    The concept devon is looking for when explaining non failure training is RPE training that powerlifters use. He does 3rm work, which isnt a REAL 3rm, but maybe an RPE 8 or 9 meaning leaving 2 to 1 reps in the tank. So this way he gets to build strength while not grinding, which allows him to train again in a short amount of time (training to failure takes longer to recover from).

    Is what your describing a bit like the "grease the groove" technique. I think I heard about it from reading Pavel Tsatouline(may have butchered his name here). I am really into climbing, and I used to go and do an hour or more of different chin/pull up variations at the gym. Then I heard about this technique. Essentially I set up a pull up bar at home, and throughout the day whenever I would walk by said bar I would do 10 pull ups, which for me was not to hard, and didn't exert me maximally at all. Over the course of the day I might walk by that bar 9 or 10 times, and each time I do the same thing, but never reaching failure. The amount of time between pulls was significant, and so I was rested every time. Anyway, it worked incredibly. My climbing strength and endurance skyrocketed. Would this method of exercises be the same concept devon is using, and that you describe power lifters using?

  • @douglaswalston3137

    @douglaswalston3137

    It still all starts with rising, cup, pronating and supination. If you don’t have those adding general strength like back, shoulder, peck, whatever aren’t gonna matter because if you understand physics and how you grip up. You understand what Devin has said before it’s about connecting as a unit to your arm and hand. From your hand to your feet. He’s just giving us really part in my opinion. I don’t believe it’s the whole no matter what, because he’s preached it’s how tight you can get. He knows that means strength in everywhere that connects from hand to feet. Just like a boxer to punch hard. It comes from feet to hips to back to shoulder to arm through into the hand. Same concept but in reverse like a reverse punch. It’s a pull of a punch. Get it? Soon I’m starting content on this exact sweet science that’s much more in depth. No disrespect. This isn’t my opinion but I’m about to find out if I’m right. And by all accounts I believe I can’t be wrong. I’ve listened to hours and hours of Devin talking other guys arm wrestling watched all the videos. And now I’ll take my opinions and practice them to prove to myself that I’m right. Again no disrespect.

    I have to say, improving overall health absolutely has to only be good good for ones arm wrestling ability. Oleg isn't the best because he has big compound lift numbers.. however, imagine how he'd improve if he did increase his strength and muscle mass in the larger groups. Of course this simultaneously increases body weight, which is a scary prospect for combat athletes who weigh in and want to face the lightest competition possible. I say get bigger legs, get heavier, face heavier opponents.

    Hey Devon....I met you at Pittsburgh WAL 501, had driven down from Kitchener ON, and you mentioned to message you about Crazy George. I have no means other than email or Linkedin for you to get a hold of me. How can we link up?

    I still don't understand why he does not increase the range of motion just slightly. There is barely enough time under stress for those muscles with those small lifts. I know he says something about "I wanna be strong up here" But man....i think he would benefit from increased range of motion atleast some of the sets.

    Any clubs in Arizona? I can’t seem to find anywhere to train. I’m doing what Devon is doing in my garage but I’d love to train with other people. Nobody I know armwrestles. Any help would be great!

    Ryan, do u think Devon would benefit from on top of his special way of training, going to the gym and getting on a nutrition plan and doing some strength/bodybuilding training to increase his size and strength? couldn't hurt right???

    Devon, please try once here while you are still in your prime to get stronger in the gym with Jon Call (Jujimufu) in your tri's and pec's. Juji Iam totally 100% positive would make a mini series in getting you STRONG in those areas. He would be honored and stoked to do this iam sure. You absolutely will be a stronger arm wrestler afterward even though you dont think. I say this bc I want you to beat Denis. What is side pressure? CHEST. What defeats a kings move? A flop press, requiring triceps.

    Side pressure is not just chest, it's adduction power, which is a combination of rotator cuff strength for adduction of the humerus, and the baseball pitching tendons of the elbow, surgery on that area is often called a 'Tommy-John. The elbow has to be up to par with the chest and rotator cuff, like steel cables, and John Brzenk has that strength in spades. Travis Bagent also has that in spades as well, and he got hurt there - couldn't press his palm against his stomach at all - that's an adductor tear on the inside of the rotator cuff, felt up under the pec and armpit. It hurts in the most vulnerable way, and makes you feel like a real weakling - you cannot arm wrestle with this injury! I don't presume to know more about arm wrestling than Devon, but I do know about specific injuries, and how to build up certain tendons to prevent them. Devon is on the right track for easy strength gaining, 3 rep sets, spaced wide apart for faster recovery ie; faster healing of smaller microtears leads to faster strength gains with less downtime, cycles and short vs long periodization, he knows his stuff, including what the Europeans know. I'd like to know his diet, for bone strength, with respect to the radial fracture of the humerus risk that comes with some of that corkscrewing he does with the hand cranked behind his elbow before starting a press move. Is there boron added to your food Devon? Your bones have got to have crazy density to withstand that.
