation to DarkStalker. The Sea-wings(only royals) got their animus blood from Albatross, not DarkStalker. The Ice-wings somehow already had it or whatever. Only Night-wings/night-wing hybrids that ascends from DarkStalker or Whiteout have animus magic, so no, DarkStalker isn’t related to everyone. But it is something to think about, basically that DarkStalker(if related to like (almost) every dragon) would basically be the dragon Adam or Eve lol

Albatross probably got his magic due to being part icewing, which also explains the unusual features he is described to have in the books. Animus magic most likely originated from the icewings, therefore all animus dragons are likely related

He was told in the books that he was teased by his sisters about his features, and having light, almost white colors is very rare in a tribe with mostly dark blues, green, purples, and even rarely pinks or yellows. I think at the time(if not still present time to book 15) the Ice-wings and the Sea-wings were allies, or to rephrase it better, friend tribes, as they seemed to show the most relation and the least arguing, wars, and hatred in each other(not counting the Sand-wing succession, that’s basically a world war in itself) so I get why Sea-Ice hybrids are most common in the series, hence there being Albatross and Typhoon both being the same hybrids.

@@ThermalnuclearBomb minus the fact he didn't pass along the Animus gene as he never had kids. He's just weird looking, not a hybrid, not to mention royal families in WoF are against cross breeding as a general rule of thumb AND if that's true, the icewings would know, and be VERY not ok with that, and the icewings would have beef with the Seawings, BEFORE the nightwings. Not to mention that would be hot gossip for the royal family when cross tribe breeding is looked down upon.

@@enderwalkgang The thing is Fathom is Albatross’s grandchild mensing he DID in fact have children. Its also that Albatross is mentioned to have a wife and be the one to have passed the animus gene, and his deformities were a but more Icewing hybrid like. Also Icewings and Seawings both have the same procedure for finding animus, so it would seem as if they wouldn’t have that much beef.

The wiki says he's not a hybrid, and he just has pale pigmentation. Literally. If I got take this shit again I'll ask Tui myself.
