The Winch Mode Is A Game Changer | Agri Spray Drones FlyCart 30

Ғылым және технология

The DJI FlyCart 30 offers a winch mode which delivers cargo by a retractable cable that is either manually or automatically controlled. Cargo releases automatically upon touchdown and does not require manual detachment. You can be sure that your cargo will be delivered safely and precisely.
We're excited to see what this delivery drone can do. We're setting up demos and traveling around the country to learn from your use-cases.

You know, ever since drones became a thing when I was a kid, I always thought it would be so cool to be able to pick stuff up and move it remotely with a magical claw that could grab something and let go of it without me manually doing so. Here we are now, with my childhood dream almost fully realized.

Sitting here thinking I came up with a crazy way to use this drone. Firefighting. It would need a weird setup, but could potentially only need the winch. What I'm thinking is a bag attached to the drone's frame, hanging maybe 10 feet down or what ever would be a safe distance. The winch would go down the center of the bag and is basically attached to the bottom of the bag. Then you fill the bag with water or some sort of fire retardant and fly to your destination. When you've reached your goal you retract the winch. This pulls the bottom of the bag and inverts it, forcing the contents out as it does. It may not hold much, but if you combine it was drones using thermal cameras, it's cheaper then helicopters or planes probably and maybe can be utilized much more quickly. It's a quick and dirty plan, but with some engineering skills and knowhow it could probably become extremely viable in dangerous areas that are hard to reach or during situations that might be hazardous for pilots to fly manned aircraft.

Nah. Just take the sprayer system, remove the pumps off the back of the tank and replace them with a solenoid dumb valve. Possibly with some type of funnel or chute to direct the flow.

Yes! We have been meeting with some fire departments to see how the FlyCart could help them. Super excited to see if they choose to use it how it impacts them.

Out of curiosity, what would you think to be a normal payload for your industry?

It really depends on the industry. This isn't aimed at farmers, but more like search and rescue, forestry, and cinematic crews for example.

Having just watched the whole video I wish you had spent a moment or two giving a closer look at the claw portion of the winch. It seems like the claw is open normally but stays closed when put under tension? I'm only guessing though from the context clues of things you did during the video. You probably can't drop a load midair, right? You have to remove the weight from the claw for the claw to open.

This is correct, it needs a load or tension under it to close the hook. You can't release it midair either unless you cut the rope.

nice video, can you talk more about flycart batteries and charging solutions? what kind of generator can you use in the field?

  • @RyanWatsonASD

These batteries are 38k milliamp hours. They are charged with the normal C8000 charger. Normally we suggest a 12k average running watt generator to achieve quick charging when out in the field!

My biggest suggestion for this would be to reach out to a local distributor in your region. DJI limits the drones capabilities and ability to operate in other regions do to other regulations, so that would be your best bet!
