I thought this was going to mention the ability for the Wii Remote to store save data. I specifically remember using it for Monster Hunter Tri arena data. I love that silly controller. Using it just felt so good and intuitive and unique. I’ve been disappointed that no switch games (that I know of) have pointer controls for fps games like Metroid Prime 3 on Wii. That setup was so precise. Hope they bring that back for Prime 4
@leonro
Жыл бұрын
Well, there's Prime Remastered now, but even before that there was World of Goo. However, the problem with pointer controls on the Switch is that it's imprecise and will not be consistently calibrated like the Wii's because there's no IR sensor bar. You can find something similar to the Wii's pointer's consistency in VR, because there's cameras all over that can accurately see the controllers' positions. But again, the Switch does not have anything to check the controller position and the sensors of a controller are always a little inaccurate.
@JamesTDG
Жыл бұрын
@@leonro a little inaccurate?! Mate, you could have the Joycon just sitting on the table while playing poly bridge and it would still sense motion!
@macgeek2004
Жыл бұрын
@@leonro I'm sorry, are you currently remembering that experience??? The wiimotes constantly disconnecting, the motion NEVER being smooth, controls that can be interfered with *by turning on a lamp*, and controls that degrade if you have a larger TV. (The sensor bar works much better on smaller TVs.) Like, you might as well be here bragging about how "immersive" the NES Zapper was. Using the gyro was a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE improvement. Just look at Skyward Sword. That game wasn't possible with the IR sensor, and it correspondingly never used it. It was gyro only.
@leonro
Жыл бұрын
@@macgeek2004 I always played with the Wii in the living room, and the remotes worked great with the IR sensor bar. I never had to turn on a lamp near the TV, as we don't have one. The only times it was wonky was when they were too close to the bar, but otherwise the experience was good. The TV there is still the same 48" 3D 1080p LCD, so I don't see why size would have been an issue. That was already quite a large display at the time. I also never used the NES zapper, so I can't comment, but I don't believe there are many who agree with you that gyro is a strict improvement over that solution. It is more practical, definitely, and allows for seeing somewhat precise movement outside of pointing the controller at the sensor bar. Wii Sports Resort was literally a tech demo for what is possible only with gyro. But with no tracking that compares the controller's position to at least one static object around it, like the Wii with the sensor bar, or VR tracking the entire room, you will never be able to pinpoint the controller's position as accurately. Skyward Sword was flawed in that it solely relied on the gyro and did not use the sensor bar to reset the remote's position whenever it was pointed at the screen. You literally cannot play the game without resetting the sword's position every once in a while. The sensor bar allowed for precision that just is not possible for the current Switch to achieve, or for the Wii Motion Plus accessory. Also, there was absolutely no reason to use gyro for aiming something when that action was already so much more accurate with the Wii's old pointer mechanics. You appear to not have understood my point in the first place. It's not thar gyro is better than IR tracking or vice versa, they just have different strengths, and IR is strictly better when it comes to using a pointer.

Our Wii remotes speakers barely work anymore, occasionally cutting in and out with a staticky undertone. Which means if you’re playing Twilight Princess and Midna giggles at you through the controller, it comes out a garbled crackly mess that sounds like a singing birthday card left out in the cold for 6 years I guess it does still add ambiance, just more of the ‘creepy and terrifying’ kind, which luckily still works for that game.

I love that silly controller. Using it just felt so good and intuitive and unique. I’ve been disappointed that no switch games (that I know of) have pointer controls for fps games like Metroid Prime 3 on Wii. That setup was so precise. Hope they bring that back for Prime 4
@leonro
@JamesTDG

@leonro

The Wiimote and the Wii itself were just..incredible. 12 hours of Wii play time almost daily for like a month after we got it as kids…such a fond memory. I can’t think of one thing wrong with the wiimote. The strap issue is basically natural selection and other than that I’ve never ever had one cause a single problem. So fun to play with too and so versatile for what can be done with the motion technology. Like the cool ass grandpa that started the family that the newer gen wants to live like. The wiimote is the precursor to everything motion related that we know today. Besides some kind of physical sensation based feedback, the Wii remote checks every box
Also, Wiimotes have a small memory storage (Used for Mii transfer), and using the Japan-exclusive TV No Tomo Guide channel, it was possible to use the Wiimote as TV remote for certain Japanese TV brands.

My animal crossing editions used to make noise, until I got sick of it and destroyed the two.

HEPPP I FORGOT ABPUT THAT STAGE
Joy Cons: **don't have speakers** Kirby Star Allies: "Bullshit."
I think my favorite use of the wiimote speaker is No More Heroes on the wii version, whenever you get a phone call the remote vibrates and when you answer it the audio from that phone call comes through the wiimote speaker, so you have to hold it to your head like a phone to hear the dialogue
There's one horror game that uses the Wiimote as a cellphone. When it rings you hold it against your ear and hear the call from the Wiimote

No More Heros does the same when Travis would get a call before reaching a boss fight

It‘s also a feature in silent hill shattered memories
something they did with the joy-cons for super mario party that I think is pretty cool is that when it's your turn in a board game, the joy-con will vibrate in a way that it creates a sound, different for each character! I havent seen many people talk about this

I would always second guess myself on where the sound was coming from when it was my turn. That is really cool, thank you!
Brawl Ike’s “Prepare yourself” was something everyone had to experience. 😂 The low quality makes it perfect.

The fact we are three years away from the Wii’s 20th is mind blowing. It feels like 2016 was just yesterday for me, but 2006 was definitely a long time ago.
One of my favorite wii moments was when I was playing warioware smooth moves. It was during the "pick up the phone" microgame. I picked up the phone, held it up to my ear, and heard it say "help me!" I did the hardest double take of my life.

I have this EXACT memory from when I played this game as a kid, lol
Man Nintendo was so damn good at making innovative high quality controllers, switch joycons are such a disappointment and they had a great amount of potential shown by other third party creators who make some truly great joycon like controllers
No more heroes used that well, having you bring the remote to your ear when Travis answers his phone.
Was also your sword swing sounds in Zelda. That and Wii Sports for the first time sold me on this crazy experiment Nintendo did back in 06.
Nice video and I love the wii cuz i remember playing Wii Sports on my Wii, NSMB Wii, TMNT and Mario Kart wii with my childhood friends at his house. It's fun and I remember my wiimote speaker had a buzzing sound in it like it sound it like a fly that got stuck it there. I will day Wiimotes are better than the joycons easu to use and it fits on your hands. While the joycons is small and hard to use cuz it's too small for your hands.

Yeah, the speakers are definitely far from high quality even if they do add a lot to the experience lol
Don’t forget about Smash Brawl. Link yelling and captain falcon screaming is still to this day both hilarious and nostalgic
My favorite was playing Super Smash Bros Brawl and hearing the characters say a cool line or yell out of the remote speaker. Got me so hype as a kid
The "memory card" extra hidden feature was neat when pepole had a game night, so anyone could bring their wiimote, install their Mii on the host wii, and play with their character
used to play just dance on my wii when i was younger, even just seeing that clear A button brings back so much nostalgia
The fun thing the joycon can do is vibrate in a way to actually make sounds, it just rarely gets used. I loved it in Ring Fit
My favorite use of the speaker was the cell phone in Goldeneye.
I like how the calls in No More Heroes are done by the Wiimote Speaker
You reminded me - when it goes "bling" when it's your turn, you really know. I remember during a family game my brother came rushing back in from the kitchen to start his turn, without us even alerting him, because he had his remote with him and it made the noise.
One thing that I never hear people mention is that the Wii remote is probably one of the most comfortable controllers I have ever held, second next to the Xbox One controller. It feels like it melts in my hand every time I hold it, there is no spot where it feels uncomfortable to hold, it’s just feel amazing to hold every time.

Well said.
I love when video games put you on a "phonecall" so you put the remote up to your ear and hea rit
Hearing Falco’s iconic “PIECE OF CAKE” coming out of the controller when you pick him in brawl was always a joy for me as a kid.
The wii remote is severely underrated. I've always wanted a bluetooth controller version so I could use it for pc and switch. The d-pad and horizontal shape make it perfect for 2-D platformers(like cave story)
Brawl used the speaker best, character selection sounds were peak.
my favourite part is hearing super mario characters yelling help me in their bubbles and saying get me outta here 😂
My favorite feature on the Wiimote, and I love how the newer PlayStation controllers have this feature. It's so fucking amazing.
Honestly, having the IR sensors still makes for superior shooting than the Switch's gyro function. Resident Evil 4 on the Wii was so, so good.
Hearing the low quality “Nice Shot” from the WiiMote was A-1
The Wiimote also was able to store your minis when you went to a friend's house. Tech will never be the same again 😂
Having Caliburn say “Well Done” through the Wii Remote after slaying several monsters at once in Sonic and the Black Knight will always be godlike to me.
The commercials for the Wii continue to be one of the best there ever was
hearing pokemon cries through the Wii remote in My Pokemon Ranch is so cute
Ah yes, I remember this game called "calling" on the wii. And I swear. It was the scariest game because of that features. There were game scene were you had to listen to the wii controller "kinda like a cellphone" in order to solve puzzles in order to advance into the game storyline.
Midna's giggle coming through the little speaker will live rent free in my head until the day I die.
Ever tried playing smash bros at night and trying not to wake anyone up only to get Kirby yelling through the remote “HIIIIIII”.
MKWii really uses the speaker well. The sound when you perform a trick, and the sound of making contact with the track after jumping in the air. It really makes the action feel like it's in your hands.
The HD rumble on the switch mimics audio so technically the joy cons do have audio. However, there is another feature of the wiimote that most people don't even know about. You could put your mii on your wiimote to bring them to another friend's wii so the Wiimote was kind of like a jump drive in that way.
i remember being a kid and realizing how game-changing the speaker was. when the battery was low, you’d be unable to hear the speaker or use rumble- and that’s when you’d really notice it
In 2011 E3 when the wii was announced the startup sound was created by the tv and gamepad at the same time so it combined
Another cool feature with the Wii Remote is that each has a small, built in memory space in them. You can save about 8 of your Mii on your Remote, so then you could transfer data over to play as yourself at say, your friends house.
dude that speaker quality while it wasn't the absolute best, it was charming I miss the Wii era
I just loved the sound every time I hit the tennis ball or the rumble of the bowling ball of the hit of the golf ball I just loved it
the little jingle you get when winning in just dance was so cool too
Or the sound of the sword, bow, Midna etc.. in Zelda Twilight Princess!! So good!
Twilight Princess sword fighting and archery, Skyward Sword's fighting and core ability use are what made good use of the speakers
The Wii Remote still has the advantage over Joy Cons in motion controls due to the IR sensor providing accuracy and microrecalibration.
Best use was No More Heroes where the wiimote becomes a cellphone and can hear the call through the speaker. I really do appreciate the Wii. If it had Wii U graphics from the start it would've been the perfect Nintendo system.
This just unlocked a memory of me hearing the crowd cheering at me during Wii bowling 😭♥️
Honestly i love the speaker controllers. I know it's not the most popular or beloved console by any means, but I love how the WiiU music in certain games/apps is split into two parts, a gamepad part and a part that comes put of your tv's speakers
Wii Remote speakers make everything sound like it's drowning
The Delfino Square music is bringing back some MKDS 150CC Grand Prix memories.
The brawl screams that came out of the remote still gives me goosebumps
I remember this one random game on the Wii Shop that had you pick up a phone at certain points, and the voice would come out of the Wiimote super quietly, making you hold it up your ear to hear it, just like, a phone! This feature was amazing back then. Wonder what that game was called. I remember it had some mechanic that had you in dark rooms, and you had to light up certain spots to make them walkable, otherwise you'd straight up be eaten by the shadows or something
I like how when it's your turn to bowl in wii sports not only will the game beep,but the controller does too just in case your far way from the tv.
The wii or wii u was my WHOLE childhood
I remember it can hold miis, it's pretty cool
The only problem is that if your playing without the audio then you will just hear random sounds from the game through your wii remote
Another thing the Wii Remote has over the Joy Con *Lack of joycon drift*
in pikmin 2 that speaker and rumble is essential it makes gameplay 10 times better
It was my childhood from 1-12 it has a special place in my heart.
I remember when before I would do a dance in just dance 4 my Wii would say DANCE!
