THE WIGWAMS TRAIL | Idaho's Hidden Gem Day-Hike

Welcome back to another video!! Join myself, Tessa, and Lolly on this amazing hiking adventure as we explore the breathtaking beauty of the Wigwams Trail in the North Idaho Selkirk Mountains. Located on the east side of the north end of Priest Lake, this hidden gem offers panoramic views that will leave you in awe. Our journey begins with a road hike of 1.25 miles to reach the trailhead, adding an extra element of the climb and several hundred feet of elevation gain. From there, we embarked on an additional 3.75ish mile hike, navigating through lush forests, rocky terrain, and stunning vistas. The road hike was optional and if you don't have a high clearance vehicle you may want to consider starting where we did, which is a high mountain-road junction with a gate that we parked at.
With a total elevation gain of 1,888 feet for us, this trail offers a thrilling challenge for hikers of all levels. Along the way, we encountered a massive drop-off on the side of a cliff, providing both a rush of adrenaline and an opportunity to capture awe-inspiring footage. Finally, we reached the scenic overlook, where we were rewarded with expansive views of Priest Lake and the surrounding Selkirk mountain range. From a distance, one can even spot Chimney Rock and Upper Priest Lake. Join us on this epic hiking journey and immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the Wigwams.

It is a great day when we see a Danny S. video in the KZread feed!!! Oh man, we LOVE the Selkirk’s!!! I could probably spend years just exploring that region alone. Glad to see Tessa and Lolly were able to make the trip!!! What a beautiful trail! We never get tired of those water crossings!!! There are so many creeks, streams, and lakes in N. Idaho!!! Great walk by shot at the 2:43 mark!!! Your invisible camera crew did an outstanding job getting that shot!!! All that emerald green with the stream in the background. Just breathtaking!!! Even the rock paths with all the boulders surrounding you guys look amazing!!! WOW, the shots around the 3:30 mark of Tessa and Lolly looking over the edge of the cliff are insane!!! The shot of you walking along the edge is a “TPP” (Total Pants Pooper). Non experienced hikers may need to pack a diaper before attempting that approach!!! Gorgeous views for sure!!! You are so high up, the rocks below look like pebbles, but they are probably the size of boulders. Those trees looked tiny as well!!! It is amazing how so many trees can grow in that type of environment. Just an amazing backdrop with those mountains behind you!!! Those flat rocks near the top were pretty awesome to look at. That look like nature’s staircase. Wow, it might have been the camera angle, but the ascent up those rocks looked pretty hairy!!! You guys made it look easy!!! That monument at the top looked like it was man made. It appeared to be a square base with a smaller square on top. Any idea what that was? The views from the top are insanely gorgeous!!! I wish I had an extended vocabulary. I must sound like a broken record! We plan on visiting the Priest Lake area when we get out there as well. Those lakes are surrounded by beauty!!! There are mountain ridges, after mountain ridges, they must go on for miles!!! AMAZING!!! With the blue-sky background, they look like waves in the ocean!!! Yikes, where the heck did all those flies come from? You would not think they would do well up there. You guys hit a swarm for sure!!! Hehehehe, the fact you were able to post this video means Tessa didn’t “accidentally” push you off the side of the mountain after your comment 😊. Hehehehehe!!! Love the drone shot!! It was brief, BUT stunning as always!!! The earlier shot of the car was pretty darn cool too! I realize that might sound silly, but the car, surrounded by all those towering pines gives a great perspective of where you were. You do not use the drone a lot, BUT when you do, you ALWAYS make a statement!!! My Mom and I were wondering, is there a noticeable change in temperature from the top to the bottom? If so, is it cooler on the top of the mountain or the bottom? We are thinking it is the bottom, because of all the vegetation and shade. Heck yea! Fist bumps all around!!! Well done!!! I would have been like, fist bump, fist bump, then nap. 😊 We will be adding the Wig-Whams (Tessa’s pronunciation) to our list of hikes!!! Glad you guys made it to meet your family and go to dinner. We hope the pizza was good and the beer was COLD!!! Can’t wait for your next adventure!!! Be well and stay safe!!!

@DannyJSchaefer My son had to come back earlier, so plans changed. Rained non-stop & rushed our way in, which caused my son to get altitude sickness. We turned around after one night at Marms Lake. It was still amazingly beautiful. I may solo hike it before years out

Beautiful view from the top, I believe my niece made that climb a year or so ago . I don't blame you for not taking your car up that last bit of road, that would have been a tough dive in something not meant for off-road, you did the smart thing.
