CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Lyle Gorch (Warren Oates) and Tector Gorch (Ben Johnson) ask Pike Bishop (William Holden) for a larger share of the money before realizing they've stolen a copious amount of worthless washers.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
"If they move, kill 'em!" Beginning and ending with two of the bloodiest battles in screen history, Sam Peckinpah's classic revisionist Western ruthlessly takes apart the myths of the West. Released in the late '60s discord over Vietnam, in the wake of the controversial Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and the brutal "spaghetti westerns" of Sergio Leone, The Wild Bunch polarized critics and audiences over its ferocious bloodshed. One side hailed it as a classic appropriately pitched to the violence and nihilism of the times, while the other reviled it as depraved. After a failed payroll robbery, the outlaw Bunch, led by aging Pike Bishop (William Holden) and including Dutch (Ernest Borgnine), Angel (Jaime Sanchez), and Lyle and Tector Gorch (Warren Oates and Ben Johnson), heads for Mexico pursued by the gang of Pike's friend-turned-nemesis Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). Ultimately caught between the corruption of railroad fat cat Harrigan (Albert Dekker) and federale general Mapache (Emilio Fernandez), and without a frontier for escape, the Bunch opts for a final Pyrrhic victory, striding purposefully to confront Mapache and avenge their friend Angel.

What a classic scene. Plenty of humor and keeping the bunch together and focused on the mission. Holden on togetherness and the old man on they. They finished the scene by laughing. OK so we bungled. Let's go on.

"...They? Who the hell is 'They'" is the best line of dialogue in 20th century cinema. And Edmond O'Brien is the only actor who could have delivered it. RIP to all those unique talents.

Saw this movie in the Tolmer cinema near Warren Street London in 1970. It was Londons cheapest cinema. 5/- or so. It impressed us then. For years to this day I can say "let's go" to my brother who watched it with me and he will always reply " why not?". Full of characters coming from great actors. 15 yrs ago I heard the theme tune and it moved me to learn the words and sing Le Golindrina in Spanish.

I have a notion to second that emotion ! I know it baffled a lot of people when first released, but of course it's now considered a classic ! As you put it so well, it was YEARS ahead of its time ! A revisionist Western that Sam Pekinpah had the good sense to cast some of the BEST character actors in the business in !! :-)

Wild Bunch was Housers biggest influence. Pike is Dutch, Dutch is Arthur, the Gourch brothers are Davey & Mac Callander, Angel is Javier and Deke Thorton is John Marston. Freddie is Uncle and his idiotic grandson is Bill.

@@ethanbradley2089 Yup. Both games are variations of the movie. First game you're on Thorton's side, chasing down your old gang. The side not explored in the movie. Second one basically is The Wild Bunch goes east instead of south and Dutch lacks Pike's acceptance of the end of his time.
