The Whole Herd Is Together Finally!

Today is the day I finally got Baby Mocha in together with the whole herd. This was an interesting one with a bit of excitement as the herd sorts itself out a bit.

    I clicked on this so fast, all 8 together, exciting stuff! Baby MoMo is certainly the center of attention, well, with all but the three amigas. It's so interesting just watching all of their interactions. Mocha is already so smart. Her instincts are starting to kick in nicely. She's figuring out who's more nurturing, who's wanting to play, and who to just steer clear of. Doesn't it look like Mocha's coat will be very light when she finishes shedding out, maybe even lighter than Annie? I feel like Annie just runs around singing, "I'm a big kid now!" 😂 Annie and Mr. Wilde are testaments to the kind of horse dad you are. They have grown into magnificent, gorgeous, muscular, self-confident animals. No doubt Mocha will be, too. All of your horses are testaments to your abilities and love you give them. I was just speaking of the wildies and where they started from when you got them. It would be SO interesting if you had Annie tested.

    SUCH an interesting video. Taking them as individuals I’d love to comment on all of them but I’ll pick out 3 for now.dear mocha just cruising around there with the whole herd, no big deal people 😂 if she gets told off, while she listens well, she’s going pffft, whatever. 😁 what a great nature. Mr wilde just cracks me up, there’s nothing stylish about him, (no offence) he just motors up the arena full tilt like “stand aside, here I come “ isn’t his coat beautiful with the dapples and the strong look of him is amazing. Lastly Annie, how beautiful is she. I still think she’s getting a muscular quarter horse rump 😊 wow her personality has zoomed, she’s quite fearless and just darling the way she looks out for mocha. She’s becoming a very smart girl. Thanks so much for your time and effort Graeme 👍👍 you must look around at your surroundings and gorgeous herd and think you’re in heaven. I would. 😁

    That was a nice integration of all those lovely characters. Your Luke is such a great horse, very easy-going but not a push-over either. He really likes to have fun with everyone. Mocha did very well and is learning who may not be the most approachable. A gorgeous day with a gorgeous herd, and Graeme with his head on a swivel. '🤗

    Yoke is really a wonder. She's the perfect example of mind over matter. Her small stature doesn't matter when in her mind, she is un-movable. It doesn't matter if it's male or female, big or small. Nobody moves Yoke. Period. Luke's got an adjustment to make. He's used to having his two girls, Annie and Yoke following him around. Now they're preoccupied with Baby Mocha and keep sending him away. It'll all work itself out but I predict Annie will choose Baby Mocha as her primary playmate versus Luke being in that position. And BTW, ANNIE'S MANE IS GOING TO BE STUNNING 😍

    Don't feel bad, I thought it was spelled that way at first too, mainly because I saw some others spelling it that way. And because it sounds like it would start with a "Y." Ithink they will be one happy herd. Mocha will soon be a great little herd member. They are all such neat horses. Annie is getting more gorgeous every day with that long mane. Annie is telling Mocha “I thought WE were going to be bestees. But you’ve been hanging out with Joka more than me-I don’t like that”. You aren’t the only one that can’t stop watching-I can’t get anything accomplished in the house because I can’t take my eyes off them either.

    I wondered about Lena too, along with Roni. I suppose they just prefer each other's company over the rest. Roni does *not* like Mocha much, or so it would seem, if you pay attention to his ears whenever Mocha gets around him - always back. Definitely not into baby horses.😢 Roni, Lena, and Gracie are all of the ones that have been the most unwelcoming (no surprise with Gracie) and coincidentally, also the ones that keep to themselves in a corner. I wouldn't call the trio antisocial though. I really have no idea what to call it, truthfully.

    At 27:38, you can see just how much bigger Annie is, height and weight wise, from Mocha. It's only for a second or two before your camera moves to the left but I found it interesting to see how much Annie has grown and a nice comparison between a one-year-old and a two-year-old Wildie.(I'm going of what you said about how small Annie was when she first arrived.). No one would ever guess that you ever had a fear of horses Graeme, right in the midst of your herd now, camera in hand!

    I don't quite understand all the dynamics, but it's very interesting how Annie and Mr Wilde, who usually are both pretty happy-go-lucky are very serious about this little baby in their midst and what that means. And how they almost have no interest in you either, when they normally come up to say hi to you a lot. This is clearly much more important. Joka is interesting. She does calm things down a few times, even when she isn't going to tell anyone off completely and she's not going to come running down but she is still conveniently there to block a few things from going too rough. Bit of distraction here, a small send there, just enough. (I do feel foor poor Mocha though, it must be quite overwhelming to her. There's a lot going on.)

    I noticed in the last video of your 3 BC Wildies and again, this one, how Mr. Wildie lifts up and out one of his hind legs to move Annie without actually kicking her. He doesn't have one mean bone in his body. Right now, Mocha seems to be drawn more to Joka and Luke for co-grooming. As she sheds, plus becomes more involved with the herd, less the Roni threesome, that may change. I don't see her drawn to Annie, yet. At times, she's comfortable having Annie next to her, yet, at other times she leaves Annie. Mr. Wildie hasn't made any points with Mocha to date. Going to be interesting how things develope over the summer.

  • @MaureenYost
    @MaureenYost Жыл бұрын

    The dynamics of the herd appear to have changed with Luke as the odd man out instead of Mr. Wilde. Annie has decided to be friends with Mr. Wilde as has Joka, surprisingly after he challenged her a while back. Mocha seems to have changed things. Annie acts like a big sister keeping Luke away from her but allowing Mr. Wilde into her space. He seems more confident than last year. Annie's mane is amazing for a 2-year-old. Even Friesians who get manes so long they drag on the ground aren't as long as Annie's at her age. Her mane isn't as fine as a Friesian's so I wonder if super long manes and tails are common in draft horses. Unfortunately, I can't compare because all of the Belgium and Clydesdale drafts I found on KZread had their docks cut off so the dock is only 3 - 4 inches long. Poor horses. All of the horses look beautiful and are a reflection of your excellent care.

    Hopefully Miss Mocha sheds out completely soon! She does look a little uncomfortable. Something I noticed at 5:02 - Annie took a small step forward in the direction of between Mocha and Gracie. I'm wondering if she sensed what Gracie was about to do. Less likely, maybe she contributed to it, but I think if anything, she sensed it coming. 5:12 - I wonder what the head turn and mouthing meant, if anything. A human would say "reassurance", but it could also have nothing to do with anything. Regardless, Gracie will teach Mocha that there are horses who have trauma and may react to things differently. It's a tough but valuable lesson.

    Annie might have unintentionally tipped the balance for Gracie to respond as such. But good catch, I didn't see it, but it makes the response of Gracie less about Mocha. And yes, it looked very much like Annie checked in with Mocha after that.

    I've wondered the same thing. My guess is that, in addition to different gastrointestinal tracts, horses drink a lot of water, while cats (having come from the desert) do not. So it's easier for hair to pause mid-tract. Also, if I go by a lifetime of living with them, the nature of a cat's coat dictates the degree to which hairballs are apt to be a problem.
