He does get back with Bella and they break up again which is what After Hours is about.

This was about his short lived relationship with Selena Gomez, hense why it's only 6 tracks. I feel he just needed to get things off his chest with this little project. However "Wasted Times" is about Bella, because he was with her long before Selena came around, he's reminiscing on their relationship and how she's really the one he truly loved all along. Selena broke his heart and got back with Bieber.. so you hear him put a lot of blame on her throughout these songs .. he did still love Selena and was serious about them, however I think she didn't really know what she was looking for and kinda played with his emotions.. bc she got with him after splitting with Bieber and went back to him afterwards, don't think she ever moved on

Hey dude, I'm super pumped to watch your reaction and to hear your thoughts on this record, but I wanted to recommend that when you eventually listen to After hours that you listen to the three bonus tracks "Nothing Compares" "Missed you" and "Final Lullaby" along with the album. I posted this on your starboy reaction but I wanted to make sure you saw it because I feel as though those tracks are super important for that album, especially since I consider them to be the true ending. Abel was with Bella in the Beauty Behind the Madness days (they met making the In The Night music video -please watch). They broke up when Starboy came out and he started dating Selena Gomez. That ended a little under a year later and she immediately ran back to Justin Beiber (who She had a famous “toxic” on again/off again relationship). Their relationship was very whirlwind and public. IMO Call Out My Name, Privilege and Never There are about Selena. Wasted Times and Hurt You are about Bella. The Selena references are “cutting a piece of himself for her life” (Selena’s kidney transplant), being a pit stop (Selena went from Justin Beiber to Abel and then back to Justin Beiber), you wanted something toxic reference to her relationship with Beiber. The Bella references were, “you’ve been with me from the start” and “you are equestrian so ride me like a” Bella rides and has horses. Not too long after this EP came out Abel and Bella reunited and spent another year in a relationship together. ......and then After Hours, the next Album

This is one of my favourite The Weeknd projects, the sadness and dark production pleases my inner goth so much. I absolutely love his work with gesaffelstein, he has another song with him called ‘lost in the fire’ , it probably isn’t the best example of The Weeknd’s songwriting, I don’t mean that to sound like a criticism, what I mean is they’re probably not his deepest lyrics but his voice is gorgeous and gesaffelstein’s sound is such a vibe.

I was never there is actually my all time fav song by Abel .. this ep is just great. and btw in privilege he is also referering to depression when talking about the "blues" and he is talking about oxycodon (the 2 red pills) or drugs in generell to "cure" his depression. Great Reaction keep going

Hurt You is definitely one of my favorite songs by The Weeknd, and this EP sounds so great. You should check more stuff from Gesaffelstein, like "Blast off" feat. Pharrell and "Lost in the fire" feat. (again) The Weeknd. Both have also great music videos.

even though this EP is so short I have it in my top3 favorite theweeknd projects because its so unique and really stands out compared to his other projects. also the title is so fitting. his vocals and the productions really creates a melancholy atmosphere. i hope you look into the In The Night music video starring Bella Hadid

The two red pills to take the blues away I’m pretty sure references to OxyContin (the supposed O in XO) as they’re usually in the form of red pills and if someone has the blues it means they’re sad or depressed, and since OxyContin is a painkiller he plays on the two opposites of colour and to take away the pain he’s feeling 👍
