The only shady thing about this is people who consider themselves fans of the books that actually think this garbage does the series justice. IT's getting thrashed in the critic reviews, and i'll be surprised if they don't cancel season 2. The woke wheel of time is garbage.

@@jonuhey also a callback to the Ravens prologue and fact that all of Wisdom Barrans female relations we hear of could learn to channel. Since Ravens is right after Nyneave sparked and healed someone for the first time and Barran was clearly checking for signs Nyneave had powers. So it's a more direct yes she could channel and knew it, type thing, which is left unclear but possible in the books. Though obviously taking it a step fruther here.

This is really interesting. Not a scene from the books, but SOOO in character for both Nynaeve and Moiraine.

A great scene! These 2 definitely feel like their characters! My only concern is the dialog. The White Tower turning someone away because they were too poor and peasanty just doesn't work for me. In the books they would literally take anyone who showed a smidgen of power no matter what station of life you had.

They turned away anyone too weak. Specially if as a wilder they already had enough control not to die. But no Aes Sedai would actually tell the girl why she was being turned away so the previous wisdom may have just assumed this was why.

Nynaeve is relaying that wisdom's version of events. It may not have gone down that way from the Aes Sedai perspective. Most likely they determined she was too weak in the power to train. Which is not uncommon.

But they do turn away who they think can't channel "enough" of the One Power. It's literally a huge deal in the series around books 6-9... Maybe Nyna's foster mother was just too weak.

Its such a great scene. Moraine is pretending to be making fun of her so that Nynaeve reflectively retorts back and in doing so reveals things about herself which helps moraine in determining if she is the dragon or not.

***Minor Book Spoiler Warning*** And it just gets more intense when Nynaeve spots Lan, which is especially funny because Lan and Moirraine do not have the sort of relationship Nynaeve initially assumes they have, and Moirrane actually wants Lan to find happiness with the right woman so he doesn't run off to die in the Blight the first chance he gets.

Got me some goosebumps just now. HOLY CRAP. That was fantastic. Not from the books, but she didn't have the best origin story to begin with. Can't. FREAKING. WAIT!!

So, Nynaeve knows 'Listening to the Wind' means channeling the One Power, but the show is using that establishing a class struggle with the The Tower. Interesting changes to justify Nynaeve's attitude towards Aes Sedai.

Erasing concerns about new additions in seconds! This is perfectly in character for both of them AND the White Tower!

Nyanaeve's back story a little fleshed out, different from the books but definitely well thought out....

Zoe nails Nynaeve in this scene. Her character annoys me as much as she does in the books with her tireless chip-on-her-shoulder routine. Only thing missing was a sharp tug on her braid. Also, they nailed how Moiraine knows exactly how to poke and prod to get the information she’s looking for. She knew that saying Nynaeve had only had the braids for a year or two would make her reflexively give her actual age. Fits perfectly with her character and Aes Sedai from the books!

The Two Rivers in the show is just Emond's Field, she's not from Emond's Field, technically neither is Perrin, they lived in outlying farms. But she was adopted by the Wisdom of Emond's Field at the age of 14 when her parents died.

Ok but the Aes Sedai specifically don't care about where you come from. It's made clear that a princess and a farm girl carry the same weight and they don't turn down anyone with the potential for channeling. The only thing that matters after that is how strong they are in the Power so this Wisdom being turned away for looking poor makes no sense.

If she is weak in the power, but wasn't told so. Besides, Elaida and Galina would both act that way to someone they saw as below them in ragged clothes. Just because it is the tower ideal doesn't mean it is followed. Remember that there are so few Aes Sedai because they have been so strict with their selection of novices and encouragement of those with less ability to leave.

Maybe that's how the old wisdom took it, but not the actual reason the old wisdom was turned away. Perhaps the old wisdom could _only_ hear the wind and couldn't do anything else with the one power. She wouldn't be strong enough to warrant the resources to train, if that were the case.

That was probably her own perception of things. She was likely read first and found to be too weak. Listening to the wind is not a very Power intensive talent. It's basically inate. This would also give some insight into Nyneave's own personal insecurities. She was raised by someone who secretly considered herself inadequate.

In the books she'd been healing with the Power for some time, just without knowing it. And she hasn't slowed yet. That's pointed out out in the books too. If they're setting up anything it's her anger and her subsequent block. Anyway, they're not doing the slowing/agelessness in the show. Too expensive and time consuming.

As someone who read all 15 books in this series (including the prequel) in just under a year in 2019/2020, I'm really struggling to get excited about this adaptation for some reason. Maybe because they're still quite fresh in my mind that I'm not looking forward to all the inevitable plot changes that will occur.

Imo with books like wheel of time that are so sprawling and have so many plots, you can’t really look at it so much as a direct adaptation (like LOTR where there was a much more linear plot line) but rather a retelling. That’s just my opinion though imo

Looks great, sounds horrible (on the right ear at least), hope it's just a mixing error on this clip.

Going forward what she does based on her motives, personality and experiences is going to determine whether this is Nynaeve or not, not a slight alteration in backstory that still fits her character

You can definitely see the absurd consideration that Nynaeve is being "Considered" a candidate for Dragon Reborn. It just seems a little silly to me.

Quickly ruling out Nyneave as the Dragon

"ThEy ChAnGeD tHe LoRe" so did Game of Thrones and it became an international phenomenon. Maybe watch the show before judging changes? LotR made changes and majority of people argue for the better. This doesn't change the lore in terms of importance at all and actually gives a simpler explanation without pages of internal monologue as to why Nynaeve distrusts Aes Sedai. If this tiny detail bothers you, then don't watch?

Spoiler . . . . . Yeah, this it's them. Flawless. Moraine calm and confident while Nyneave is uncomfortable and defensive. Also like the change with Mrs. Barran that makes the changes that Egwene introduces in the storyline later on much more in touch with reality and not so power hungry as they seemed to me.

It works for me - it sets up some concepts that are helpful to know going in. Like not every woman that can channel is in the White Tower or even makes the cut (ie: Aiel, Knitting Circle etc.)

Personally, I'm excited for changes. I've read the books a dozen or so times at this point, and honestly the idea that we get to experience new stories in the WoT world makes me unbelievably stoked. The core plot will remain the same. Despite all the smoke and mirrors, TDR is who it is in the books (No spoilers). Just seeing this, the actors get their characters to a T; Moiraine subtly poking for information about age and whether or not Nyneave meets the criteria, always having the ulterior motivation that makes her so compelling. Nynaeve's desire to protect her Emond's Field family and stubborn pride.

Hey, maybe Nynaeve is going to be the Dragon Reborn in the show.

1) Nynaeve may be from another village within Two Rivers in the show, it can very well explain why she is trying so hard to be of use, to belong in Emond’s Field. Even if she is not from Two Rivers the same applies and it’s not crucial to her character where she was born. 2) Maybe the old wisdom had a block that she couldn’t overcome and that’s why she was turned away even as a novice or she failed the accepted test, as a result she lied about the Aes Sedai because she was ashamed. When Nynaeve finds out that White Tower actually accepts women all over the world she’ll realize how prejudiced she has been before. It can very well work as part of character development. We haven’t seen the show, so it’s early to say they “changed the whole lore”

It actually changed none of the lore. You find out more about Nynaeve's past, none of which is contradicted by anything read in the series.

@@GeeksandGrub Nynaeve was raised by her father in the books, who grew tabac, reared sheep and didn’t know how to raise a girl so raised her as a son and taught her all of his skill (tracking through woods, etc.). All of that is in the books.

Maybe they will change father to a father figure in the show and it may be Tam. It will explain Nynaeve and Rand’s little brother-big sister vibes better too. Almost all big fans of the books who got to watch first 3 episodes say all the changes make sense. Let’s see why they decided to change the story this way once the episodes come out.
